Today my mind carries me back to the Founder's Day episode, and what
a dandy one it is (Everything is OK in Mayberry today!).
While swearing in three extra deputies, Otis, Floyd and another guy whose
name I don't recall, Floyd's hat is way too big for him while the other
guy's is way too small. Andy tells them to exchange hats, but for some
inexplicable reason unknown to science, the same thing happens
again--Floyd's new hat is still too big, the other guy's hat is still way
too
small. So they go back to the original way, and still neither guy has a hat
that fits. Now this scene recently was cut during the exchange back part,
but if TVLand keeps it in, it is priceless. I have heard that it
took over 20 takes for this scene to be filmed because every time Don
Knotts looked at Floyd he would burst out laughing. I wonder what causes
that?

Yes - there is a thing as a citizen's arrest but "Don't try this at home". I
tried to make a citizen's arrest one time. There was a big huge enormous
man stealing lingeree at J. C. Penney's. This is true - like a Tale out of
Two Cities - he had on some elastic waist pants and was literally scraping
counters of lingeree off into his pants. I was so shocked and appalled that
I went up to him and told him I saw what he was doing and that I was making
a citizen's arrest. Since he outweighed me about 300 pounds and I was a
goober without a gun and I didn't have handcuffs, a bullet or anything, he
just bolted and ran past me knocking me into the Maidenform bra display.
Then I yelled, "Stop that Man" but he got away. Later I was told that I
should never confront a shoplifter inside the store. So from now on, I'll
just wait until they go outside and see if they clank. Although it's safe
enough in Mayberry - I wouldn't try it again in this day and time. Better to
call 911 if you have it. If not - ask Sarah to connect you with the
Sheriff's Office unless the Mendlebright sisters are using the phone to
discuss their feet.

The other one is when Andy delivers the baby (Andy). "Sure didn't freeze up
on this little grasshopper."

Here's a question I have no idea what it means. When Barney gives the
Governor a ticket and gets "gassed"...Andy is trying to explain to him the
situation and Barney says, "sure Mike" does anyone know what this is in
referrence too? And don't think I haven't used that line on several
occasions and NO ONE gets it, but one night I had people crying over it.

I was saddened to learn of Charles Schultz death on the news today. If
ever ther was a Mayberry kind of guy, I think Charles Schultz was. How
ironic that this was the last issue of the comiic strip "Peanuts"
running today.
With all the talk of Ben Weaver & the Spirits, it is a good thing that
the Baldwin sisters lived in Waltons Mountain & not Mayberry. Old Ben
would have had a fit, when they freely handed out "papa's recipe" not
knowing that it was really moonshine. That possibly would have
provided old Otis & his friends a good supply, if he could have gotten
to be friends with the dear old ladies.

Hey,
A friend of mine is building a new house and she wrote
and said that they felt so dumb because they hadn't
realized that TV houses were sets. Do I recall a
mention a ways back of a book that had floorplans of
TV show homes in it? They are looking for plans of
Bonanza's Ponderosa ranch house. If there is anyone
out there that knows about this, I'd sure appreciate
it if you'd drop me a line. Please send info directly
to me so we don't clog up the digest.
Thanks,
Sandy

Hi Fellow Mayberrians!
    I have a question...something that's been bugging me for a while. I was
just a newborn when TAGS went on the air, but I seem to remember that in
the later years CBS started referring to the show as simply "Andy in
Mayberry". Is this really the case or merely a fignewton of my
imagination?

Thanks in advance for helping to calm my fevered mind!

Ron Burtz

Ron,
I think that it was called Andy of Mayberry during the time if was being
syndicated during the morning hours on CBS. Not real sure why it was, maybe
because of copy rights or something. In the past I have bought recorded
video cassettes and they had, in the opening credits, the title of "Andy of
Mayberry." The ones I have now are titled TAGS but don't have the original
song on them.

lots of luck to you and yours
Charlie

You're exactly right. When TAGS first entered syndication in the mid-60s,
the show was still on the air in prime time. For some strange reason that
must have made sense to somebody back then, the daytime reruns bore the
title "Andy of Mayberry." When the show went off the air, they went back to
using "The Andy Griffith Show." Once in a while, TV stations (and some
video tape manufacturers) re-use an old print that has the "Andy of
Mayberry" title at the beginning.

For Ron
When CBS started showing TAGS reruns on their daytime line-up they used
ths name "Andy of Mayberry"

I apologize for my last post that included all my html code; it was
late, I was sleepy and my finger slipped.

Now just to share a few things with ya'll...
my wonderful husband Elvisfife (a combonation of 2 very cool guys) was
not a very big fan of TAGS when we first met. But as you other womanfolk
out there know, we have to whip our men into what we want them to be. So
after about 3=B9/=B2 years of work, he is a great part of our TAGSRWC
chapter and holds his own in Mayberry trivia. But I really knew that I
had done my job Friday night. My stepdaughter's school held a
Father/Daughter dance. I made a silk wrist corsage for Elvisfife to give
to her. When the time came, he gave her the corsage and said "A girl
like you ought'en not go to a dance unadorned"!!! He made me proud!!!

Other news. Our chapter of TAGSRWC, the Opie chapter had a meeting last
night (Saturday) It was at my apartment and as those of you who know me,
I like to do things BIG!
The theme for the night was Morelli's Restaurant. Evisfife and I greeted
the members dressed in matching chef hats and aprons. True to the show,
we transformed our apartment into Morelli's right down to the checkered
tableclothes, candles on the tables, and the window in the kitchen where
you could see the chef pounding the steak! Everyone got a soveneir
polaroid of themselves with the chef and his pounding mallet looking out
from the kitchen. Oh and the food! Aunt Bee couldnt have done better! We
had pounded steak, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, Italian bread,
minestone, (it's really something when it's done right) and shrimp
cocktail. (we decided to fill up!) and for dessert we had a de-lish cake
that said "Happy Valentine's Day Cream Puff".
Everyone earned an Opie door knob hanger by singing the theme song of a
classic TV show whose name they pulled out of a hat. The apartment was
filled with the sounds of the "Beverly Hillbillys", "All in the Family",
"The Brady Bunch" and other favorites. We looked at my website as some
of our members do not have internet access. We played trivia ( the
Mayberry Board game) for little prizes, the funniest being a sign that
you hang from your doorknob. It had a picture of Rafe Hollister and it
said "I'm out a-checking on my stills; ya'll come on back later!". A
good time was had by all. For those of you in out there in the Opie
chapter who could not attend, we missed you but enjoyed eating your
share of the food! :-) Hope ya'll will make it next time!

I just received my latest "Bullet" and it mentioned that there were back to
back episodes of Mayberry RFD on TBS from 7:00-8:00 ETS. But when checking
our local tv listings and TBS at those times, it wasn't there. Does
anyone have any info on this or was the infomation in the Bullet a mistake?
Sure would appreciate an answer to this question ASAP. Would hate to be
missing the episodes if they are indeed on somewhere. Hey to you and
yours.
