heres some trivia for ya!!! does anyone else remember on the TAGS where Barney
Fife is newly introduced....he refers to Andy as"Cousin Andy." i guess there
was a
time when the producers were going to have Andy and Barney be related. then
they
must have thought better of it and changed their minds. i personally much
prefer the
change to Andy and Barney being lifelong friends, as opposed to
cousins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is just one of those strange things that sticks in your brain, and im
just wonderin
what other peeps thinks????????

reading the digest for a while, but I can't stand it any longer. Who the
heck is Johnny Coons? ...and why is everyone looking for him?
Sweetly Disposed<<

Dear disposed

I struggled with the same mystery when I first joined, so I'm happy to
share.
Johnny Koons is an Extra that appears in many episodes as various
passer's-by etc.
One memorable scene is when Barney breaks out of the bank with the dress on,
and begins taking off the dress on the street. As Johhny stares at him
Barney says "What's-a-matter?
haven't you ever seen a man take off a dress before? Koons often has on a
white hat.
My favorite Extra is Joe Hamiliton. Another guy that wears a white hat
alot. Joe is next to Gomer in many scenes including Citizens Arrest, when
he is Gomer's biggest backer.
Joe once makes fun of Barney, sticking his head in the courthouse to report
a theft....
then he says "Somebody stole a base...down at the baseball field"

My daughter and I just saw Jim Nabors on Robert Schuller's religious
program.
He talked about his gospel CDs that he made after 20 years since his last
record. My daughter couldn't believe it was him and then he said his
memorable Go-ol-ley. As he then sang a number from the CD, she said "I
didn't know he could sing!" I laughed and thought...neither did John
Masters! Jim spoke of how his faith grew during his illness and liver
transplant. He said he couldn't preach about it, so he chose to put
together the CDs to share the gospel. (OK I'm not preachin here, I'm just
quotin' Gomer). He looked good and will soon be 70. He's still got dark
hair, but I don't know if its "dark right out of a bottle" Nice poem
there is yesterday's Digest also.

I sent a picture to Andy Griffith over a year age along with a return mailer
and postage...with no response. The only time I've had this happen out of
maybe 10 requests to various people over the years. My wife and I have
gotten quite a few of the cast members and were naturally wanting to add
Andy's signed photo. I hesitate to purchase a signed photo of Andy on ebay
as I am aware of how prevalent forgery is. I have written a couple of
articles about how to identify Roy Rogers signature (after many years of
research) and have found that at least 75% of the ones being offered are not
real...either the work of his secretary, or an out and out forgery by the
seller...many with hundreds of positive feedback entries. If any one knows
how to get one, I, too will be waiting to hear.

While I love TAGS and it is my favoite show, I must defend my Monkees! I
have been a Monkees fan since the age of 7 and the first episode. I have
been written up in trades as having the 3rd largest Monkee memoribila
collection this side of the Mississippi. Those of you out there who know
me, know that I have actually cheffed for Davy Jones! Well, I feel that
their Emmy was well deserved; it was at a time where the voice of youth
was getting louder and it was new and fresh. Now don't get me wong..Andy
was still on top of the ratings and for good reason...it was and is just
great classic storytelling. But think about it...the Monkees were the
fathers of the music video and they were quite ahead of there time...MTV
didnt hit the scene until 1980! And NBC did an amazing think...they took
4 young men who had never met, cast them in a TV show about a band and
then they actually became one. Yes they could and did at times, play
their own instruments, but like a lot of bands used studio musicians on
their records. The fact that they became a legitament band is like
Lenard Nimoy actually becoming a Vulcan! :-)
So where as Andy has never been out of syndication in 39 years and I
would be the first to admit that the Monkees' show comes over very
dated, TAGS is by far the clear winner between the two. But the Monkees
had there place and the judges in 1967 saw that; even if they did visit
the Baldwin Sisterson the way to the event. But I really dont see
how.... the Baldwins were from the Waltons and that show hadn't
premiered yet!!!

Glad to see my old friend Karen Bice, Karen - how are you by the way -
we are doing fine - loves Maggie Petersen's rendition of "There Is A
Time" too. I absolutely love this song. I also have been unable to
find it on an album. I'm only heard it on TAGS and I simply love that
song. It is so lovely. I do have a Dillard's CD I got from TAGSRWC,
but that has a male singing it and it is not as nearly a good
rendition. I wish so much that Maggie'd been on that cut. I think this
song is one of the lovliest I've ever heard.

Howdy,

I was wondering if any of you have tried getting autographs
from Andy Griffith. I've heard that he does not participate
in TAGS conventions and such; I'm an avid collector of autos
through the mail, but I don't want to waste time trying to
get one from him if he doesn't respond. Anyone had some luck
here? Thanks, -Andrew

and a picture of Mayberry Deputy Sheriff Bernard P. Fife!! In 1967,
Don Knotts won his fifth emmy and Frances Bavier won her first.

The most shocking revelation in the article was that even against
such competition as Hogan's Heroes, Bewitched, Get Smart, and
TAGS, the Outstanding Comedy Series emmy went to The Monkees!?
Maybe the judges stopped by to visit the Baldwin sisters before
voting!

trouble, the new kid breaks
a street lamp with an apple, and in the end Opie stands up to the bully.

This is from memory, so I might have missed one or two words here and there:

A: You been at the magazine section of the Sunday paper again?

B: I skimmed through it.

A: And on the subject of child-rearin', it said...?

B: There's a definite trend toward stronger discpline.

A: Like what?

B: Like a good clout once in a while!

A: Aw, come on, Barn.

B: You go read any book you want on the subject of child discipline, and
you'll find that every one of them is in favor of bud-nippin'!

Subject: TAGS quotes

I've enjoyed the favorite TAGS quotes folks have been sending in. I
recently watched my video of episode #137 ("Goodbye Sheriff Taylor") in
which Barney throws a tomato at Otis to test his reflexes. Embarrassed and
frustrated at Otis's repeated comments about the tomato covering his shirt,
Barney says (in a way that only Barney can), "I think I've heard just about
enough about that tomato!" I love the way he says it!

Another note about that episode -- Have you noticed that as the camera cuts
back and forth to Otis, in some shots there's only a little tomato on his
shirt, but in other shots there's a lot more? I guess as they did different
takes of the scene, more tomato was added to Otis's shirt for effect, but
the different shots don't match up!

A few months ago, a TAGS friend and I were discussing all the old episodes. i
have quite a collection of Christmas specials from movies, sitcoms, specials,
cartoons, etc. I started doing a little research and discovered that in the 8
years of TAGS, there was only one Christmas episode. After the research, I
discovered that in those days, it wasn't always done as they thought reruns
wouldn't be so great if they showed a Christmas show in June. Also, lots os
shows were pre-empted in those days for other Christmas specials: Fred
Astaire, Perry Come, Bing Crosby, etc.

Subject: MY Dream

When we think of going to heaven
A street of gold is what comes to mind
But to walk through the town of Mayberry for just one day
Is what I would love to find.

First I'd stop by the courthouse
Of course, Otis, He's in jail.
Barn and Ange are out front on the bench
So I'd stop and sit with them a spell.

Floyd would sit and join us
Talk about the weather, it's hot, it's 92.
Then he'd tell us that Calvin Coolidge said that
And Andy'd smile and say,"Yeah Floyd, that's true."

We'd all go over to the barbershop
To watch Floyd cut some hair.
Watch Judd play a game of checkers
And see if that lady manicurist might show up there.

We'd walk over to the bank
To check the security there.
Everything looks perfectly normal,
See, there's Asa asleep in his chair.

We'd go over to Foley's marker
He gave us any fruit we chose.
And if he wasn't very busy
He might even tell us about that famous punch in the nose.

We'd go over to Wally's filling station
Goober would be there--not making a fuss.
We'd get us a good ole bottle of pop,
High octaine ethyl, no just a nectarine crush.

It'd be getting long about supper time
We'd go over to see Aunt Bee.
Some good fried chicken and gravy,
And hey, save some apple pie for me.

We'd sit on the porch after supper
Andy would say "Peel an apple?" Sure I'll try my luck
And Hey!, There's Brisco, Charlene, and the boys
There're all getting off the truck.

There's picking and singing,
Andy jumps in and hangs on.
It's "Ebo Walker", "Doug's Tune",
And of course, Charlene sings that love song.

They get back on the truck,
I'm thinking, "What more can there be?"
Then I heard a shrill voice say,
"It's me, It's me, It's Ernest T!"

My dream of the real Mayberry
I guess the good Lord has His ways.
Because I felt all the love from that small town
In Mt. Airy, during Mayberry Days.

The love and friendship that's shared by all
Is what life means to me.
I anticipate seeing you all each year
To walk the streets of Mayberry!

Hope my fellow Mayberry fans enjoy this poem.

I apologize for sending this application to you 4 times but my computer was
misbehaving tonight.
I am thrilled to find a place where others are as passionate about "TAGS" as
I am.
I was born and raised in western Limestone County in a place called Pleasant
Valley. I didn't move far from there when I got married and still go back
there from time to time.
I am married to a great guy even though he "ain't from around here". He's a
transplanted Northerner. When I got him I had to teach him how to talk right.
He still eats way too Northern to suit me but I guess you can't have
everything. No, really, he's the greatest!! We have 1 daughter and she has
been watching "TAGS" since she was born but will probably never be the fan
her mom is.(But I will keep trying.)
Brian (my husband) and I have been married for 18 years and are still like
newly weds. Life has dealt us some hard blows at times but we've pulled each
other through and are still going strong! We both have full-time jobs but we
work out when we get home in the evenings. In our weight room we have the
life-sized poster of Barney Fife, the tin signs, some "TAGS" bumper stickers
and some other "TAGS" stuff. I must confess though that I did the
decorating...Brian just isn't as big a fan as I am! One of our work out
partners is, though and he and I do some dialog from the show every time we
get together. "TAGS" is so much a part of my happy life...I know I wouldn't
be the same without it!! Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of your
WBMUTBB Chapter.

There is very little on TV now that is suitable for all ages and
entertaining. The Andy Griffith show is a rare blend of well done humor and
entertainment that does not offend. I have 3 children and they don't watch
the new sitcoms, but they will grow up on this.

I am a wife and mom who lives in the Mountain Brook area and work as a Law
Librarian for a Christian law firm in Birmingham. One of my bosses told me
about TAGS and I have been hooked ever since! Just as others who grew up in
the Mayberry era, I long for the "old days" when people appreciated a jar of
homemade pickles more than crock of filth. Thank you for adding a touch of
decency to the otherwise, often indecent internet. Sincerely, Elizabeth
