Helloooooo Dolllllll,
It's me again with another Mayberry connection to speak of.....

If your local TV stations happen to air the old Garfield cartoons, you can
hear Howard Morris in the segment called USAcres, where he does voices of
barnyard animals.

Oh well, back to playing jail.....

These are the most complete episodes available and yes, they do, contain the
epilogues.

Subject: Thelma Lou's Job

Was watching a show the other day, and Thelma Lou told Barney at least
twice that she had to get back to the office. So, accounting for the
jobs back then for women, I'm assuming that she might have been a
secretary.

Also, on the haunted house episode, when Barney realizes that Andy
didn't come out of the house, he grabs his revolver and goes into the
house. I noticed though that he didn't stop to put his bullet in. Maybe
he thought the mere sight of the gun would scare the ghost! lol.

>Also, I was trying to remember which episode it was when Andy agitates
Barney by calling him a squirt, and Andy does it >because he knows it'll
rile Barney.

That's the final scene (before the epilogue) of "Barney of the Rebound."

>What ever happened to Warren? (Huh? Huh? Huh? )

We don't know, he just disappeared from Mayberry without explanation. The
character of Warren just never seemed to mesh with Andy's character (though
his scenes with Goober were priceless, IMO). Actor Jack Burns was fired
from TAGS on Christmas Day. I understand that to this day he's very bitter
about his Mayberry experience.

>What was Thelma Lou's occupation?

All we ever learn is that she works in an office ("Man in the Middle.") She
is most likely a secretary or receptionist.

>Was Dud Wash ever played by Bob Denver? I could have sworn I saw him in an
episode?

Yes, Bob Denver played Dud in "Divorce, Mountain Style." In previous
episodes, the character had been played by Hoke Howell. As the late Mr.
Howell used to tell it, he was replaced because CBS wanted Bob Denver to get
all the TV exposure he could, since he was to star in Gilligan's Island
later that year. This story always seemed a bit odd to me, since Bob Denver
was already an established star at that time (The Many Loves of Dobie
Gillis).

sings in perfect harmony along with Andy in other episodes! >>

Barney did sound slightly out of tune when he and Andy sing the Mayberry
Union High song. But you're right, I did notice he was in fine voice when he
and Andy sang a hymn together in the office once...

It was a first or second season episode (the squad car was a '61 I believe)
and it had to do with a woman trying to extort Barney by making him think he
proposed to her. At the end Andy said the big giveaway was that such a fine,
attractive lady would be so crazy..."about a squirt". Barney gets all ticked
off. It happens in the epilogue...

In response to the questions about Elizabeth Macrae.......she was born in
Columbia, SC and grew up in Fayetteville, NC. She was educated at the Holton
Arms School in Washington, D.C. That's about all I have on her right now.

I don't know about that. At that point, Aunt Bee didn't know how to drive.
Considering the difficulty she had later in learning, I don't know that I
would have wanted her to even steer the car.

Don, Elizabeth Macrae told me she was originally from Fayetteville,
North Carolina, but she didn't give me any other details. I'd love to
see her at other Mayberry functions.

Thanks again, Bart, for those extra photos! What a wonderful picture of
the VW Boys. You sure are a good photographer.

Lotsa luck to you and yers,

Barney's appearing and disappearing singing ability is second
only to Gomer's ability and inability to work on cars. It comes
and goes - kind of like "the versitis"

Hey To All!
I noticed the irony of Aunt Bee pushing but I never noticed the switcheroni
either. I just thought they put the car in Low Drive and there really wasn't
any pushin' perse. Kind of just an optical illusion.

I agree, they should have put Aunt Bee at least next to Barney in the front
seat since he was out of sorts and put Thelma Lou (who is MUCH younger than
dear Aunt Bee) in her spot in the pushin' line.

Would say back to the pickle stash but I am away from it for a couple of
days.

That would be episode # 36, "Barney on the Rebound"! Remember the
breach-of-promise suit?? In one scene, the girl Barn becomes entangled with
(Melissa), calls him a squirt and Andy says "...and I don't appreciate you
callin' my deputy a squirt." Then he does it himself at the end of the show.
Another GREAT episode!!! Abyssinia, Crystal M.
