Howdy beloved....yee who are joined with us in the thought of it.....bless
ye...
The most very groovy misspoovey asks about the phrase :"Abysinnia", is a
slang heard between opie and Andy when parting company as do many residents
of the southland, it means, "i'll be seein' ya"...to which you
respond..."seeyasomoa"..or "i'll see ya some more(later)...be kind to one
another and remember, a stranger is just a friend you ain't met yet.

Picky, picky, picky - true the door was there but how many times could you
actually read the words 'beauty shop' on it???

The term is actually "nought" and according to the dictionary it means,
"nothing; a worthless thing or person; zero, the mathematical symbol '0', a
cipher."

Nought plus nought is nought. Put down your nought and carry the nought......

Dirty me, dirty me. I'm disgusted with myself! I forgot to change the subject
line on my response to the 'aught' 'ought' 'nought' discussion.

Depending on which source you consult, he is somewhere between 67 and 70.
I've asked him before, and he's given different years each time! (he knows
the DAY all right, it's the YEAR he's a little fuzzy on).

Gary,

Thanks for you comments on the Meadowview Facilities. I am sure many of us
are or were ignorant about how Convention Centers operate (not very
profitably apparently), and the dual ownership. I'd be curious if Eastman
or Kingsport had given any though to one or the other buying out so that at
least somebody could make some money. Also, somewhere along the line, I got
the impression that Marriott was or had been involved. I was thinking it was
the Marriott Meadowview Hotel.

Thanks for the work you and Meadowview have done, though I am disappointed
that it seems [EMAIL PROTECTED] is coming to an end.

Hello to all...Thanks, misspoovey, for asking about the abyssinia thing since
this is usually how I sign off. I looked this up a long time ago because I
wasn't sure just what Opie and Andy were saying. It comes from episode #112,
"Barney's Sidecar".
In the scene, Opie is using the wood-burning set he got for his birthday and
getting smoke all in the office and Andy comes in and tells him to take his
wood-burning set home. As Opie walks toward the door, he says "Abyssinia" and
Andy replys, "See ya Somoa." According to the book, "Mayberry 101", Everett
Greenbaum remembered the clever way folks would use these terms in the 1930s.
Abyssinia means I'll be seein' ya!, and See ya Somoa means See ya some more
a. So really, the terms don't mean anything- they were just different ways of
saying goodbye. Isn't that the coolest??? Again, thanks for asking...it is
always fun to remember back on my "TAGS" education.
Abyssinia!! Crystal M.

Hey Dixon...I don't want to be an interloper and get the big freeze, but
wasn't the term double-nought spy? I talk to elderly folks that come into my
office and they still say nought for zero as well as hope for help and some
other gems. It is so cool to decipher what they mean sometimes. Enough of my
interloping...Abysinnia, Crystal M.

Gosh I didn't mean to start a moulage. It seems that many slang words
began as religious epithets in disguise and over time have come to mean
nothing. I was mistaken to take offense and hereby apologize to anyone
offended by my inquiry. In the future, I will trust that anyone kind
enough to appreciate Mayberry couldn't possibly be talking ugly. Aunt

Hey folks,

Just got off the phone with my wife who is in Johnson City. She said she
got a flyer in the mail, that says this THURSDAY evening our very own Ronnie
and Jean will be at the "Mall at Johnson City", 2nd level, from 6-8 PM.

As she is in Johnson City, and I am still in Pensacola, I can't give you
directions, so maybe one of the residents up that way can.

Miss Poovey

I have always believed the refernece is simply to "I'll be seeing you."
If you say it quicker and in sort of a slang, it would easily become, "I'=
ll be
seein' ya." Which is very much like "Abysinnia" and requires the only
appropriate reply "See ya Samoa." (See you some more.)

Lots of luck to you and yours.

Subject: Larry McPeak Golf Tournament

There have been several people asking us to join the list and provide
updates about Larry McPeak and his condition. I am his son-in-law and
my wife and I would like to keep people informed.

Hello Everyone!!

We are getting ready for Larry's golf tournament on July 26 at 2pm. The cost
is $200 per team and hole sponsors are $100. We need some help getting
sponsors and prizes, etc. Can you please pass along this
information to whomever you can so that we can get the word out? If anyone
knows of some prizes like golf items, rounds of golf, trophies that could be
donated, etc. please help us out and let us know. We would greatly
appreciate it. We are going to need all the help we can get with this and we
would like to have a great turn out and lots of prizes. We are going to try
to make this an annual event to help Larry pay for his transplant medications
that are going to be so costly. Our fear is that once Larry is back on his
feet, he will have a difficult time getting any type of insurance once he is
able to go back to working.

We would like to thank everyone for inquiring so much about Larry. He will
be at Mayberry at Meadowview on June 24th so if you are a friend looking to
see Larry again or even if you have never met Larry, come and see him at
Meadowview.

Thanks alot for your help!!!
