(Barney) "All set!!!" (Andy) (VROOOOMMM!!! - The motorcycle leaves the sidecar behind, with Andy still sitting in it) "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" I barely caught it as they sang the beautiful songs from this show, but in one of them I heard, "Nip it in the bud." Didn't sound like Barney, but with a trained voice it could have been him. So Victor Hugo was the first to use it, or was it the two masters who set it to music, Boublil and Schoenberg? ws ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 04:01:36 -0700 (PDT) From: Rafe Hollister <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Allan Melvin > Someone mentioned [Allan Melvin] was in seven episodes but here he's > listed in 5... Actually, Allan Melvin was in eight episodes of The Andy Griffith Show: "Jailbreak" as Clarence 'Doc' Malloy "Andy and Barney in the Big City" as Hotel Detective Bardolli "Lawman Barney" as Neal, one of the roadside vendors "Barney's First Car" as Jake, Myrt Lesch's nephew "Ernest T. Bass Joins the Army" as the recruiting Sergeant "Andy's Vacation" as the convict who escaped from Barney and Gomer "Barney's Uniform" as Fred Plummer "Howard's Main Event" as Clyde Plaunt, Millie's old boyfriend Doug "Rafe Hollister" Garretson "So far so good." "Needles. Say pins. C'mon!" "Pins." __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages with Yahoo! Were some of the TAGS characters coached to get their "southern" accents? I always wondered how Barney could use phrases that sounded southern, accent-wise; And the Groovy Miss Poovey? I would just LUV ta know if she had a coach to teach her that thick as honey, dripy-sweet "southern" accent. The dialog for early Beverly Hillbillies was phonetically written out for the early episodes.(read that on a trivia website). Were early scripts phonetically written for those TAGS characters who needed to "sound southern"? Thanks to any body who can answer this long-held question!!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 07:52:07 -0500 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: High school >>>From: Janet Anderson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ...The other day, I watched on video the episode "Opie's Newspaper" in which Barney talks about his column in the school newspaper ("Pick-ups and Splashes from Floor and Pool"). But he calls the school Central High, not Union High. >>> That's the only time they said Central High, but he didn't say the that was the NAME of the school. My theory is that the school was always known as Mayberry Union High, and that grades 7 and 8 were called Junior High, 9 and 10 were called Central High, and 11 and 12 were Senior High. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 08:05:52 -0500 From: Allan Newsome <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry.com Race Car!! Hey folks, WBMUTBB member Ray Olson is a race car driver and several months ago he asked if it would be okay for him to put "www.mayberry.com" on the side of his car. Of course I said "SURE!!" and so Ray went and did it. He made a legend out of us in our own time! It's BIG!! Anyway, yesterday in the mail came a picture of the Mayberry.com car and a note that mentioned that Ray won the very first race he ran (on opening night 20 May) in the Mayberry car! You can see a picture of the car rounding the track after victory by going to the front page of the Mayberry.com web site. http://www.mayberry.com/ Thanks to Ray for sharing this with us and for showing his love for Mayberry right there on the side of his car!! I was browsing and enjoying every bit of my Digest #194. Why are their ads and hyperlinks for stuff that doesn't pertain to Mayberry? I keep ignoring them but when I see a hyperlink in my Digest and it is related to Mayberry, well I like to take a looksee. If it is something like getting paid to surf, well it is downrigh distracting. Anyone know why this is happening? Back To My Pickle Stash! If it is something like getting paid to surf, well it is downrigh distracting. Anyone know why this is happening?>> I'll answer this one. What's happening is that some folks have "free" email services and they automatically have a link to the free service at the bottom of every email they send...they can't help it. In other cases, folks have set up "signatures" that contain a commercial for some reason or another. I use to remove those type things when I edited the Digest by hand but there's no way to do that with an automated mailing list like we are running. Sorry but if folks want to put commercials in their signature line...there's not much I can do to keep 'em out of the Digest and in general they're easy to tell from "Mayberry" related links. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 09:44:29 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Just For The Fun Of It In a message dated 6/20/00 3:29:45 AM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << Thats not to say that all the folks that are prone to point out every little mistake are wrong but I just wonder if they ever truly have enjoyed a single show.... Most of us have been watching the show since we were tots. LOL, after all this time passing most knows every dialog and every visual detail to our dear Mayberry and the folks who live in it. That is funny, but if you've ever been involved with a fraternal organization, you'd be laughing even more at the things they all do. I was an Elks member at one time, they do a lot of that stuff. At the Lions Club in Fraser, Michigan we vote on prospective members with a black marble white marble system just like The Golden Door to Good Fellowship. (Nobody's mother ever got a fellow blackballed, that I know of) We don't have any of the other cool stuff like fez hats or anything, but some of the fellows have some pretty elaborate vests and there is a formality to the induction ceremonies, etc. =20 I wonder what it is with us men and those animal clubs. Most of the time we just sit around swilling hard cider, punching each other in the arm and yelling "FLINCH!" That, and raising lots of money for children's charities. Thats all I got to say Bob - I'll chew my cabbage more than twice and say once again that all of us trained noticers are enjoying TAGS at least as much, if not more, every time we watch it. Me - I've seen all the episodes so many times that I start to watch background scenes, look at the actors or actresses who aren't "front and center" in the camera. I get a lot of enjoyment watching, for example, Andy reacting to Barney rather than Barney as he is saying his lines. I like to watch the crowd scenes at the dances or parties or other group scenes and catch a lot of good stuff there. A lot of times, if I'm busy doing something else, I can get my "fix" just listening to the dialogue without watching, because I can run the scenes off in my head just fine. Along that line, we start to notice things, and then we share them with others here and in the books and newsletters. I think that the things we point out aren't "flaws" in the show, just another thing to enjoy while indulging our "compelshun" to watch our favorite show. =20 Big Head in DEE-Troit (O'Malley says HEY!) ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V2 #197 ***************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ ************************************************** You must send your comments to the Digest from the address you used to join WBMUTBB or your message will not be posted.
