I have stood by and said nothing but now is the time for all good men to come
to the aid of their neighbor. I, too, watched that episode recently and I've
just had it. People who edit things for time or content usually do a really
good job, but the BOOB (there I said it and I'm not taking it back) who edited
the Dogs, Dogs, Dogs episode has no comedic sense. The only reason Barney
brings giraffes into the conversation is to assure Opie the dogs are too short
to be hit by lightning. Then he goes on absent-mindedly talking and talking and
trying to reassure himself that the dogs will be all right. He completely loses
track of what he's saying and it morphs from dogs are low to the ground and
they look out for one another, into Giraffes are tall and don't look out for
one another, boy Giraffes are selfish, always going around lookin' out for
number one, getting hit by lightning....How could anyone not know that speech
is the funniest part of the show?
I hate to say it but they could have left out more of the feeding the little
dog or Otis' bit if it would save the Giraffes Are Selfish speech in its
entirety. I think the whole speech is genius, it's just pure genius.

I realize I said some negative things, however they are not aimed at vilifying
anyone on the show. I am only trying to defend Mayberry from interlopers!
