That's a pretty darn good description of AOL as well. And in the end AOL
died because the web was more interesting.

If the web at large wants to "beat" facebook, then it is about time that
webapps in general moved beyond the crud app stage and learned from
facebook's laser focus on social interaction cues.

Email is simple enough that I can teach engineers how to debug email systems
by talking smtp and imap directly to servers in about five minutes.
Debugging OT via XMPP isn't something I can teach a room of engineers in a
day. Maybe a week...
