Way to go, Diana. That'n made me cry. How true it is, though. The kids
have no morals these days, and they think life is just one BIG joke. I see
it in my own grandkids everyday. It just makes me sick. All kids should be
required to watch TAGS as a daily assignment in school, and then write an
essay about what they learned from it.

Not to get too way off the subject area, but if any of you are in the
Enterprise, AL, area on March 18, at 6:00 p.m., consider yourself invited to
the wedding of our son, Nick and his lovely bride-to-be, Terri.
Right dap in down town Enterprise, there is a statue erected to honor the
boll
weevil. You find it, turn right, and you will run smack into the Charleston
House. This is where the wedding will take place. We probably will have
plenty of food (this is, after all, long fork's speciality), but to be on
the safe side, you might want to bring a platter of chicken wings or ribs,
but of course you will be welcome to
just bring yourself! It promises to be a humdinger! Laura Lee Hobbs
P.S. I'm just kidding about bringing food, but I would like to see Miss
Manners' face IF somebody actually did bring in a platter of wings! "Of all
the unmitigated gall!" Barney

Hello. I sent this letter last week and it has not appeared in the digest:
Could someone kindly re-post the web address that shows a photo of the Desilu
studios lot? At the end of "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.", when the credits are
rolling, they show a still photo of the barracks area. In the background, you
can see the very top of what looks like a 2 story frame structure. Is that
part of the TAGS lot?
Thanks, Semper Fi, and good luck to you and yours!

TAGS fans,
Since I was one of the ones who tried to get the ball rolling for us to
write to Nick-at-Nite to show TAGS, I thought I would write TVLAND and offer
a couple of comments and suggestions. I thought having Nick/TVLAND do this
would be a good idea because they restored I Love Lucy and added closed
captioning. I thought they could do the same for TAGS. Since TVLAND has
been airing marathons in February I suggested to them that they offer a TAGS
marathon with some uncut episodes, since TBS had done that for us. I
thanked them for showing TAGS and told them how good it was to see the
epilogues again, and then I asked them to consider airing some uncut
episodes. The following is their response in which they indicate that no
one has ever aired the complete Andy Griffith show since it originally aired
and that TVLAND is presenting more than anyone ever has. My question is
this: Were the TBS episodes really uncut and complete? My understanding
was that they were.
Again, here is an excerpt from TVLANDs response:
"Additionally, there are actually, due to the practices of other networks
before us, scenes that have been lost forever. They do not exist anywhere
any longer (not even on the home video sets sold commercially.) This is sad
indeed.
Only when absolutely necessary, we do our best to remove small pieces of the
show which will not affect the plotline(s) in any way. We think the trade
off is worth it because NO network has aired The complete Andy Griffith Show
UN-edited since it's original air time on CBS and we are bringing you more
of it than anyone ever has."

I just got to watch one of my favorite episodes on a local station..."Barney
and the Choir". I still have trouble determining which is funnier this
episode..or the simliar "The Song Festers". Do you know how many times
Barney sings "Balmy and Light" when Andy is coaching him to get softer and
softer?
It's funny to reflect on the first choir session when John Masters was so
naive that he could not detect that Barney was the one singing "the tiniest
bit flat" but later Opie notices immediately.
Paul, or other Trained Notciers, what can you tell us about any of the
Extra's in the choir?
We know abour Glen Cripe, Andy, Aunt Bee and Thelma Lou..but what about the
other men or the young blond lady? We know that Barbara Griffith appeared
in The Song Festers, anybody famous is this group? Hazel...."Welcome sweet
Springtime.."
8 is the number of times Barney sings Balmy and Light in that coaching
session.
The set for that first practice appears to be Town Hall. Is this the same
set used for the practice sessions in "The Song Festers" when Gomer is hear
outside?? The Town Hall is also used
in many other stories, such as the debate between Howard and Aunt Bee...When
Barney ran against Andy, and presented 3 of the many cases of malfesance.
I'm sure there are others.

I really liked the epilogue last night from the Robin Hood episode. As
you recall, Andy was telling the hobo about all the different jobs he
could get in town, but as it turned out the jobs didn't really exist -
Andy was just bluffing because he knew the guy didn't really want a job.
In the epilogue, Opie asked Andy if it was ever okay for a sheriff to
tell a lie - referring to the jobs. Andy hem-hawed around and finally
said "I guess I don't have a leg to stand on".
It took a little while for it to soak in (shoulda broke out the bucket)
but I realized Ange was probably referring to the hobo's fracture of
the petula obongola as 'not having a leg to stand on'.

The message from Diana about the death of the young girl was
interesting. The continued slaughter of our children, often by other kids,
is a tragic sign of what's wrong with America.
As we all know, Andy seldom carried a gun. I wonder if he was for
gun control; I know he gave a young friend of Opie's a lesson on gun safety
on the front porch one time, and I believe that episode is on TVLand
tonight.
Guns were often played for laughs on the show, with Barney firing
bullets into cabinets, desks and floors, but there are also scenes where
guns are pointed at people in a threatening way. The proliferation of
weapons in our society is terrifying - we could use a sensible system, with
fewer weapons and fewer deaths. I know Andy didn't carry a pistol because
it made him feel lopsided, but I also recall the time he told the faux
writer that he wanted people to respect the man, not fear the gun.

I grew up in North Carolina and "Andy" (thats what the show is called in NC
not "tags") is on all the time,
thank goodness lol, and we call them "dime-stores" ours was a Ben Franklin,
talking about dime stores made
me think of drinking coke thru a paper straw and how much better it tasted.
One of my fave phrases that I use
all the time when driving is...."Beep Beep, Outta the way Sunday driver"!

Subject: WBMUTBB Chapter T-shirts
Hey folks,
I've heard from several of you about t-shirts and I wanted to make a few
things clear for everybody.
1) I will be sending out an email to request orders BEFORE I actually place
the order for the stuff so you'll have plenty of time before we order. Folks
that order will have to get their checks to me ASAP so I can make the order.
(I don't have a couple of thousand laying around to "prepay" the folks that
make the shirts for us).
2) We will order just about ANY size you might need. Small up to 4XL (maybe
larger if you're a real "hardy eatin' man or beautiful delicate woman" OR if
you like 'em for sleep shirts like Jan does)
3) We will have sweatshirts but I don't order any extras of the sweatshirts
so if you don't order it when you have your chance....you'll miss out.
4) Please give me your ideas for other stuff (that we can afford...no
Computers or anything...ha ha). So far coffee mugs was the only suggestion
and I don't think we'll do that. Weaver's has PLENTY of Mayberry coffee mugs
and I don't want to take any coffee drinkers from them.
Remember, this is for Chapter members only so this makes it a lot of fun.
When you see folks at Mayberry events and they're wearing our shirt...be sure
to walk up and say "hey".
Allan

Hello, I live in Wake Forest. NC and TAGS is only on once a week (and not
every week) Saturday 7:30pm channel 5 Raleigh. This has only been the last
few months. Before that nothing, Nada, never. I WISH it was always on in
NC. I am in Orlando now visiting my parents. I am an Orlando native BTW
(born at Orange Memorial Hospital 12-18-65.) I also remember that old
channel 35 commercial. I was happy to find that my mom had ordered the TAGS
videos from Columbia House. She has 2, Mayberry Favorites and The Law
according to Barney Fife. Love it, especially Mayberry Favorites. I have
seen scenes that I had never seen before. For instance, the epilogue from
Dogs, Dogs, Dogs. It's great. I noticed that in the credits for Mr.
McBeevee that Harvey Bullock's writing partner is listed as R. Allen Saffian
but in Neal Brower's book Mayberry 101 he is listed as Ray Saffian Allen.
Which is correct????????? Thanks. Maria PS Brian says hey.
