Such goings on, such goings on! I knew I could start a moulage! All of you
get A+s for your "SEENS" and "UNSEENS". Thought of one more place you never
see - Barney's and Thelma Lou's duck pond! Course you can't see the ducks at
night anyway.....

Now, I'll get back to better things to do, like looking for chicken theives
and whatnot!

On a lighter note, I really enjoy reading the "conversation" everyday and=

glad to call Mayberry "My hometown".

Someone asked where Barney could have/would have walked Thelma Lou to
church. I know we had a discussion over at the Board about never seeing
Thel and Barn in church together (I think someone even suggested she might
be Catholic - - remember that?), but there is an episode (I think "Barney
and Thelma Lou - Phftt!") where Barney says Thelma Lou is upset because he's
cheap and never takes her anywhere decent. He lists the places he has taken
her, including church every Sunday. Andy says, "Well, those are pretty
low-budget dates." Can anyone confirm that?

Folks,

I hate to bring bad news, but I just heard in on CNN radio, so I guess it's
true: Andy Griffith DID have a heart attack. He was said to be "weak, but
still recovering."

"Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion!"
I believe, Miss Poovey, that quote is from one of my all time favorite
movies "Steel Magnolias" and was said by Dolly Parton. How much extra
credit do I get?

For many years I have gone to the Squad car rendezvous in Covington, and I am
glad to hear that it is back this year. Luckily I live less than 30 minutes
from the farm where the filling station replica is located. For a TAGS fan
the event is a must. This is the first I've heard that the event will be
taking place this year. In the past they have had several stars from the show
there, but the coolest thing is too get your picture taken next to the squad
car parked in front of Wally's service station. The closest I'll ever get to
the streets of Mayberry. Thanks for the info.
You know, after quite a bit of traveling already this summer, I've
realized there is something else about Mayberry that appeals to me so much.
Sure there are all the standard reasons why we want to go and live there,
quiet, friendly, ect. Well, I want to add one to the list: NO ORANGE BARRELS.
Paradise.

Hi all,

Don't know if you have heard or not but it is now public knowledge that Andy
Griffith did, indeed have a heart attack and is resting at his home near Mount
Airy. He is expected to make a full recovery. The information came today from
the Associated Press and quotes a longtime friend. I would send the article
but I am having problems cutting and pasting here at work right now...

<< But, what is it Regis says? "Barbarians! Worshippers of ____" ???

My daughter and I are forever needing that line and we're not sure we
understand what Regis says there. Is it "Satan"? It sounds more like
"Amon," in which case he's accusing the good citizens of Mayberry of
worshipping the Egyptian sun god. Some days, I favor "Salmon," although
it seems much more likely that Mayberrites would have worshipped trout
or catfish. Maybe Regis was a Carp. Oh, they're pushy those Carp ... >>

Karen:

Regis says, "...Worshippers of Mammon." "Mammon" is an old biblical word
that refers to material things in general, money in particular, much like
"filthy lucre." The word finds its appropriate place on the lips of a
doomsday prophet such as Regis.

The first time we actually see inside the barber shop is episode #10,
"Stranger in Town". This is the only episode where Howard McNear isn't Floyd.
He was played by Walter Baldwin who was somewhat of a character actor of the
time!!

Here is the AP story:

(Manteo, North Carolina-AP) -- Andy Griffith is recovering at home from a
heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery.
A longtime friend, Barbara Forrest, says Griffith's wife Cindi told her
that her husband is still weak, but slowly recovering.
Griffith is 74. Forrest says he had the heart attack last month at home
and then had the bypass surgery.
Griffith also suffers from Guillain-Barre (ghee-LAN'-bah-RAY') syndrome --
a neurological disorder that has plagued him for nearly 20 years. Forrest
says it still causes Griffith occasional problems with his feet.

Is everyone aware that in the episode where Jubal Foster's barn burns, he's
played by Everett Sloane. He's the writer of "The Fishin' Hole".

It's fun to see TAGS actors appear on Gomer. Allan Melvin (who played
Sergeant Hacker made a few appearances on TAGS. He was the army recruiter who
turned down Ernest T. Bass, he was one of the farmers selling produce that
Barney had to get rid of, he was the bully who was going to beat Barney up
when he was out of uniform, and a convict on 2 episodes!!

Miss Poovey talked about crying over the "Opie the Birdman" episode and
asked if the rest of us well up during certain shows. Yes, that particular
episode makes me cry, too. Another one that activates my tear ducts is the
first episode where Aunt Bee arrives to take care of Andy and Opie after
Rose gets married. I feel so bad for poor Bee when Opie blatantly rejects
her. And at the end when Opie has a change of heart just as Aunt Bee is
leaving -- well, I really start blubbering then!
