On the subject of debates: How about the great Taylor / Fife debate when Barney ran for Sheriff. Barney had Andy pinned to the mat with 76 documented cases of malfeasance in office, but Andy recovered by appealing to the human and common sense mind of the voters. Ole Barn came prepared but Andy had a quick "on your feet" response. Quit divergent skills, but both effective..... You remember, the only reason this debate wasn't on TV was because they didn't have a TV station..... Also, what about Howard Sprague? Was he prepared for the debate with Aunt Bee or what? Aunt Bee had wonderful ideas but, unfortunately, Howard "bowled" her over with concrete cost estimates and financial figures. Too bad - I think Aunt Bee would have been a good Council member.
