Hiya, fellow Mayberrites! We love the episode about the gold truck coming through Mayberry, especially the scene in which the truck finally arrives - "Mayberry Welcomes Gold Truck"... and Regis! "Go back to the woods, Regis!" "You're just trying to make trouble, Regis!" But, what is it Regis says? "Barbarians! Worshippers of ____" ??? My daughter and I are forever needing that line and we're not sure we understand what Regis says there. Is it "Satan"? It sounds more like "Amon," in which case he's accusing the good citizens of Mayberry of worshipping the Egyptian sun god. Some days, I favor "Salmon," although it seems much more likely that Mayberrites would have worshipped trout or catfish. Maybe Regis was a Carp. Oh, they're pushy those Carp ... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 07:41:27 -0500 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: two Floyds >>>I don't think the first Floyd's last name was ever mentioned. He was in the episode 'Stranger in Town" and was played by Walter Baldwin. The only time I remember "Colby" being used is in "Mayberry Goes Hollywood" when Floyd changed the name of his shop to 'Colby's Tonsorial Parlor' and he was played in that episode by Howard McNear. >>> That's exactly right. Somehow, many people seem to think that the first Floyd's last name was Colby; however, there is no evidence in the episodes to prove this theory. True, in Howard McNear's first episode (Mayberry Goes Hollywood) the barber shop window reads "Colby's Tonsorial Parlor," but before that point in the series, the "real" Floyd didn't have a last name either! Sometimes, when a new character was introduced, s/he had only a first name, or only a last name. Examples are Mayor Pike, who had no name at all until episode 13 (before that he was simply called "Mayor") and Helen Crump, who was just plain Miss Crump in her first episode (86). She wasn't called Helen until episode 92. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 05:58:13 PDT From: "BILL DUNHAM" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: cyber barney How about "fly Killin" Bill Dunham "TWJPTTSM" Chapter ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 09:04:06 +0200 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Kenneth G. Anderson) Subject: Mayberry in Novels Just finished the novel "Nathan's Run". There were two references to Mayberry in it. In one part of the novel a deputy sheriff makes a major mistake while investigating a crime. He was being reprimended and he made the comment about everyone makes mistakes. And his superior said, "Yes, so did Barney Fife". Later they had arrested a person and put him in a special cell that was usually used for the drunks. As they were putting the prisoner in, the officer said, "This is a special cell, we call it Mayberry." I am always amazed as how many references there are to TAGS when I read various novels. And most of these books were written within the past few years. Thelma Lou's office. 2. Clara Edwards house. 3. Johnny Paul Jason's house. 4. The school house - you see Miss Crump's classoom but not the school. 5. The newspaper office. (Return to Mayberry doesn't count) 6. The ticket counter at the movie house. You see the theater from a distance but not the ticket counter or inside the theater. 7. Floyd's home. 8. Where Goober lived. Gomer lived in the back of Wallys but not Goober. 9. Aunt Bee's bedroom. (Andy's room that they decorated doesn't count.) Places never mentioned: 1. Firehouse or firestation 2. Hardware store. (I guess Weaver's was the everything store.) 3. Book store 4. Florist 5. Pizzaria (pizza was mentioned but never delivered) 6. Watch repair shop 7. Shoe repair shop 8. Telemarketing. Ha! Gotcha....can you imagine what telemarketing would be like without dial phones? 9. A real restaurant - not a cafe, or diner Can anyone add to these lists? Get out the buckets! Now I know that Opie seen him and Andy seen him, but along with Barney, we never seen him. Also, for those who were at Neal Brower's lecture @ MD98(maybe 99). There was a commercial in which Blackey appeared with Andy, Opie, & Barney. But he never appeared in an episode. ===== <a href ="http://www.geocities.com/southbeach/3250/darlings.html>The Darling's Tribute Page</a> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Floyd (whatever his last name was) looked pretty snazzy with his new do too. So, Howard McNear was originally Floyd Colby. When it was changed to Lawson, I don't know.
