I had to tell the gang about this one. My parents recently went on a trip.
They were driving west on I-40 and crossed the Mississippi river from Memphis
into Arkansas. They stopped at a rest stop and were approached by a man and
woman who asked them if they would agree to accompany them into West Memphis,
Ark. and be their guests of honor at the town celebration of national tourism
day. Well, they agreed, and it was just like the TAGS episode. They were
given a police escort into town to a park where their "fat little mayor" gave
them a key to the city, they were given gifts by the merchants, a free night
in the hotel, etc. My father pointed out the similarities to the deputy who
escorted them, and he said that he was familiar with the episode and "just
don't call me Barney". When my father left the podium, he told the mayor that
they had better check to see if they still had their watches. My folks said
that it was really neat. I just had to share this.
"Everything is OK in Mayberry".

I have a TAGS-related question. When you are thirsty, do you have a "pop" or
do you have a "soda"? Of course, we know what Gomer always offered at his
filling station. We always called it "pop" too - grew up in a small town in
Illinois. But when I married my ex-husband, (he was from Peoria) he laughed
at "pop" and insisted that "soda" was correct. He also laughed at my
penchant for watching TAGS. I had to become a closet TATS watcher.

I'm not saying that was why our marriage ended, but ... it might have
contributed. :)

I was writing in subject to the letter Cody Vandever wrote
wanting to know the episode of Andy Griffith that Charlene sang "There is a
Time". I don't know the name of the episode but I have it taped. It is the
one when Charlene's father said that Opie and the baby were betrolled or
pledged to each other when grown. They are at Andy's house in the episode and
he asked them to sing and play .Charlene sang the song and they signed the
pledge with a pen that has ink that later disappears. Hope I helped you .
 Thanks Doug Wilson

Heard a quote on the show tonight that still slays me whenever I hear
it. Barney believes that Andy has stolen away Thelma Lou so he gets all
gussied up to try to steal away Ellie. When Ellie rejects Barney's pass
he says "I feel sorry for you baby! You had the chance to fly with me
but you weren't woman enough! Now the balloon's went up without you!"
What a hoot!!! And the way he has that huge spit-curl on his forehead
just cracks me up!

That reminds me of the Ritz ad where Andy and a friend
were watching a football game and the friend had
stacked a lot of goodies on. Andy told him, "There's
a 15-yard penalty for piling on."

I also seem to recall Andy doing a Kraft cheese ad
where he's at the ole' fishin hole.

<heres some trivia for ya!!! does anyone else remember on the TAGS where
Barney
Fife is newly introduced....he refers to Andy as"Cousin Andy." i guess
there
was a
time when the producers were going to have Andy and Barney be related. then
they
must have thought better of it and changed their minds. i personally much
prefer the
change to Andy and Barney being lifelong friends, as opposed to
cousins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is just one of those strange things that sticks in your brain, and im
just wonderin
what other peeps thinks????????
later my fellow Mayberrites............BraNDoN>

There was another episode when Andy called Barney his cousin but I can't
remember
the episode name. So I always assumed they were cousins who happened to be
best friends.

Poovey - Don't Monkee around with us. That's really cool to have such a
large memoribilia collection of ANYTHING. I'm pretty pround of my TAGS
collection but nobody's "written me up" or anything. I do know that I've
spent more money on TAGS stuff that the furnishings in my home (we have
orange crates and they suffice). I love the Monkees music and really enjoyed
their shows in their time and occasionally see re-runs but, I have to agree
wholeheartedly that TAGS is the best show EVER on TV - past, present, and
future. There I said it and I ain't takin' it back. At this very moment I'm
watching "Goober and the Art of Love" and it's before breakfast !!

That is the very first episode (Not counting the pilot episode on "The Danny
Thomas Show") The episode where Aunt Bee comes to live with Andy and Opie.

I beg to differ- while I love Maggie's version I also love the one on the
Dillard's CD. I think it is every bit as good a rendition- but I admit that
they are totally different- both the pace of the song and the attitude of the
singer differ. It's fun to imagine what "There is a Time" would have sounded
like sung by other cast members- Especially Rafe Hollister and Gomer- and
let's not forget Booby Fleet and His Band with a Beat- with Jim singing lead
vocals of course!

Well Dan Goodwin was my Checkpoint chickie on my post yesterday about
favorite Extra actors Johnny Koons and Joe Hamilton. I botched the baseball
line. In episode 16, Andy saves Barney's Morale, Barney had been arresting
people for very minor offenses...like disturbing the peace and loitering.
Joe's character sticks his head in the door and says to Barney "There's
been a hit and run" Barney, quickly asks "where?" to which he answers
"Down to the baseball field"...and then cracks up laughing.
I reported it yesterday as a stolen base...so I guess that's one run...and
one error (on me)
Here's an idea (if someone hasn't done this already) How 'bout one of
you folks with Net-tv and your own website capture a
picture of Johnny and also Joe..amy be Mt Schwamp and post them on a
website, where the newcomers can view them.
...sort of a who's who of extras. I know of one really "Groovy" Website
that it would be great to post these on. (hint hint)..but
I don't want to be to Poovey...I mean pushy.
