Could the company list the chapter name and its city of anyone whose question they use? This would be a bit more definitive of who contributed and perhaps generate some interest in our organization, whose name and address (Jim's) would surely appear also. And could they assure they will research to make sure these are correct, not just print them on somebody's avid submission; after all, we all make mistakes, no one is an expert. And I still maintain that if a contribution is used, the contributor should get a free copy of the game. I worked at that Mayberry Reunion in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I would like to assure all members of WBMUTBB that every signature she has is AUTHENTIC. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations offered on e bay. These are the real thing. Of course being compared to Don Knotts must have been the worst, who could measure up. But I think if there had never been a Barney, Warren would have done ok. But, then again, if there had never been a Barney we probably wouldn't have a TAGS fan club at all. Your Mayberry Friend, Mary Foti ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 19:53:12 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [none] I guess everyone is truly different cuz I love the color episodes and have several favorites from them, especially The Rose. That one makes me cry every time I see it since it depicts true Christian friendship and sacrifice. As for Frances Bavier's sensitivity and emotional challenges, I believe I read somewhere that she had a very brief, unhappy marriage or engagement. Just think of the heartache she maybe endured her entire life; I feel so sorry for folks who don't have love in their life. Perhaps her role as Aunt Bee, a maiden aunt with no hubby or family of her own, mirrored her own life and was painful in some ways. Maybe Andy, in his comical way, had said something early in their relationship that she took the wrong way and could never get over till facing the Pearly Gates. In any case, I adored the character and try to feel empathy for Miss Bavier too. Let's get going on that game. I never saw the first one. Now, I just HAVE to have one!!! "hey", from Branson | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 20:57:11 -0600 From: "Gloria Bruce" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Opie's name I was doing some reading on the web today about heroes during the war of 1812, and came across the name of Oliver Hazard Perry. He was the one who made famous the saying "We have met the enemy, and they are ours". It seemed like a coincidence that his initials spell O H P or as I interpreted it Opie. Could this be where the name came from or am I reading too much into it or just reading too much? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 22:07:55 -0600 (CST) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Ellen Kuber) Subject: More on The Questions Yes, it would show a great "atta boy" attitude on OUR part if we were willing to submit questions for a trivia game just for the sheer fun of it. Wouldn't it be equally as nice for the people receiving our questions to say "thank you?" I'm not talking about receiving cash payment (which isn't so unusual for authors to receive...................) and I'm not even talking about receiving free merchandise. I'm talking about a tip of the hat, and a "Thank you kindly, neighbor!" for lending a helping hand. Yes, the questions will be written even if WE don't contribute them, but if we DO contribute them, they don't have to look for as many alternate sources. Is it so wrong to expect that business people be appreciative? What's it going to cost them -- a half a page of tiny print on a game enclosure? We're "big enough" to do something out of our love for a favorite classic show. They should be "big enough" to acknowledge something done for their benefit. I'll tell you something: I own a business with my husband, and if someone did something for us to save us time, energy and money, we would find a meaningful way to show our appreciation. What do some of you business people think? Am I being the Mayberry Grinch or what? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 00:19:29 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Opie's name In a message dated 3/23/00 8:57:45 PM Central Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << It seemed like a coincidence that his initials spell O H P or as I interpreted it Opie. Ha ha...You can look at the "Mayberry FAQs" and the answer about how Opie got his name is there. You've been reading them "Learn-a-month" magazines again, ain't ya? In respect to the TV Land special, would someone who taped it be willing to send me a copy of it? I would be happy to pay for your time and postage & tape (please email me directly if you can help me). I would have watched it, but my hubby won't let me have cable 'cause he says then he'd never get me out of the house! I love vintage TV but TAGS will always be my fave. Goober says hey! Your on really on the ball as usual. Second I have also heard along time about Francais and Andy I don't think it was as serious as some comments made it sound. People are just diffrent. She was older and not "one of the Boys". They were both Professionals. It was't atleast I hope, a constant fighting. They are mant worse stories on other shows. After writing this I see it might be easier to break rule number 2 then I thoght. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 15:20:42 GMT From: "Harriet Browder" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Not enough Mayberry Allen's line in a recent Digest: There can NEVER be too much Mayberry in this world. - WHAT A STATEMENT!
