That is, if they could have gotten her thunder thighs between the bars! Another tidbit. When the TAGS producers were trying to think of a last name for Gomer, they just couldn't think of a good southern name that wasn't too ordinary. Denver Pyle stopped by to pick up an upcoming script where "The Darlings" make a visit and heard them talking. He walked over and said."I'm from the south. How about Pyle?" the producers loved it, the rest is history!! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 22:12:54 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Miss Rosemary To: aynisllinda, I agreee about Miss Rosemary. She even called him Mr. Fife. She was off the show for a while....BUT, she came back as the wife of the man who was trying to buy Andy's house when Barney went into Real Estate. Way too old for Bernard P. Fife!! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 22:17:14 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: TAGS poems Remember when the "FBI" was in town to give Barn & Ange a citation for the most crime free town in America? Barney wrote a poem and put it to music. It was to the tune of "My Darling Clementine" Pistol Packing Barney Fife Had a Jail and couldn't lock it, Had one bullet for his pistol, and he kept it in his pocket. Andy was making fun when he read it over Barney's shoulder (I hate it when you get obtuse!!!) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 22:21:35 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Aunt Bee's Canning Jars About the store owner who sold Andy the canning jars. In another episode he was the husband interested in buying Andy's house when Ol' Barn was in real estate. (His wife had been Miss Rosemary in an earlier episode!) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 22:25:45 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Allan Melvin Not only did he appear in those episodes and more (such as the recruiting sergeant who was interested in Ernest T. Bass, and a convict in two different episodes, one where he escaped from jail) he was also on "All In The Family." He played one of Archie's lodge buddies, Barney Hefner. "Barney?" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 22:29:53 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Ernest T. Bass In reply to your comment, he WAS a dirty little booger. But, did you know that any time Leonard Blush appeared on the radio, the voice was that of....Howard Morris? It's me, it's me, it's Ernest T. Of course he later appeared on an episode of Dick Van Dyke as an art expert! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 23:08:36 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #188 In a message dated 06/16/2000 12:07:13 PM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << While you're digging around in that "Opie Loves Helen" episode for the poem and the "Daddy Longlegs"...can you find that part where Barney asks Juanita to go to the drive-in with him? It's in that episode and I belong to a drive-in list that would love to see it. >> Hey Dixon! I'm so glad you asked about the phone call to Juanita...it's another classic! I want to say, though, that even though I can give you the words they are much funnier if you can watch ole Barn while he's saying them...What a GREAT episode!!! Here's the part you're lookin' for: (During the pauses in this scene, Barn does some hum/singing stuff and when talking to Juanita, some little suggestive laughs) "Sara, get me the Blue Bird Diner, will ya?...Hi sweetie pie - oh, hello Frank, is Juanita there...okay...'Neat?, Barn...How ya doin'?...okay...yea, listen, I got a little extra special treat in mind for tonight...drive in movie at Mount Pilot...Well I don't know what's playin', what difference soes it make?...Well, you know what I mean...tell me you know what I mean...yea, course you do. Well, we were out there once before...(OPIE ENTERS)...Well, what time you gonna get off?...Well then you won't have time to go home and change clothes...Well that's alright, you'll have to wear your uniform...you wear your uniform and I'll wear MY uniform...(Barney turns and sees Opie standing there listening to him, does one of his shocked expressions then says)...That's right, 7:30, uniforms...Goodbye! I sure enjoyed remembering this little scene ...think I'll go watch the whole episode again. Thanks for asking, Dixon...Abyssinia! Mama sometimes had to put cardboard in our shoes (not too good if it rained) until my folks could buy the needed shoes, or get to the shoemaker to get them half soled, which was a common practice of the day. I'm sure she would have considered the bed jacket a luxury & even though she fell in love with it would not have come right out & asked Andy for it. She dreamed & hoped & was of course disappointed because she had seen Andy go in to the store & saw it being taken out of the window. It is true that we ladies don't always give a clear signal about our desires, & that coupled with the hard times she lived through probably made her hesitant to even mention something frivolous like the bed jacket. I've always loved this episode as it showed a vulnerable Aunt Bee, & Andy in one of his sweetest & most unselfish moments.
