Subject: Mayberry Spirit

I have been following the saga of contributions to the new game with
interest and I want to let everyone know that Scott and I both offered
what we did in the name of "Mayberry spirit." I did not make up any
trivia questions specifically for the game, but have created 2 daily
quote/trivia calendar to share with friends and make available to anyone
interested at WBMUTBB and figured it would be the Mayberry thing to do
to offer it to them as a resource for the game. Scott felt some (I
guess you can count hundreds as some) of the trivia can be used for the
game and I am glad they can because it was no extra effort on my part.

If you are interested in what Scott is working with, you too can download the
calendar files at

http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/craftscalendar.htm

Remember, if you use the calendar, it might take away from some of the fun of
the game because you'll know some of the answers!

On a personal note, I consider myself very fortunate to have friends who have
the same feelings for TAGS and share their talents like Wally's offers air
and water - "no charge" for things like:

- - WMBUTBB digest and web page that Allan maintains
- - "Them Timers Are Tricky" wav file webpage created by Ron "Emmett"
Blankenship
- - The largest collection of Andy Griffith Memorabilia at the Mount Airy
Visitors Center shared by one of our newest members (and the MAVC is a free
facility directed by fellow WBMUTBB member Ann Vaughn.)

It is with the same spirit so often displayed on TAGS that these folks share
what they can to make the world a little more like our hometown of Mayberry.
I don't like to be taken advantage of any more than the rest you, but when it
comes to Mayberry, some rewards are greater than materialistic things that
have been discussed on the digest. I hope the game makes money for the
entrepreneurs willing to take the risk to produce a game that may not sell
enough to cover their costs (there are two sides to the coin), but are able
to recognize the contributors in
some way.

That's just my measly little old 3 pennies worth.

I promised that I would not comment anymore about the trivia game, but I'm
about to bust a gusset to say this, so I will. With all of the brouhaha
about getting recognition and compensation, someone may decide not to
approach the club anymore for help on any future projects having to do with
The Andy Griffith Show. Now I will go and put the bucket on my head and
think of some good questions to submit to the game company.

It is generally thought that Opie Taylor was named after Opie Cates, a
prominent bandleader whom Andy Griffith admired. This was before my time,
understand, but I think Opie Cates may have worked on the old "Lum and
Abner" radio show.

"Opie" could be a nickname for "Opus," which means "work," as in a musical
composition (the word "opera" is actually the plural of "opus").

You mean you don't have any of Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbooks? Shame on you!
You'd better head over to Weaver's and buy all three.

|The "a-thon" is fabulous; we all ought to get hundreds of Q/A's for that game
now; I found out what show size Barney wears: 7 1/2 B . Got to hurry and get
back to the a-thon! I had a revelation while watching the early shows this
saturday morning. I Know why, (no matter how much I try, ) that I feel like
the color ones just "are not the same" to me! I grew up watching TAGS on its
ORIGINAL SHOWINGS all in black and white! We did not have a color tv
until I was watching the reruns on tbs. I even watched Mayberry RFD in black
and white! Now, I do not feel so badly.... it IS NOT THE SAME FOR ME! FORGIVE
this ozarker for giving you all the idea that the color ones were not as
good....they
are just NOT THE SAME (for me)AS I GREW UP ON! hey, from branson.

I wish I was a fly on the wall at that party. I had to pry
myself away from the marathon to head to the office today -
tomorrow too. There oughta be a law.

Hmmmm - off the top of my head - desserts or snacks, hmmm

I'd suggest=20
Rum Cake (don't tell Aunt Bee it's in the house)
Baked Alaska (you remember that new desert, right?)
Mr. Cookie Bars (afternoon pick-me-up)
=46inger Sandwiches (looks like somebody tore your food up in
itty-bitty pieces)
Pizza - Mozzeralla or Pepperelli (I just love pizza)
Meatballs (make sure they aren't dry as dust with breadcrumbs)
Pickles (Go wild with Allspice)
Groovy Potato Chips (for when Opie's Group starts playing)
Shrimp Cocktail (skip this, if you don't want to fill up)
Howard's Swinging Grilled Swiss Cheese Sandwiches (And Still they
Come!)
Apple pie sandwiches (Slice of pie, surrounded by two slices of
pie - ask Opie about this one ) Wash that down with a couple of
nickel milks.

More Sandwiches: Peanut Butter and Bologna, PB and Liverwurst,
or Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter. For the traditionalists -
there's always Peanut Butter and Jelly (No thanks, Leon)

Snails and Brains (You don't want to look like a plain hick,
right?)

I'm sure there's more - but I need to get back to work here.

How about some fried chicken and johnny cakes. I hear they are so good, the
foreigners send in spies to learn the recipe. Or how about a hollered out
tomato stuffed with avocado? If you are planning on running away from home,
you could fix peanut butter and sardine sammiches. Ham loaf and green beans
are always a good choice. For a snack, don't forget the homemade pickles!
And keep a few Mr. Cookie Bars around for later when you get that sinking
feeling.

If you are having guests, you could fix spaghetti, but be sure to use that
secret ingredient. If you plan on going to the porch later, take some
apples and try peeling them without breaking the peel. But the best bet is
to go for the pounded steak a la Morelli. And be sure to finish it all off
with homemade ice cream or some of Miss Roesmary's blueberry pie. It's
gooooooood!

You definitely passed the history test, so come up front and receive your
diploma. Lots of luck to you and yours.

Subject: Early Marriage for Aunt Bee

Re: Aunt Bee having an unhappy early marriage or engagement
I've posted a few times in the past how I noticed in several episodes
that Aunt Bee (who supposedly had never been married on TAGS, she was
always Miss Taylor, Andy's aunt) wore what looked like a wedding band
on her left hand ring finger. I even wrote to a couple of our writers
asking if they were interested in writing an episode featuring Aunt Bee and
I gave them my outline: that she had been engaged to a boy, but her mother
forbade the marriage. Bee and her guy were planning to
marry anyway, but he was killed before they had their chance, and this
caused a bitter strain between Bee and her mother. Andy's family really knew
little of this. It was only at Bee's death when the ring
was passed to Opie. The family was going through Aunt Bee's things and they
found another small diamond ring pinned to the inside of her bed jacket (the
one Andy gave
her, of course). They couldn't understand this ring and they started the
search for more information. This led to old love letters from a boy named
Jacob and a heartbreaking letter to Bee from her mother, and talks with old
relatives. And finally they found out what Aunt Bee had been
carrying inside her all those years.
They found that at Bee's mother's death, she had willed her most precious
jewel, her wedding band, to Bee along with a letter begging
Bee to forgive her. And Bee learned that forgiveness is not giving the
person what she deserves, but exactly the opposite--it's giving them
what they want and what we need for our own healing. It's letting go
our right to be angry or our right "to get even," even if everything
tells us we have it coming to us. We let go of it. Move on and heal.
Oh, gracious, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go on for so long. I just thought
it odd that that's the way I had in my mind as to why I always
sensed this sadness about Miss Frances, and now I read where she really did
have an unhappy marriage or engagement, although no one knows for sure if
this is the actual cause of her emotional problems
on the set.
I'll take a rest from the Digest. Promise.
"That's just how they act when they're pantin' after you." Mr. Darling
to his boys when he thought Aunt Bee was after him.
