Subject: Matlock and quotes

Hi Gang...

Loved the Matlocks also, in fact had a tape rolling all night to catch
the 6 I slept thru. We always tape it during the day for playback at
night since there's nothing else on. I was real pleased when they used
many of them with Don Knotts. Sure i'm a TAGS fan, but anything with
Andy in it is fantastic, and Don makes it awesome.

Another note to newcommers to the net and e-mail. The gentleman made
reference to hitting the reply button and it sending the entire digest
back to itselt, you can prevent that. I always just hit reply, thats
the convenience of a list like this. Just go into your Edit/Preferences
section of your browser and you should have an option to quote or not
quote the original message. I always leave this turned off and my
Netscape mail screen has a quote button if I so choose to do so. Not
sure about AOL or Web-TV but i'm sure there is a similar setting.

Have a good one!!!!!!!

Thanks for bringing up that Pink Floyd billboard! One of our local
Orlando radio stations used that too a few years back and we really got a
kick out of it. We even drove out one night just to snap a few photos of
it! Ah, the references to our beloved Mayberry and its residents are
many and wondrous! Aunt Bee
P.S. I'm recovering from wrist surgery and really enjoying this digest
and watching TAGS and Gomer on TVLand!

Incorrect answers irritate me as well. I was playing a game called
"Balderdash" with some friends and the game said that Gomer Pyle left
Mayberry and the Andy Griffith Show to start "The Gomer Pyle Show" I said
that the correct answer should have been "Gomer Pyle, USMC" I lost the
game because of that question.... :( I was right wasn't I?

That's the correct way, so don't lose any sleep over your reply
method. If you DON'T highlight what you want to reply to and
just hit "reply" in your mail program, you'll send the whole of
today's digest with your message.

to reply, I go to write & then go to the address book which puts in the
address & type in my message.

As a beginner banjo player, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get
tablature for the TAGS theme song. I'm not musically-inclined enough to be
able to figure it out by listening to it so am hoping someone else has done
the dirty work. I can't imagine a more fun song to practice.

From: Allan Newsome <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Re: Replying to the Digest

Hey Folks,

To clear this up, what Joe was talking about is that many people have a
setting on their email client (Netscape, Outlook Express, etc) to
AUTOMATICALLY quote the message you are replying to. This is not a good
thing when what you are replying to is an issue of the WBMUTBB Digest
(or any other mailing list) because it sends a copy of the "old" Digest
along with your reply. It's also not a good thing to send messages to a
mailing list that use HTML format. (By HTML format I mean when you add
color, bold text, etc. to the email.)

What you need to do is turn off these feature of your email client. If
these are off, then hitting "Reply" is fine. The folks on AOL don't
have the quote problem so you guys don't have to worry about it. (AOL
only "quotes" the part of the message you're replying to that you
highlight so just don't highlight the entire Digest and you'll be fine.
AOL will do HTML based text but PLEASE do NOT use any formatting when
writing email from AOL. i.e. No bold, colors, etc.)

You can turn off these features in Netscape by going to "Edit:
Preferences: Mail&Newsgroups: Messages" and unchecking the
"Automatically quote the original message when replying". Now move to
"Edit: Preferences: Mail&Newsgroups: Formatting" and choose "Ask me what
to do if the message has HTML formatting, otherwise send plain text."
This will cause Netscape to ask you if you want to send your email in
plain text or HTML. Always choose "Send in Plain Text Only" when
emailing to the Digest.

You can turn off these features in Outlook Express by going to "Tools:
Options: Send (tab)" and choosing "Plain Text" in the "Mail sending
format" area and unchecking the "Include message in reply" check box at
the bottom of the window. Then click "OK." (If you don't want to disable
the HTML option for your email, each time you write a message to the
Digest or any other mailing list you can go to the "Format" menu in the
message you are composing and choose "Plain Text" before you send the
email.)

I'm sure that other email clients have similar features so if you have a
different email tool just look to see how to fix yours to do "Plain
text" and how not to quote the message your replying to.

Sorry for the computer lesson but I figured I ought to explain it for
y'all. For the most part folks are doing well posting messages.
Hopefully you will find these instructions helpful.

Subject: All the Why's

I have a universal answer to all WHY questions that are in the digest these
days. Such as...Why did Opie not seem to be nine years old...why did Clara
have the "greased lightning" syndrome...why did Andy and Barney go to the
same reunion...? Because that's how it is in Mayberry!!! Part of the beauty
and sweetness of the show was/is the ability of the writers to manipulate
time and circumstances to make things come out just right. I'm glad that
Mayberry isn't bound by a standard calendar, or by time. I'm glad for
Mayberry just the way it is!

using the reply button

WebTV owners CAN use their reply buttons. Microsoft must have took a
think under the bucket before they put this webtv on the market; you
have to hit an option button to attach the message you are replying to.
You also can rid your e-mail of all html with the click of a button. So
I don't have to ever worry about Barney slapping me with that $4 fine
for littering!

Hey,
Tell you about me? hummm...
I have been an Andy Griffith freak since the beginning of time, although
you'd never know it since I have never made leggalamb, (Andy's favorite
dish), never tasted moonshine (Otis's favorite dish), and never managed to
pass the Barney Fife Peter Piper Nose Pinching Test for Drunks (even
sober)and even though I live here, I've never met Thelma Lou's attractive
cousin.
I am divorced, I have four really great kids who were raised on Andy Griffith
because their mother is a very wise woman, and I'm looking for a job and
about to start school again after all these years of kid-raising and home
schooling.
That's it, 10-4-Roger-Wilco-over-and-out.
Thanks for the help, Gomer. I can change my own oil now.

Let's see, where do I start? I have been a TAGS fan all my life, but have
only in the past 8 years or so, appreciated all the show has to offer, as my
husband and I have started to raise our family. We're so happy to be able to
let them enjoy a show that embraces our values, and those we are trying to
instill in our children. Anyway, my wonderful husband and I have been
married for almost twelve years, and we have been blessed with two children.
Our son is nine and our daughter is six. I am very fortunate to be a stay at
home mom, and to be homeschooling our children. We live in a small city in
Utah, that is not unlike Mayberry. We appreciate being able to raise our
children in that kind of atmosphere where traditional values are honored and
respected. I'm very happy to have found a "small town" on the web, and not
just any small town, but the town of my dreams, Mayberry. I look forward to
becoming better acquainted with all of you and yours.

I am a 32 y.o. "lady druggist" who watches the show every chance I get. I
have two children and a husband of 11 years who will actually watch the
episodes with me,although my children still prefer the "other" Barney. I do
not have a favorite because they are all great. Thank you for the opportunity
to join your club and to receive info on the show.
