The Dillards were signed to Elektra (1962 - 1970). The song (the group
version) is on the 1964 album "Live!!! Almost!!!" (the cover has 3
standing,1 in casket....). Supposedly the need for them to be in the color
shows (one color episode only) might have made Doug Dillard leave. I believe
that is Herb Pedersen in that color one. Griffith got them signed to Capitol
in '66, where they supposedly cut some singles (and recycled material).
Maybe this version got released there?
PS - You might want to get the compilation "There Is a Time" (covering the
Elektra material). All the original albums are out of print!

The episodes running on TVland currently have the announcer
voicing in with "Also starring Don Knotts and Elinore Donahue"
right with the opening rock-throwing credits. She's not listed
in the end credits? I'll have to look.

Now I've been studyin' on this a while and I've decided that
iff'n I were the high sheriff, I'd have let that pharmacy gal
catch me, desperate hunter status notwithstanding. She sure is
pretty. Makes good faces too!

We named the English Springer Spaniel pup that we recently
rescued from the Humane Society "Miss Ellie" and she's a PHG too.
That would stand for "pretty hairy gal" in this case.

Speaking of girlfriends - I loved seeing the first appearance of
Barney's sweetheart Hilda Mae in the "Ellie for Council" episode
earlier this week. The best line of the show? Of course it is
Barney to Hilda Mae when they are about to take a "walk down by
the lake" at the picnic. =20

As first-time parents, my husband and I are always discussing what we
should do about this or that in raising our daughter. Since we are both
TAGS fans, we often tell each other that all the parenting experts are in
favor of "bud-nipping." I was wondering if anyone could tell me the exact
line that Barney uses when he tells Andy that. I'd really appreciate it.

All this talk about "Giraffes are selfish" has gotten me to dabbling a little
in Photoshop and I have made a cute 800x600 desktop wallpaper. If anyone
wants to see it, you can see a small representation of it at <A

need a smaller (640x480) version, let me know.

I believe the episode you're thinking of is "The Darling Fortune" -
it was a color episode where the boys are trying to court Helen.

In regards to a new Mayberry movie: why not use the original actors =E2=80=
=94 at=20
their ages in 1960-1968?
Soon technology will allow creative people to use actors's images in new=20
scenes. The John Wayne Coors commercials and Fred Astaire dancing vacuum=20
commercials already do so.
Why not make new Andy episodes with those "actors." Perhaps Mr. Griffith=20
could supervise the scripts to maintain high quality? Maybe some new comic=20
adventures could be created.
You never know when the new electronal marvels will appear. Perhaps the=20
shows would be funnier with bigger wires.

(NOTE FROM ALLAN: This is the BEST idea for a movie I've heard so far!!!=20
Wow...the original actors could even provide the voices. Those that have=20
passed away could have folks that sound like them do their parts and Andy=20
would still be the controling factor!!! Wow!!! Great idea Tom!!!)

Subject: Giraffes

Hello,
Yesterday, my husband and I were watching America's Funniest Home Videos.
Not a show I like but my husband does. Anyway, they had one scene at a zoo.
A rhinoceros had wondered into the pen of a giraffe and the giraffe ran up
and started bumping the rhino out of his pen. Butting him with his head and
backside until the rhino went over a short rock wall back into his own pen.
The only thing I could say was, "Boy, giraffes are selfish." Barney proved
right again.
Thanks,
Maria

I've wondered why Miss Ellie is not acknowledged in the credits for the
show. I know Mr. Burt gets a plug for her wardrobe, but other than
that, nothing.Do I vaguely remember the announcer during the original run
mentioning her name?
Rick......"Soap?"
>>>

Originally, in her earliest episodes, she received third billing in the
opening credits, BEFORE Don Knotts. When the series was created, the
character of Ellie Walker was considered more important than Barney Fife,
who was added to the show as a mere afterthought. Later, as the episodes
began more and more to feature Barney Fife, they moved her name to the
closing credits.

Hey Friends,

I hate to hear the unpleasant side of the Andy Show. I hated to hear Helen
died in real life, and the difficulty with Auny Bee and Andy. Am glad it
was cleared up.

I've always seen Johnny Coons sitting in the crowd at the Miss Mayberry

Hey, it's been a while since I've written, but I just had to tell one of my
favorite lines. I saw it the other night when I was going through my tapes
of tags. "Goober and the Art of Love" When everyone is at Helen's house
and telling each other how good they look, Andy leans over to goober and
says------"Your hair's Drippin"! This is great!

The question was "What is a Ritz Cracker?"
The answer was "Andy Griffith said that everything is better when it
sits on this." Just goes to show ya, that like Elvis, Andy is
