I have already admitted that I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Pike fan, but I do have
to admit that Mayor Stoner did have some funny scenes. There's always the
S-T-O-N-E-R scene when he's calling the Governor about the ticket and later
when he gets soused by drinking water from the crock. And the look of
sheer horror as the town band heads out of town on the bus.

Oh, I don't think the Mayor was mean, just after the Bed Jacket episode, I
decided he didn't have a very happy homelife.

<<To all the mayberry fans out there,I would like to know if you all have
any reunions,I've only been in this chapter since July or August of 1999,but
I sure would like to meet up some people who like the Andy Griffith show as
much as I do,could you tell me if there are any reunions coming up>>

Best one coming up right away that I know of is [EMAIL PROTECTED] III in
Kingsport, TN weekend of June 23/24. They will be celebrating the 40th
Anniversary of TAGS. We had a wonderful time last year. Got to meet our own
Allan, and a number of other Chapter members there. I plan on getting
together Friday evening with some bluegrassers on Friday night, the 23rd to
do some jamming. Got a friend coming down from just across the state line to
pick. Y'all come on down and bring your instruments. Hope to have a friend
from Ark, and one from Las Vegas there also.

>> I hope this is not deviating too far from TAGS, but upon hearing
about the death of Charles Schultz, I found myself remembering the scene
in one episode where Andy is reading Little Orphan Annie to Opie and
Opie was asking questions about the comic strip. I just wondered how
Andy would handle it when (I am an art and music teacher) a child asked
about Mr. Schultz's death....Just wish I had some words like Andy always
seems to have! Sherrie Jewell<<<
- ------------------------------
Opie: Paw, I heard that the guy who invented Charlie Brown died last
week. Isn't that gonna make all the people that read the funny
paper sad? ...and what will happen to Charlie Brown.

Andy: Yes, it will make people sad Opie. When a person passes on,
there is always sadness...but before long that sadness is joined
by happy memories...and the tears, see, they can't run straight
down the face..no sir...cause they gotta take a detour to get
around the smile. (Opie grins at this reference)
You take Mr. Schultz here. Now, his family will be sad that
he's not at the dinner table...but everywhere they look, his
work and his cartoons are all around. Now if he'd 've just
hung around and drew cartoons for himself...and never shared
it with anybody, THAT would've been sad.
Ya see Ope, we all just got so many years here, and it don't
matter if you've got a rowboat or a yatcht...what matters is how
many people you make friends, with and help along the way.
Why uh, Mr. Shultz there, he made millions of people laugh, and
his work will live on and continue to make people laugh... some
that aren't even born yet. That's what they call a leg-acy.
Opie: Do you think you'll have a legacy Paw?
Andy: Well, I sure hope to. It may just be right-chere in Mayberry,
but I think if I treat folks right, they'll uh...remember me.
Opie: You're a Good Man Sheriff Taylor...people will remember you,
and Charlie Brown...heck, he don't never have to grow-up...
maybe one of these days he'll even get good a baseball, but
      I doubt it.

Jim Nabors is performing at the Wisconsin Dells this summer, maybe we
can get some Midwestern TAGS fans together for the concert. If anyone is
interested, let me know. I agree with Lauralee, Briscoe Darling is quite
studly.

Dear Gang,
Just wanted to let you know about a friend of mine who teaches 5th grade and
loves TAGS as much as I do. A few years ago when it was raining and the kids
couldn't go outside at recess, she popped a tape in of TAGS. It was "Opie's
Charity". The kids loved it and was a really good one to talk about to the
kids. Now every Friday at recess time she gives them the option of going
outside or staying inside and watching another episode. Some go outside
(with other classes and teachers), but the majority stay inside and watch
with her. She says she tries to get episodes with Opie and then they talk
about the moral lesson that most have. Opie's Medal was a good one she said.
We all know how wonderful they are for our children to watch. My two kids
grew up watching TAGS and they are 25 and 19 and still watch.
Just thought I would let you know about this and maybe there are other
teachers that could use this in their classroom also.
Thanks for listening.

Hi All,

Does anyone know what happened, if anything, at the end of the episode
to the goat that ate the dynamite?

Hey Folks,

Southern Living magazine has a short mention of Ron Howard's upcoming
birthday and that the way to celebrate it would be to go to
http://www.mayberry.com and send a postcard to somebody!!!

The mention is on page 72 of the March 2000 issue so if you get a copy be
sure to check it out!! I didn't know anything about it and Jan was reading
it to me and I thought she was just making it up. ha ha...

This is in behalf of someone who would like a copy of the episodes "The
Manhunt" and "Andy the Matchmaker". They need these episodes for a
journalism project that is due in a few weeks on crime in Mayberry. If
anyone would be willing to provide a copy of these two episodes or know
where they could buy them commercially, please e-mail them directly at
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]".

I'd have to argree that Floyd stands out as the the most important and
underrated supporting actor on TAGS. It was mentioned recently that he was
in Anatomy of a Murder. Another great role he played was as a deceitful
wretch in Blue Hawaii - running a sham of a touring company. He's a gooden!

And Allan, you do him a fine justice!!!!! I'm sure life with you is never
boring!
