I was able to get some information on the Jim Nabors Show in Athens, Ga.
that I wanted to pass along to everyone as promised. He will be
appearing on January 27 at the Classic Center. The tickets are not
being handled by the Classic Center box office, but rather by Good News
Travel. This is something that they have put together primarily for
their tour groups, but they are also making some tickets available to
the general public. The tickets are $49 each and include a luncheon
that will begin at around 11 a.m. The show is expected to begin around 1
p.m. Mr. Nabors is not expected to attend the luncheon. If you need
transportation to Athens then the tickets are $69 each. I am not sure
where they would be transporting you from. For more information or to
get tickets call Good News at 1(800)288-5575.

My daughter Sara ("get me my house") has been in a tizzy getting ready for
play tryouts at her highschool. You'd think it was for something big, like
Lady Mayberry or something. Two days before her scheduled singing audition,
she found out she'd have to do her number "acappella." As she told me this,
she even sang it, "acappella, acappella, duh duh duh duh duh duh, well, I
don't know the rest of the words ..."
The next day, I got an email from our older daughter, who is in Sweden, who
wrote "you can be proud of Sara, Mom. She emailed me about the acappella
tryout, and included the Barney reference as well. You've raised us right!"
Just proves what I've been telling them all along -- there's a TAGS quote for
every occasion.
My kids are "cooler than the center seed of a cucumber."

I echo members who wish Happy birthday to Allan and thank him for the work
he does to bring us this info on our favorite show, even putting up with
some members who are a tad feistier than they need be.

And thanks to the author of the new episodes. They are wonderfully well
done. Perhaps someday, with the advances in television, some new episodes
can be created using the original actors and scenes.
There's a lot those electronal marvels out there.

My family and I sat down to supper a little while ago and the TV was on
in the other room. The kids had on the station that is showing all the
christmas programs and on at this paticular time was Frosty The Snowman. Not
the original but another story line I believe. They began to sing "Walking In
A Winter Wonderland" and I said,"boy, that sounds just like Andy Griffith
singing that song!" So I went to check it out and sure enough there was Andy
Griffith in cartoon character narrating the story and singing Christmas
carrols. He did a great job! Andy and Mayberry are everywhere!

I have always liked the scene where Andy decides to bring Christmas to the
jailhouse so the Scobeys can participate in the yuletide proceedings since
they werent able to pay their rent. My favorite part is when Ben Weaver is
peeking through the jail window and Barney walks in dressed as Santa and says
HO HO HO! The look on Bens face is funny!

On another topic: My wife, daughter and I went to the University of
Tennessee Book Store a few years ago for a book signing. George Lindsey was
there signing his book and there was quite a long line. We got our books and
had them signed and got our picture taken with him while He let our daughter
where his famous hat from the show! It was great! The book was 'Goober, In A
Nutshell'. I asked him to sign my books with Goober says hey! and he pointed
out "you know I never said that on the show". He was real nice and I will
never forget while we were way back in line ,a college student came walking
through and somebody he knew was in line and he asked "what is going on"? The
friend told him who was at the head of the long line and he just laughed
sarcastic like and said "Goober! Goober! Your waiting in this long line so
Goober can sign your book! I dont get it! He just walked off laughing at his
friend. He turned and said "I guess it has to do with where you grew up or
something" shaking his head in disbelief.
I told my wife "Its a shame some people just arent cultured enough to
recognize great actors and great programs"! Troy

Just a basic observation - I am really looking forward to TAGS coming to
TV Land, as I'm sure that all of you are. It seems like when TBS and WGN
stopped showing TAGS that this group lost some of it's cohesiveness. But,
with most everyone being able to see the same episode at the same time it
should spark some lively discussions and give everyone one more thing in
common.I hope no one takes this negatively as it wasn't intended to be.
Thanks Alan for all you do and by the way - How old are you anyway???

Did you notice that the man who played Mr.Brady of the statepolice also
played Mr.Omalley in the escaped convicts episode?

Hello Gang! We were wondering this: How much do you suppose Andy and
Barney were paid in their positions as Sheriff and Deputy? I know that
some of you members are in law enforcement (thank you for that) and have
been for a while -- Got any idea how much a small town Sheriff was
making in the south in the 1960s?

Welcome to all the new members! Nice to have you here. Happy Holidays
all!
