I watched the clip of "Doug's Tune" again and I think you are right-it
DOES look like Briscoe is trying not to laugh. I have seen that episode a
zillion times and never noticed that before. Also, whilst we're on the subject
of "Doug's Tune".....I recently saw the episode "The Darlings Are Coming" and
when the whole family was in the hotel room rehearsing for Charlene's wedding,
Briscoe suggested that they play "Slimy River Bottom". And lo and behold, they
started to play "Doug's Tune". I guess what I'm wondering is, which one is the
real name of the song? Does anyone know the answer to this one? Thanks and

I recently called Jackie Joseph who portrayed "Sweet Romeena" Ancrum, Ernest
T.'s girlfriend, in "My Fair Ernest T." episode. She mentioned at Neal Brower's
lecture at Mayberry Days 2007 that she did not know Mr. Schwump's name,
although she was standing next to him on Mrs. Wiley's porch. I asked Sweet
Romeena if she remembered ever even talking to Mr. Schwump or remember anyone
else talking to him on the set. She replied that there was a so-called "caste"
system with actors back then. Regular actors with speaking parts did not talk
to "extras", like Mr. Schwump. She does not remember ever talking to him or
ever saw anyone else talk to him since she had a speaking part and he was an
extra.
Extras and regular actors even had separate places in the studio cafeteria to
eat.
Every known living TAGS actor, cast and crew have been asked at one time or
another about Mr. Schwump's name. No one knows. But that shouldn't stop us from
striving to find out.

When my mother had her stroke back in the early 90s, my husband and sons
and I moved in with her to take care of her. Solitaire was her favorite
