Hey Mayberry Family,
This poll thing has been great fun, but I for one am kind of getting weary of
it.........
after all, WE know who's number one.
I wanted to add that I am so thrilled that Don Knotts got his star. THAT is
wonderful. I have been touched by the fact that Andy Griffith and Don Knotts
shared a true friendship that went beyond working together, and that
friendship has remained strong through the years. One of the things about
The Andy Griffith Show that I have always loved were the examples of true
friendship, the lessons learned about putting someone else before yourself,
sparing the other person's feelings if possible, etc. Life lessons, you might
call em'
It is neat to me that the friendship Andy and Barney acted out on the show
was actually a reality apart from the TV show.
Because of Mayberry---which led to this Digest, I've made some friends that I
treasure and couldn't do without. Yall know who you are!
Long Live Mayberry,

Hello all!
Did anyone else happen to watch The Nutty Professor on AMC last Fri? The
original with Jerry Lewis and Stella Stevens and our very own Howard Morris!
Howard played the Professor's father. Every time I see him in other roles, I
am truly amazed at how gifted he really is!
I also get Game Show Network, and several times have spotted Elaine Joyce on
The Match Game. I like to spot my TAGS cast in other character roles!
It's a "compelsion," you know....
like when someone has a hand washing compelsion!

I do believe I've been bitten by the green-eyed monster (there's some stuff
at the drug store that'll keep'em off ya)! I've been out of the loop for a
few months now and what better way to get back into the swing of things than
to find out Don finally got his star and that one of our very own had a
chance to meet Andy himself! I declare I'm just pickled tink!

While leafing through a weekly Internet magazine inserted in with our Sunday
paper, I read about some existing virtual sites whereby one can virtually
explore popular places - ranging from the White House and Cape Canaveral to a
B-17 Flying Fortress. Once there, one can click on buildings, rooms, or other
places of interest within the landscape to get close-up and view from more
intimate and interior perspectives.
Guess by now y'all know where I'm going with this, but why contract some
web designer to construct a "Virtual Mayberry", so that diehards like us can
click on Andy's porch to "slow down", peel an apple, and share a bottle of
pop, or take a tour of the courthouse with other tourists...and maybe even
have cyber Barney Fife as a tour guide? Just a thought straight out from
under the "Thinkin' Bucket".
I pass the ball to anyone else who may care to run with it (?)....

Mike, I'm the group's greatest proponent for Mary Simpson (Sue Ane Langdon)
being the girl that Andy should have ended up with.
When you get to meet her, tell her she has a great fan in Greenville, SC.
Thanks,
dan

Every time I see the episode "The Pickle Story" this question comes to
mind, so I'm sharing it with you. When they are trying to get rid of
the store-bought pickles so Aunt Bee will make more, there is a clever
montage, double exposure, whatever you want to call it, as time passes
and Aunt Bee proudly watches Andy Barney and Opie eat the pickles.
Mayberry 101 mentions the clever music score but doesn't comment on the
montage (not to be confused with moulage)
I don't remember seeing the producers use this technique on any other
episode, particularly in the black and white, one-camera era. Any
others you can think of? (if you remember what I'm talking about)
Another infrequently-used technique was the "dream" method
where a charactar would dream or imagine an event, and they would film
footage to actually show what was being dreamed. I can think of one
black and white, and one color episode where this took place. Can you
name them both winning epsiodes(or more???) First correct to the Digest
gets published.
Write me if you're not sure or know just one.
All God's chidren got a uvula!

Washington Irving wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". I actually played
Ichabod Crane on stage many years ago. Scary story.

I can never remember. Was that written by Calvin Coolidge, or was it
Washington Irving? Seems like there was a president's name in there
somewhere.
Have a good one y'all!

I know everyone is excited about the epilogues that TV Land is including, but
wouldn't it be great if they could also include the commercials they used to
play at the end of the shows? I guess that's impossible, unless they could
include some in those Retromercials they run. Was it my imagination, or
didn't Andy have a tag line he used to say after every commercial...after he
would urge everyone to try whatever product it was (Post Cereals, Sanka
Coffee, etc.), didn't he always say "I'd appreciate it, and goodnight"? Or am
I remembering someone else? It's been almost 35 years since I've heard it.
