I wasn't expecting the ending and enjoyed the change of pace. Note to Allan- the new digest is just fine. What is important is that we as a community keep the digest lively and keep posting when we feel the itch. I haven't noticed that much of a change, but think we can just go with the new digest and be thankful that Allan's kind enough to do it in the first place. Stephanie 'It's me! It's me! (I'm typing impaired.) I appreciate all of the hard work that goes into delivering it to us on a daily basis. With today's volume I couldn't tell any difference from the old format, it looks great. I enjoy all of the TAGS knowledge shared here no matter what format. THANKS for all you do Allen. And I always find myself wondering what those wooden valance-type things are that run along the bottom of each window. If I had to guess, I would say that they are to keep the sunlight from bleeding through the blinds when in the closed position, and hitting the floor, where the sunlight might fade carpet or tile. It's a nagging curiosity that's finally gotten the better of me. Anyone in the know? Hey Paul, I went over to WBMUTBB on Thursdayt last and did a little shopping at Weaver's myself. I ended up getting 3 copies of the Don Knotts book ( one for my sister and one for Rev. Jim, my best Ange buddy) a couple calendars, all the new coffee cups and bumper stickers, and the three new wall hangings and the 6 foot life size Barney poster. Ok, two of the Barney poster. I was supposed to be Christmas shopping, but most of these gifts seem to be for me, hmmm. =20 Need I say that if Barney patted me down as I left I would have clanked a bit. The big box showed up yesterday - Jim put in some extra promo stuff from TV Land, including a nice BW phot of Goober. He's nice, real nice. Jeff Krentz Jack Egbert was no prize, you know! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 20:29:54 -0500 From: "April Gailey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Barney's Bio and Allan I just want to say that I have to agree with Paul Gikes about the book "Barney Fife and Other Characters I have Known" by Don Knotts is a great read. I got mine the other day and I couldn't lay it down until I was finished reading it. And to you Allan.. I don't care how I get the digest, as long as I get it. Whatever makes it easier on you.. You are a prince of a fellow for all that you do for us, and I would like to personally thank you for that, and I would also like to thank Jan for letting you spend all the time you do for us. You don't know how much it means to me..Thanks again.. I think she stated this better than anyone has. Way to go, Karen. Thatta girl, Jan. It's great that you stood up and defended your man. You have a great one. Thanks for "allowing" him to do the digest all these years. Like the Southernisms, I guess we all have just about run this subject in the ground, as well. And, I started not to write. However, the more I thought about it, the more I felt compelled to write. I am shocked that some people have been so insensitive toward Allan. Allan does this page out of his love for the show and his generosity to others that love it as well. It is NOT his job. He is NOT being paid. If he decided tomorrow to no longer do the digest, we couldn't complain. So, let's not grumble about his decisions concerning the digest, a volunteer project for YOU the citizens of Mayberry. Hope I wasn't too harsh. This may get edited. Just wanted to make people stop and think about what they were doing to Allan. Crystal P.S. I think we all (including myself) need to remember the rules of this digest! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 08:45:15 -0500 From: "Dan Goodwin/Jobscope" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Allan the Giraffe Oh, sure, I run off to California for a week and when I come back, the Bulletin Board is like some sort of electronal marvel. And the reason (if you wanna call it that) is that Allan wants some time with his family!!! Well, what about us, buddy? We don't count? Next thing, you'll be wanting time off for sleeping or eating or gettin' a corner room at the Y. You're just like them giraffes, you know that? dan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 09:03:21 -0500 From: "Paul Gilkes" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Ange for Andy In yesterday's digest, Keith Oliver mentioned about Paul Mulik's supposition that "Ange" was a contraction of Andrew Jackson (Taylor) for Andy Griffith's character as Mayberry's sheriff. In Don Knotts' recently released biography, Don Knotts notes that he was the one that began calling Andy "Ange" during rehearsals and carried it over to the diaglogue in the show. Don Knotts says he came up with it after Andy Griffith found out Don's first name is actually Jesse and his middle name is Donald. Don Knotts said from that day forward Andy Griffith called Don Knotts "Jess" and continues to do so until this day. Also, I should say that I haven't had THAT many complaints about the new Digest....it's leveled out now. I do hate to see us loosing members because of the move but I believe that might be related to the fact that I'm not doing the Digest manually and folks don't feel "obligated" to stay with us. In other words, since I'm not going to have to work quite as hard...it may be easier for them to say, "I think I'll unsubscribe" and that's fine. I wouldn't want folks to stay in town and not be enjoying every minute the way I do. You folks are the best Mayberry has to offer and I thank you all for the support. I do believe that enoughs been said in defense of me and we can move on from that now, if y'all don't mind. Any further encouragement can be sent directly to me at : [EMAIL PROTECTED] and it is welcome.Problems with the Digest can also be sent to me directly. I think the Digest is working about like it did before the change and I can already see that it's going to free up a good bit of time for me each evening. Maybe now I'll actually have time to get the pictures from the Squad Car Rendezvous in 1998 online. :-) Allan ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V1 #10 **************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ **************************************************
