Allan,
Holy cow Andy! I just looked at the squad car replica page. It's great!!!
I have a 1962 Galaxie and am restoring it. It sure takes a lot of work and
you have some good information there. Anyone interested in restoring a squad
car will sure appreciate your work on this page. thanks.
James
(NOTE FROM ALLAN: Thanks James. I'm glad we could be of help. There's all
kinds of good information on the TAGSRWC site if folks take a few days to
check it all out. ha ha...)

Got my January issue of Biography magazine today. There is a real good
article on Andy Griffith in it with good pictures. The schedule for the
Biography program on A&E lists Don Knotts on January 4 and Andy
Griffith on January 5. Another favorite of mine, Tim Conway's biography
will be on January 6. My birthday is January 7, they will be showing
Carol Burnett, always loved her show too. Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year to all you WBMUTBB members. Suzanne Burgess

Subject: Phone question and Hidden Tributes answer
For the question about the phone...Why have a place for a dial when
there is no dial?
Just a guess from a long time phone company employeee..
Mass production.
I know that equipment suppliers try to make things as standard as
possible. I can imagine that they mass produced that style body, and
then put in blanks in the phones in areas where dial service was not
available.
Interesting side note...I believe I spotted the one in Walkers's does
have a dial..but its never shown close up.
The Hidden tributes I mentioned in The Unforgettable Christmas
(see Fan Fiction on our Home page) were as follows:
Ellen Corbin--who played Hubcaps Lesch is "Barney Buys a Car"
Denver Pyle--who played Briscoe Darling
Everett Greenbaum--Script writer (one of my idols)
Ellen was represented by the "Corbin family" Everett was represented
by truck driver "Everett Green", and Denver was paid tribute by
Briscoe's prominent role in the rescue and the name Pyle.
I mentioned they all passed this year, if some were last year, sorry
I lost track of time.
...Goober never did say "hey", good point from George Lindsey.
Gomer did, and Andy often said "Hey to Goober" to Gomer

Can anyone tell me if Andy owned a lawn mower. The only one I can think of
if the old timey ones with the blades that you just push. I ran into a Lady
in the Mall the other night when I was Christmas shopping ( we both we
buying mayberry gifts) and she said that Andy did not own one he always
borrowed the next door neighbors. Someone help me out on this please.

Gomer realized that Thelma Lou and Helen had corsages and he didn't bring one
for Mary Grace. He knew he had goofed big time and didn't want MG to go to
the dance unadorned, so he ducked out to get one for her. It took him longer
than he thought to find one with a little bit of pink in it.

Subject: Harvey Bullock News
Hey folks,
I just found out today that our #1 writer friend here in our little corner of
Mayberry is in the hospital.
That's right...Harvey's daughter emailed me just this morning letting me know
the news. Here's what Courtney Bullock had to say:
"Hello. I hope this gets to you because I'm pirating my father's email. My
Mom asked me to write to let you know that my Dad has been in the hospital
for the last two weeks. He is having pacemaker surgery and it seems that one
thing always leads to another. We are starting a campaign to get his mind
off of being in the hospital.
I found an email he wrote to you and decided to start there. I check his
email regularly and bring copies to the hospital for him. Mom brings him the
mail daily. I hope this isn't awkward, but any words of support would be
wonderful right now.
Thank you,
Courtney Bullock"
Folks, as Barney would say, "Now is the time for all good men to come to the
aid of their neighbor." Let's flood Harvey with Cards and Letters and let
him know how much he's means to us here in Mayberry. He has been so kind to
share his thoughts with us here at WBMUTBB and I know ALL of you will want to
thank him for that!!
We have 2 (actually 3) options:
OPTION #1: Send Harvey a card or letter. Here's how....send your note to me
at:
Allan Newsome
12119 Chicamauga Trail
Huntsville, AL 35803
and I'll get all the cards in the mail to Harvey.
OPTION #2: Email Harvey your thoughts and prayers. Here's how....send your
note to me at:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
And I'll forward them along to Harvey's daughter so she can get them to him.
OPTION #3: Do BOTH. Take a minute to email Harvey a note and then head out
to the store and get him a card (or make one yourself). That way he'll get a
quick note letting him know we're thinking about him and he'll also get a
card to show that we can actually write with a pen or chalk or a crayon or
something other than a comptuer.
Folks, Harvey Bullock has written SO MANY wonderful episodes of The Andy
Griffith Show that have kept our spirits high and filled us with joy. Let's
share some of that joy and love with him.
Get those cards in the mail ASAP and I'll be looking for your emails.
Allan

yes, 'tis strange that Mr. O'Malley ("Chuck!") got off the bus just as Floyd
and
Sally left and Andy was standing right there! Andy offers to give Mr.
O'Malley a
ride. Wonder how Mr. O'Malley was planning to get home in the first place?
Apparently, he'd not planned ahead for that and as we all know, there's no
Mayberry Cab Co. And, also, if Mr. O'Malley was supposed to be "so rich" as
Barney purported, how come the "O'Malley Place" didn't have indoor plumbing?

OK, I held it in as long as I could, but you guys have me confused (a
hard thing to do after Alabama's win over Florida), but which door are
you talking about? There was a door which appeared in the early episodes
near cell No. 1 (as I would call it) you know by the windows, and then it
was sealed up later on. I don't remember if Andy ever opened it or not. I
just figured the producers decided the fewer doors close to the cells the
better, what with Barney around and
all.
Now, we at this Dubose household are very big FSU fans, but that remark
about Florida stands.I'll be out watching for Gold Trucks near 123 South Al
during the Holidays if you want to take it up further. Laura Lee Hobbs
wishing you all (even Florida fans) a Happy and safe Holiday Season.

If this is the same boxed set that I found in a Sam's Club (which seems
likely), I bought them and found them worth the money. But I bought them
before I knew about WBMUTBB and Weaver's!

My guess is that it would be cheaper to have just one model and skip the
installation of the dial than it would be to have lots of models and have to
retool and re-setup the line every time you had to switch production.
(That's my assembly-line experience coming out...you're not talkin' to a
jerk, you know!!) Some parts of the country dialed out, some had a
switchboard operator dial for them.
As an aside to this, I'm old enough to remember when either placing or
receiving a long-distance call was a BIG DEAL. Every time I see the
episodes where someone's calling from long distance, it brings that time
back to me!
And thirdly, I was watching "Bewitched" last night and saw Parley Baer/Mayor
Stoner. He was a bigoted potential client of Darrin's ad agency whom they
told to go elsewhere when they found out what kind of a person he was.
