To All of You Who Love The "Andy Griffith Show" ............ I have just had a relaxing weekend, literally glued to my television set. In my state of New Jersey, I enjoyed the A.G. Marathon that was on TV Land all weekend. Heaven!! I knew it was coming and I lined up all the chores I could do while watching it, and not be distracted. Jobs like housework, dishes, cooking, baking, straightening up, looking thru old papers and magazines before I threw them out, laundry, ironing etc. You get my drift. The "no-brainer" jobs that pile up and you like to be entertained while doing them. I was so hooked that I arranged my trips to the bathroom and out to the mailbox, only during commercials. I didn't want to miss a beat. As if I hadn't seen the shows enough already thru the years!! To say I enjoyed it, is an understatement, but what I really liked was the hour-long review of the entire sho! w series and interviews with all the people who were ever involved. I learned things I didn't know and never heard before. What an eye-opener! The shocker of all was, that there is an "Andy Griffith Fan Club", (with 1100 chapters no less) and a membership of 20,000 fans!! And a 4 day reunion every year in Mt. Airy, N.C. ( Andy's hometown) where people gather and share memories and common interests. A place where all kinds of memorabilia is displayed and exchanged. How wonderful! I don't have a computer, but went to a friend's house where we tried to find out if we could get onto the Internet or possibly an Andy GriffithWebsite. You can imagine how thrilled I was to find out we could!! I couldn't believe the information available and we even played the game "Miss Crump's Quiz." We signed up to become a member of the fan club, and now are waiting to hear from someone. Today, we gathered up and printed many letters and comments from those who wrote something on the Inte! rnet. My story is this: I absolutely LOVE The Andy Griffith Show and especially Barney Fife. I love all the players and cast members, the setting, the town of Mayberry, the story line, the wholesome down-to-earth good scripts, the comedy, and the side-splitting humor along with the good moral plot it always seems to have. I can easily picture myself sitting on the Taylor's front porch, eating homemade ice cream and listening to Andy and Barney singing and harmonizing with the guitar. I get such a warm and fuzzy feeling when I watch that show. It cheers me up, brightens my day and gives me something nice and enjoyable to look forward to everyday. Call me corny, but it's often the highlight of my day. I enjoy it that much. I've got to be "the biggest fan in NJ" I'd love to chat with others who feel as I do. It's nice to share common interests and prior to this weekend, I didn't know that there were so many other fans out there. My friend said I could receive E-mail on his c! omputer, so I'd love to hear from some of you New Jersey locals about your comments about TAGS and how it has affected your life. Who knows, maybe someday we could all get together for our own local "Andy and Barney Fan Club Reunion" and all come dressed as our favorite character from our favorite show. Say now, there's an idea. Shazaam!! Be in touch at this personal E-mail address. Wasn't it a dream come true....to actually see those parts of the shows that had been whacked onto the cutting room floor all in the name of "insert the fifteenth commercial here". Boy, when you look back, there were handsfull of great family shows on CBS. I cut my "tv-teeth" on that network! Remember when the CBS network affiliate stations (local stations) used to show that seal of approval that stated that the shows on that channel passed with quality, family programs? I do. We did not get tv in arkansas (pine bluff) until the 1950's.I heard 1954. Any body else remember that seal of approval and growing up on CBS? The A-thon was a real success. I have not laughed and smiled so much in many, many years; probably since I was a kid cutting those tv-teeth! ha. Jim The original closing credits were replaced because they included pictures of General Foods products in the lower right corner of the screen (usually Post cereal, Jell-O, or Sanka). Once the show entered syndication, GF was no longer the sponsor so they couldn't very well use those credits anymore. For you young folks, when TAGS was originally aired, it was common practice for a series to have a single sponsor. Every commerical seen during a show would be for products made by that sponsor. Sometimes the sponsor would even by part of the show's title (as in "The Dinah Shore Chevy Show.") - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 00:06:18 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #95 Last weekend of the fandemonium marathon was...BIG ! REALLY BIG ! I truly was in hog heaven. This was the best TAGS marathon ever! I remembered every episode I watched. It was a great weekend, it felt as though I came home to visit. "Crank out the blue suit, put a Windsor knot in the ol' striper tie and take in one of them rabbit-girl clubs. Va, Va Va, VOOM!" Barney musta had some times when he really cut loose. You know, when he had that corner room down at the "Y". Could be a "stiper tie" is just a little too much for Mayberry. More of a big city thing, ya know. Makes ya thank! Once when we were in Savannah after TBS had stopped showing it, we viewed an episode on one of their local channels and felt like we were visiting home! You'd think we'd found gold but then I guess we did. Aunt Bee of Orlando ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 07:31:30 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Numbering the episodes In the Spignesi book, he has a comprehensive list that gives both the filmed# and the broadcast# and the original air date, which is most helpful. I number the episodes on my tapes with the air date as I feel this is the most important. Apparently TVLand does too. I was disappointed that they didn't keep them in order near the end and only had a few color ones. I don't understand why they felt it necessary to re-air the Inside special 3 times either; that meant the loss of 6 more episodes. Otherwise it was fun to keep the TV on nothing but Mayberry for 48 hours!! I am sure it will be great fun and I am looking ofrward to it. If any one is interested, speak up. Once again, to Allan, thanks for all of the work on the Bulletin Board!
