Howdy all. This little town has been particularly friendly the last
couple days, and I'll bet Mayor Newsome (er Stoner) is right proud of us
all.

I don't catch all the TVL shows/episodes, but I saw a good one this week
that some that don't get TVL might enjoy. At the end of The Bank Job
(where Barney dressed up as the substitute cleaning lady and got locked
in the vault) Asa comes to the courthouse to show Barney that he got
new screws for his gun, and shined up his bullets. They ask him who is
guarding the Bank? Embarrassed he rushes off, leaving his gun. It gets
knocked to the floor...and falls into pieces again. Oh well, he tried!

A recent new member (and boy they've been comin' by the busload haven't
they) mentioned that her maiden name was Fife, and that it is a fairly
uncommon name. However, here in Indiana, most folks know that Bobby
Knight's basketball team includes a Fife! In fact he also has the
letters A N & E in his first name. It's Dane Fife, starting guard for
the Hoosiers. I think he also had a brother that played for Michigan.
Being a former sports writer, I wouldn't have missed the opportunity to
coin such phrases as "Fast Gun Fife" or "Fife's Nip-it Nip-it Nip-it
defense".

At last, I'm putting the finishing touches on the new "Lost Episode" I
promised. I'm a little intimidated now that there are at least two real
authors among the readers here. For you newer members, I'm just a
hack creative writer, with a little Mayberry knowledge. I have shared a
few shorts scenes, and a couple other full scripts with the Digest.
you can see the full episodes (such as 'An Unforgettable Christmas') at:
http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/index.htm select the Fan Fiction link
near the bottom.
My rules for a Lost Episode are that they must be true to the
characters and their relationships, and it must be original.
The easy thing is that I don't have to worry about production issues
that real writers did. The hard part is to paint a scene, and put the
reader there, with words only.
I will send the story in segments. The reason is twofold. First
to build a little interest and keep you guessing, and second is to
not hog too much of the Digest with this long spaced out story. The idea
of Lost Episode is to let you imagine that it was written during the
TAGS run, but never filmed. Actually, it's just my imagination.
If ya don't like it, just scroll on, somebody else will. The title
is "The Favorite Story Never Told" (start guessin')

Ken,

It wasn't a mistake in THE BULLET. TNT and TBS move their shows around
regular like and that's what happened. Sorry.

In response to the following question "In what episode will you find Andy, on
two separate occasions have a cigarette?"

I know he lit a cigarette in "Mr MacBeevee" right after he acknowledged that
he believes in Opie (even tho he did not believe in Mc Mac). That scene gets
me every time.

.
With all the talk of Ben Weaver & the Spirits, it is a good thing that
the Baldwin sisters lived in Waltons Mountain & not Mayberry. Old Ben
would have had a fit, when they freely handed out "papa's recipe" not
knowing that it was really moonshine. >>
Well - Ben would have worried about the Morrison Sisters - ol Clarabelle and
Jennifer knew how to whip up a beverage with a kick in their "flower making
machine". Jennifer was so boy crazy however - better not show up around her
with a splash of witch hazel on your chin.

Subject: Juanita on tv

My recent trivia question about Juanita's only tv appearance got no
replys, so here's the answer: on the old SCTV series, they did a sketch which
combined The Merv Griffin Show with The Andy Griffith Show- Merv was the
Mayberry sheriff, etc. It was a hoot to say the least. One scene had Merv
doing his "show" from the Taylor living room, and it featured Eugene Levy as
a dead-on Floyd (post-stroke), and Joe Flaherty as Barney, who brought as a
special guest- Juanita!
I realize this might be stretching our "keep on the subject" policy here,
but, as a life-long fan of TAGS, I always got a big kick out of that
particular segment of SCTV (which originally ran from 1976-1984). Am I the
only one here who remembers it?

Did anyone notice in the episode Bernie buys a car, when Barnie is giving
everyone a ride he shifts the car like it is a 3 speed standard shift. Then
later in the show when the steering column is coming out they show a drivers
view of the steering and it shows P-N-D-L-R (automatic transmission ).
Later when Gomer comes to the Court House to tell Barnie what it needs to fix
it he quotes part that are in the standard shift.

Several of you have said how much you miss your daily dose of TAGS because
you don't get TVLand. My suggestion is to switch from cable to a satelite
system. I switched to Dish Network nearly 3 years ago and love it. It has
more channels and a better signal than cable. Also the price is less (you
have to buy the receiver/dish, but there are lots of deals out to minimize
or eliminate the cost). This is not a paid advertisement for Dish because I
have no ties to them. Unless you have covenant restrictions or live in an
apartment where you can't put up a dish or do not have an unobstructed line
of sight to the southwestern skies, you will get TAGS again plus lots more
great stuff. Hopefully you'll have happy viewing again.

How about when Luke Comstock comes back to town to give Andy that
shotgun? Just before Opie and Aunt Bee leave for Miss Clara's to avoid
any hullabaloo, Andy is seen sitting at the dining room table smoking.
Glad he and most of us have quit this habit.

As to houseplans, I looked in the book I have of TV sets and plans and
alas, there wasn't one for the Bonanza homestead. Sorry.

And I'm here to testify about our visit to Morelli's last night (via Miss
Poovey's domicile): it was one terrific evening! Lots of fun reminiscing
over episodes with a new member too! I thought the most clever prize was
a bracelet with the letters WWAD!

Hey Dave - You got me stumped on that one. Any hints? As some Matlock
fans know, Betty Lynn did appear (at least once) as Sarah - can't keep
from thinkin Andy threw that in for us TAGS fans. Too bad she didn't
take a dip of snuff...

Ahheeemmm (that's me clearin' my throat). "Laura Lee Hobbs, you git in
this house before you get your new dress dirty. Don't you look at me that
way! You just wait til your Daddy gets home!"

Like most folks who were little stinkers as kids, she grew up pretty good,
what with her working at the dime store and all. I don't think she
developed her gold truck affliction until she was grown.

Well, I talked to my pastor yesterday, and the First Baptist Church of
Mauldin, SC will be including the TAGS Bible Study as part of the next
church year's schedule. Beginning in October, we will probably offer the
class twice a week, once on Sunday as a regular Sunday School class and
then again on Wednesday evening.

My thanks to the special folks here in Mayberry who helped me with the
lesson plans and the tapes.

TAGS fans,

According to the "This day in history" feature in the Rocky Mountain
News today, "Andy Griffith guest-starred as Sheriff Andy Taylor on 'The
Danny Thomas Show' on this day in 1960.'" I had to come in to work anyway
today because--and you're probably not going to believe this--my company
doesn't recognize this or Sir Walter Raleigh Landing Day as legal holidays.
Boy, that really frosts me!

Anyway, happy Andy On Danny Thomas Day to you all!

Subject: Sure Mike and Welcome Sweet Springtime

Howdy Folks, hope everyone's having a great Valentines Day. Cream Puffs.
Patrick Olivers' comments on "Sure Mike" were one heck of a coincidence.
Wait a tick, could it be Count Delecki? That episode came on TVLand (don't
get it but my friends in South St. Paul do) the other day and was turning my
friend and her boy on to it. Well, I just happen to have watched that
episode a couple of times off my tapes last week back in Duluth. Y'all ever
get a hankering for a certain episode for no reason? Either way, I think
I've been driving them crazy with that come-back lately. It just tickles me
to no end. I'm wondering the same thing Patrick was wondering. Is there a
rhyme or reason to that quip?
One other thing, Sat. evening my friend's boy was watching a show called
"Doug" on Nickelodeon and they were having some kind of pageant in the
school auditorium. Well, right when I walked into the living room this
woman started playing "Welcome Sweet Springtime" (is that the right title?)
on the piano, and instinctively I started singing the words. Dave started
laughing and looking at me like I had lost it (he's a strange one... (Barn)
he's a nut!) so I finished (had to) and then explained to him the deal. I'm
spreading the gospel of TAGS to Minnesota! (now I know there's fans up here
already so don't get riled, that vein'll start sticking out!) Now, I know
that song came before TAGS, but for me it's pure Andy. Barn has such a
lovely baritone don't he? LOL Real sensitive microphone too I hear tell.
See y'all in the funny papers Otis "what a mess I made of my life" Campbell
Nickelodeon....Makes ya think don't it....
