Anderson) Subject: Unmentioned Places I do believe the hardware store was mentioned in the episode where Aesop's gun fell apart. Barney told him, "The hardware store is just around the corner." Also Helen and Andy were in the jewelry shop buying a bracelet for Helen's niece, so that would be where watches would have been repaired. At least they were in all the small towns where I lived over the years. Not sure if this counts regarding the firestation, but old Jud and Goober discussed the big accident involving the firetruck, and when Jewbel's barn burned down Andy asked why they hadn't called the volunteer fire brigade. Also, would Merelli's count as a bonifide restaraunt? "You know they'll let you take a bottle in there." Ken "One thing about gypsies. They're awful moody." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 10:20:07 -0400 From: Jeff Krentz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Places never mentioned On Mon, 12 Jun 2000 20:11:37 -0600 (MDT), you wrote: >Places never mentioned: >1. I don't have my textbooks with me, so these are from my limited memory today. 1. Fireshouse: Didn't Aunt Bee make mention of a boiled dinner down to the firehouse with "cribbage after" as a suggestion for an evening's entertainment for Andy? 2. Hardware Store: Was there not going to be a sale on "legs" at the hardware store when the boys were talking during Barbara Eden's visit to the friendly town of Mayberry. (That's a useful item) 4. Florist: Perhaps not mentioned explicitly, but I'd assume that's what Gomer was in search of when he set out to correct the "unadorned" state of Thelma Lou's cousin prior to the dance. The actress who played Romina (Ernest T. Bass's girlfriend/wife) played a sales girl in the department store and the actor who played John MacMasters (choir director) played the store manager. It was neat to see them. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 10:44:40 -0500 From: Allan Newsome <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Press Release for Squad Car/Military Rendezvous FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Bob Scheib (937) 473-5606 "M*A*S*H" and "Gomer Pyle" Stars Shine at Military Rendezvous 2000! Jamie Farr and Barbara Stuart to greet fans COVINGTON, OHIO, June 15, 2000-For six years, visitors from 25 states knew the Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous as a highly successful annual rite of summer. Then hosts Bob Scheib and family took a year's break. While doing so, they joined forces with friends Kenny and Anna Adams to organize Military Rendezvous 2000, to be held at a new location, the 175-acre Poverty Knob Tree Farm, in Covington, Ohio, on July 1 and 2. The Rendezvous event is now two full days of entertainment and is an official fund-raiser for the National World War II Memorial. The event also still has a strong Mayberry flavor in that attending stars Jamie Farr (best known as Corporal Klinger on "M*A*S*H") and Barbara Stuart (best known as Miss Bunny Olsen, Sgt. Carter's girlfriend, on "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.") both were also on "The Andy Griffith Show." In addition to Mayberry squad car replicas from several states, nationally known Floyd the Barber impersonator Allan Newsome will be on hand. There also will be a designated area around a well-stocked pond on the large farm for Mayberry-style fishing (bring your own poles), including a contest with prizes for catching legendary Mayberry fish Old Sam and maybe even an Ernest T. bass. There also will be a Mayberry theme song whistling contest, Mayberry trivia contest, and much more. When Gomer Pyle left Wally's Filling Station in Mayberry, he joined the military. This year's Rendezvous is just following his lead. And what better time for patriotic spirit than during the start of the long Fourth of July weekend. "We're excited about the expansion of both the theme and the scope of this event," says organizer Bob Scheib. "We've been able to maintain our strong Mayberry connection and create a bigger and, we hope, even better event that supports an important cause. Though the Rendezvous is a fund-raiser for the National World War II Memorial, it's also designed to honor all veterans. In fact, Jamie Farr and Barbara Stuart represent TV shows dealing with the Korean War and the Vietnam era. We want this to be a really fun event, but also one that salutes all veterans-all while helping the cause of the Memorial." The Military Rendezvous 2000 will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, and from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 2. Admission to the event is still just $5 per person per day (camping is available for $10 per person for the weekend for those who wish to bivouac on site). The weekend kicks off with Opening Ceremonies at 10 a.m. on Saturday with a vehicle parade, color guard and remarks by Harley J. Coon, national president of the Korean War Veterans Association. Jamie Farr and Barbara Stuart will be making remarks, greeting fans and signing autographs beginning at Noon on Saturday and at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Other activities on both days include 101st Airborne reenactments of the battle in Saving Private Ryan (at around 2 p.m. each day), a 4077th M*A*S*H unit and military collection exhibit, military vehicle display, military swap tents, a USO-style show featuring singer Laura McCray, big band music and a military auction with items autographed by actor Tom Hanks, former U.S. Senator Bob Dole and General Norman Schwarzkopf. The Ohio National Guard and Air Force and the 82nd Airborne Division Association will also be participating with exhibits. And there will be lots of great chow served (or bring your own rations). In addition, there will be a Call to Chapel at 10 a.m. Sunday. The location for Military Rendezvous 2000 is 7835 North Range Line Road in Covington, Ohio. From I-75, take Exit 74 and follow Route 41 to Covington. Go north on State Route 48 and then west on State Route 185. Turn south on Range Line Road. Just before a steel bridge over the Stillwater River turn at the entrance signs for the Rendezvous. Military Rendezvous 2000 benefits the National World War II Memorial. Event sponsors are the Covington Eagles, AmVets, the American Legion, the VFW, Time Warner Cable and "The Andy Griffith Show" Rerun Watchers Club. Hotel accommodations are provided by the Fairfield Inn in Troy, Ohio. For more information about Military Rendezvous 2000, call Bob Scheib at (937) 473-5606. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 12:12:24 -0500 From: Allan Newsome <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Online Poll Results as of 13 June Hey folks, As you may know, THE BULLET did a poll of Favorite Episodes back in the fall of 1999. This is one of two times that I can remember her with her hair down, too. The other time is when Andy is acting as Justice of the Peace in the middle of the night and trying to marry the nice young couple from the feuding families. Granted now you can't see a lot of her bedroom when Mr. Darling comes calling, but she is clearly in bed when she hears my beloved Briscoe begin to sing, she gets up, goes to the window and tries--in vain--to get him to stop. Why? I'll never know. I'd have flown to his stong, beautiful arms! The episode that makes me laugh and cry is the Gomer and Mary Grace one, and since I've already wrote about that one, I won't repeat myself, but just say it's a special heart tugger for me. Laughs and tears mixed together, and it don't get better than that. I can understand Miss Poovey falling in-love with our Gomer from that one episode alone. He's a real Prince of a Fellow. Two lonely people finding the best in each other when others saw the worst--Lord, I'm crying right now. Laura Lee Hobbs, My Tears Bespeak the Pain in My Heart, but today's episode will brighten me right up, gold truck watcher extraordinare, and dye in the wool romantic always ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V2 #182 ***************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ ************************************************** You must send your comments to the Digest from the address you used to join WBMUTBB or your message will not be posted.
