I would like to acknowledge 3 of our members for their postings in the
last digest.
First of all to Bart and his outstanding photos from Meadowview! I was
SOOO excited to see my namesake Miss Poovey singing her heart out out on
"That Old Black Magic" It truly made my day. And that
gown-ooooooowheeeee!!! Gomer would have popped his buttons if he'd seen
that!:-) The pic of our own Allan holding a banana with Jean Carson
absolutely cracked me up!! Thanks, Bart, for your speedy posting of
these fantastic photos!

2nd to Dan Goodwin and his mystery solving explanation of the Green
River Ordinance. I tried myself to look this up on Infoseek to no avail.
Dan either has a better search engine than me or he just spends alot
more time under the bucket!:-)

3rd to Dubois the creakster who knew about the pea in the whistle.
Who'da thunk at one time it was a real dried pea they used? But I can
just see Barney rejecting the idea of buying a new whistle with a wooden
pea. After all, he was suspicious of the machines at the post office!

To all three of you- kudos, thumbs up, good work and a hearty slap on
the back! We appreciate it and more power to ya!

I agree with you Crystal. It sure isn't Aunt Bee helping to push Barney's
car. It does look like a man in a ladies dress. To my way of thinking Aunt
Bee should have been behind the wheel steering anyway, not pushing. After
all, she was the oldest. Let everyone else push. As slow as they were pushing
she wouldn't have had a problem keeping the car on the road.

I had a great time this weekend at Meadowview. It is 1:04 am as I write
this..will have to write more later.. I got back to Pensacola and my
computer at 11:15 PM Monday nite.

Anyhow, Pigeon Forge is a separate thing....I believe it is August 7th. The
Dillards will be there as will a few other folks from TAGS.

I don't have the flyer with me right now, but, will get the info from my
wife tomorrow and post it.

Jim

I was watching a great cooking show that I taped last night (Iron Chef)
and there was a commercial for a new show on the food network
called "Surprise Party" The promo showed how they are gonna surprise
people with impromptu parties. In the last scene, it said be sure to
watch..and through a door popped Jim Nabors wearing a party hat, holding
a present, some balloons and saying "Sir-prize, Sir-prize,
Sir-prize!!!!!" What a hoot! TAGS is everywhere!

Bart, thanks for sharing those pictures of the show! Those were great
photos! That one of Doug Dillard "pickin' and grinnin" would make a
wonderful poster. I can't look at that one without grinnin' myself.

I talked to Elizabeth Macrae and she's the real Luann Poovey alright..no
doubt about it. You could never mistake that voice and accent and she
said that's her natural way to talk. She's originally from North
Carolina. She seemed like such a warmhearted and genuine person and she
is a TRUE entertainer...but she can't sing....not a LICK! Actually (as
Luann says), I loved hearing her sing "That Old Black Magic" again.

And in my opinion, no Mayberry event would be complete without Allan
Newsome and David Browning. I hope you guys keep on doing this forever.

Songs, Themes and Laughs From The Andy Griffith Show ($12.00 CD; $9.00

album released on CD and cassette and, finally, here it is, complete with all
of the original cuts (12 in all) and original cover and liner notes. Included
are Earle Hagen's TAGS Theme,The Fishin' Hole,Manhunt (aka Barney's Theme),

Yeah, in the scene where Aunt Bea is pushing the car, I have noticed that it
is probably a man doing the pushing. Also, in the color episode when Aunt
Bea learns to drive, there is a scene of her driving around all reckless and
it looks like a man in Aunt Bea clothes actually driving there too.

First, a special thank you to Gary and all the Meadowview staff for hosting
another outstanding Mayberry event. It is a great facility and they should
be commended for their efforts.

It was a great day in Kingsport - seeing old friends, meeting new ones,
watching reruns on the big screen, visiting with the stars (very
accessable), hearing Larry McPeak sing "Beulah Land," laughing with David
Browning and Allan "Houdini" Newsome (come to the VW Boys show at Mayberry
Days and see why he has earned new nickname) - it was all of what makes
these cast reunions special to me. My show highlights were listening to
Elizabeth McCrae sing "That Old Black Magic" (the live version is something
you HAVE to experience), laughing with the hilarious Ronnie Schell, who was
nice enough to bring the famous "Gomer Pyle, USMC" outtakes and bloopers,
listening to Maggie and Gus perform, and then singing along with The
Dillards. Just a great day from start to finish.

Congratulations are in order for Jim Clark, Allan Newsome and David
Browning, who each received a nice plaque ("where's mah plaque, gimme mah
plaque") for their dedication to the Mayberry spirit. They are all richly
deserving of the honor and I look forward to seeing them at Mayberry Days.

Hello everybody in Mayberry land . I have a question regarding the columbia
house tapes of TAGS. Do these tapes have the complete episodes , including
the epilogues? If I am going to spend that kind of money, I want to know
that I am getting the "whole shabang". Does anyone know? Steve

It seems that for a kid who could put his hand in a milk bottle and pull out
an egg, putting a pea in a whistle would be childs play. Or maybe he planted
it in the whistle when is was small and waited for it to grow. But, as
Tennessee Ernie Ford always said,"Bless Yore Little Pea Pickin' Heart".

This was truly a funny episode. I love it when Andy comes in and Otis "tells
on" Barney and tells Andy to ask Barney why he threw a tomato at him. When
Andy does, Barney responds with "...I'll clean him up later". This scene
portrays Otis as very child-like and it's a side of him that I love!! And of
course, Barney is the bossy, overbearing parent-type. The whole thing is just
hilarious. Those "TAGS" writers were so brilliant!!! Abyssinia!...Crystal M.
