Greetings; I'm wondering if anyone has addresses for Betty Lynn and Don
Knotts...or at least sources of contact.
>

Betty Lynn's telephone number has always been listed (at least, it still was
last time I checked). Call information for Los Angeles, or check one of the
numerous directories on the web.

Don Knotts makes several personal appearances each year (see Floyd's
Barbershop Bulletin Board in The Bullet). If you can't make it to any of
those listed, and if you don't mind waiting a few months, try writing to him
in care of The New Theatre in Overland Park, KS. He'll be there next year
from February 8th through April 15th. If you write to him during those
dates, he should get your letter. He can't possibly answer every letter he
receives, but who knows, he MIGHT write back.

As usual, I enjoyed this issue of the Digest. Thanks, D.D. (L.L.H.) for your
comments about Briscoe. He really was great! And I like repetitiveness. This
can be attested to by anyone who knows me and my love of "TAGS" reruns. I am
glad to know that someone else appreciates the humor of the Darlings. In my
years of devotion to the show, I haven't seen enough fans of this hilarious
mountain family to suit me. It could be the bluegrass they play, but I think
it's moreso that some folks don't quite understand the language and ways of
true hill people, so they miss the humor.
Also, I'd like to correct my quote to read correctly. I'm sure many of you
caught my blunder but were too nice to correct me. It should have read,"I can
take some manners, and I can take some cleanin' up, and I can take a bossy
mouth, but I ain't about to be beat to death with no spoon! But, obviously I
conveyed the idea!
Love to all you fans out there! Let's keep on keeping "TAGS" alive!!!

I saw an interview about a month ago. Andy and Don said Frances Bavier was
likeable, she was just aloof. But before she died, she called Andy one night
and apologized for her behavior. She told him she just wanted to tell him and
ask for forgiveness. Andy told her that was no problem. She died days later.

Hey To All!
It was a unsettling to hear that Francis Bavier had a "love/hate
relationship" (quoted from the TVLand special) with Andy. I wouldn't have
been able to tell it between the characters until I heard it from Andy's own
voice on the special....guess that can be accredited to the good
professionalism of the actors/actresses! I was very pleased when further
into the special Andy stated that Francis called him during her illness to
make amends for their ruffled relationship and the two were able to make
peace before Ms. Bavier passed away.

As for hearing of the Penney Marshall/Cindy Williams and the Bea Arthur/Betty
White relationships..well I know they say show business is a harsh business
to be in. Maybe as unfortunate as it is that relationships have to be like
this, it helps their characters to feed off one another?? I read somewhere
that Hugh Beaumont (Mr. Cleaver...the Beave's dad) was hard to work with
especially when the cameras stopped rolling.

I hope all who have these type relationships can take heed from the Andy and
Francis relationship and the making of peace to be able to do it in their
lives. It is MUCH better to live in peace than to live among the ruffles and
feathers! A stress free as keeping the Sunday motto of living life
peacefully and quietly on the day!

Gosh, I hate to admit it, but I can't remember where the line, "Giraffes are
so selfish" comes from! Please enlighten me! I was so upset, I went out and
sprained by petula oblongato! (still don't know how to spell it, though). :)

I agree that Ron HOward is the only one who could really do justice to a
Mayberry movie. I heard that when they did the Return to Mayberry tv-movie,
he was very polite to Andy, still calling him "Mr. Griffith." And he had
already made "Cocoon". Class will always tell, won't it? :)

The medula oblangata is in the brain.

Wow - I hadn't thought about that but it does give a person pause. That's
the only way I'd go see a Mayberry movie - if Opie ran the show.

On another subject - all the talk about Briscoe delivering his lines with a
straight face. It makes a person wonder how many times they had to retake a
scene because of the actors busting up over a line. I sure couldn't deliver
those lines with a straight face. Whenever someone asks me for something and
I know I don't have it I always respond with "Ain't you got a jack?" And I
haven't yet been able to say it without cracking up completely. It leaves
everyone staring at me like I was crazy! Ain't it a shame? Ain't it a shame?

Laura Lee - you just keep watchin' for gold trucks and sending
out those Briscoe quotes - you're doing the whole town a great
service.

Here's another goodun with Brisoe and Aunt Bee that I like.
Again, his delivery does it all:

An excellent suggestion Mike. Maybe the folks here on
the digest could help get that ball rolling. I agree
that Ron Howard probably would not accept the
challenge but he is the only one I would trust with
that challenge.
