When we heard on Thursday he was going to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, there was no question: ROAD TRIP!!!! I joined up with WBMUTBB members Phil Bowling and Bart Boatwright, and we got tickets for both shows so we wouldn't miss a thing. When we got there, it was kind of hard to absorb it all. There he was ... OUR ANDY ... there, with his guitar ... and Earl Scruggs .. singing and talking before us!! WOW! Jim Clark did a excellentjob of capturing what happened on stage. I wish I could do half as well explaining how incredibly cool it was to see Andy singing in person. That was something I never expected to witness in my lifetime. And I know it was his first time with Andy performing live music like that .. and he did great. :) So .. if you EVER get the chance .. do like us. Drive for hours. (Talk about "Happy Motoring" .. especially on the ride home!) Go two days with very little sleep. Pay to see every show (because even though Andy missed the second show, we got a great little treat with Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs and Vince Gill, which was worth the price of admission). :) Andy is worth it! Still floating ..... They are pretty decent quality. If anyone is interested (or specifically Alan for the site), please drop me a note. Maybe Opie's name came from this man? Or maybe it was his mother's maiden name? Just a thought. Now, I'll remove the bucket and get back to basics. ws ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 07:31:12 -0600 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: scouts >>>From: Randy Everette <[EMAIL PROTECTED] 1) What troop number is Opie in? (this is the easiest) 2) What rank patch is Opie wearing? (fairly hard, you need to know how the old-style Scout rank patches looked to get this one.) 3) What uniform patch is "missing" from his uniform? (I challenge Paul Mulik to answer this one! >>> 1. 44 2. I'm going to have to guess on this one: Tenderfoot? I figure a boy that can't keep track of his equipment can't have achieved a very high rank. 3. I have been buying Mayberry books for years to see this. I had no idea it existed. I can even see the telephone poles along the perimeter road where the squad car raised so much dust speeding after various and sundry criminals. But what I can't spot is Wally's Filling Station. Anybody with better eyes than me find it? dan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 09:33:18 -0500 From: "Dan Goodwin/Jobscope" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: All Souls Church I know we've debated before what denomination the church was, and I can't add much to that other than to eliminate them being Southern Baptist. As a keen observer around my church for the past 50+ years, I don't believe Reverend Tucker was a graduate of a Southern Baptist seminary because 1) we never saw 'em hold anybody under till they bubbled, 2) we never saw 'em take up the collection and 3) we never saw 'em have a covered dish supper. Obviously ain't Baptists. dan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 09:50:18 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: poovey's groovys & WWTBAMref sorry this is a litte late, I sent last Firday with wrong address more challenging rhyme times The guy who went to DEE-troit's Bowling Establishment Socialite's (How do you do) Yellow happy sign Quiet Sam's game piece Mr' Plummers fresh baked Opie's friend who walks in the trees' television Hurry man's lollipop Grocery Owner's soccer defender Clarence's (cowboys lineage) belch Guitar player's frantic episode Bracey's orange container Howard's girlfriend's young female horse Dry Cleaners' Dental String Pyle's (shortened) tire inner parts Operator's and Mrs. Edwards' eye makeup Gentelman Caldwell's plot Young Taylors favorite dwarf collection Mrs. Watson's tough decision Barber's Star Wars character Mr' Clark's point at which he must stop Talent show Tim's notebook Sam's skeleton Fat Mayor's two-wheeler Ellie's prowling follower Mayors Roy's borrowed car Gas station owner's cable car Store owner's buck-toothed pet Mr'. The front cover reads, "Christmas shopping gotcha in Knotts?" and inside there are several photos of Don Knotts dressed in a Santa suit (I reckon I could tell Opie Santy Claus has been on a diet.) Don has performed at this theatre several times, starring in "Harvey," "You Can't Take it With You," and most recently, "On Golden Pond." I've been to all of them, and he's always fantastic. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 10:01:48 -0600 From: Gloria Bruce <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: connection I was just reading my Hallmark Dream Book for this year and on page 43 was an artist for the company named Nina Aube. I wonder if one of them is the TAGS theme. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 18:02:07 -0500 From: Randy Everette <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Ange & Barn In The Military - Contradiction I knew it was time for Ange's and Barn's WWII military service to come up again. This is a classic case of TAGS contradictions. In some episodes both Ange and Barn mention service of one kind or another in WWII. This is a contradiction regardless of whether you accept them having graduated from Mayberry Union High in either 1945 or 1948 (another contradiction in the show). WWII was over well before 1948 and the war in Europe was over on 6 May 1945 (Sep 2, 1945 in the Pacific), so either way neither Ange or Barn could have fought in the war in Europe. There is no way Barn could have been "whipping the dreaded Hun" as the school year would have ended after the war in Europe. It is highly unlikely they could have even fought the Japanese as for them to graduate in '45, get trained, and sent to combat in the Pacific by late July '45 (when most of the combat was over) is virtually impossible--not to mention that they never mention having been in the Pacific. The episode "The Return Of Barney Fife", to mention just one, clearly has a banner "Welcome Class of '48" at the class reunion. BTW, in real life Andy Griffith graduated high school in 1944 and never served in the military. KEITH ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 19:49:58 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Happy Anniversary to the WBMUTBB Chapter!! Hey folks, This month marks the 8th Anniversary of the establishment of the "Who's Been Messin' Up the Bulletin Board?" Chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC)!!! Back in the fall of 1990 I joined Prodigy computer service which was later known as Prodigy Classic and is now no more. Prodigy had what they called "Bulletin Boards" and on those you could create a "Subject" and have other folks write back to you...I guess "Miss Crump's Blackboard" would be the closest thing to it that we have now. Anyway, I started a "Subject" called "Andy Griffith Show" and I got two replies back pretty quick. The first was from Bob Bravetti and the second was from Pam Rodda. We started talking and more folks started joining us and over time we grew to have about 50 folks talking on a regular basis about "our hometown." As the anniversary of that first post to "Andy Griffith Show" drew near we decided to make our little group into the first "internet" chapter of TAGSRWC. We began voting and, as you might guess, "Who's Been Messin' Up the Bulletin Board" was chosen as our chapters name. I sent in our request to become an OFFICIAL chapter of TAGSRWC and in November 29, 1991 Jim Clark placed the Official verification in the form of our chapter charter. I left Prodigy and for about 6 months I was out of touch. Then I saw in THE BULLET a note from Kevin Johnson and Jack Fellenzer requesting that folks email them to talk about TAGS. I emailed them right away because I missed the fun and fellowship I had with fellow TAGS fans and the WBMUTBB Chapter folks. That note in THE BULLET resulted in the WBMUTBB Chapter being expanded from just being on Prodigy to being on the whole internet and by August 1, 1994 the internet version of WBMUTBB had 25 members. Kevin Johnson kept up with the member list for right around 6 months then, beginning with the "New Member Update" of December 21, 1994, the responsibility was given back to me. We had 50 members on that update and we now have over 1,300. I don't claim to be the reason for those numbers...no...not at all. The reason is because of the friendships and the fun we've shared with one another over the years. Those friends and the good natured fun are really what Mayberry is all about. Here's to 8 GREAT years of fun in "our little corner of Mayberry" and I'm looking forward to many more! I would like to mention several of our Charter Members that are STILL here and an active part of the WBMUTBB Chapter: Bob Bravetti Joe Burton Jack Fellenzer Allan Newsome Pam Rodda Kathy Jo Stahl If you were with us at the beginning and I didn't list you, PLEASE email me and let me know. Of those that were with us back in December 1994 there are MANY still with us. I would list 'em but there really are a LOT. I want to thank you all for sticking with us and I hope you will ALL continue to enjoy "our little corner of Mayberry" no matter whether you've been with us for 8 years or 8 days!
