Subject: Mayberry RFD, where?
Hello everyone,
Just hooked up my Direct TV satellite system last
night and am FINALLY able to watch TAGS again on TV,
instead of on all my tapes.
I've heard alot about Mayberry RFD on Nick (I
think that's where it was) and was just wondering, is
it a nightly thing or a weekly thing or have I just
missed the boat altogether.
Thanks,
Mr. Schwump

Has anybody noticed the voice resemblance of the new announcer inbetween
TAGS episodes on TVLand and the question-reader on the Andy computer
game? I e-mailed a query to them but got no reply. I wonder if they had
anything to do with producing that game or if they just hired the same
vocal performer. Aunt Bee of Orlando

(Does anyone know the lyrics to "Church in the Wild Wood" that Andy and
Barney sing? )
Here's a copy of the words I found on line. It is a wonderful song. I find
it very therapedic myself.
Lots of luck to you and yours,
Stewart Simmons over at Tripplet.
There's a church in the valley by the wildwood,
No lovelier spot in the dale;
No place is so dear to my childhood,
As the little brown church in the vale.
Refrain
Come to the church in the wildwood,
Oh, come to the church in the dale,
No spot is so dear to my childhood,
As the little brown church in the vale.
How sweet on a clear, Sabbath morning,
To list to the clear ringing bell;
Its tones so sweetly are calling,
Oh, come to the church in the vale.
Refrain
There, close by the church in the valley,
Lies one that I loved so well;
She sleeps, sweetly sleeps, 'neath the willow,
Disturb not her rest in the vale.
Refrain
There, close by the side of that loved one,
To trees where the wild flowers bloom,
When the farewell hymn shall be chanted
I shall rest by her side in the tomb.
Refrain
From the church in the valley by the wildwood,
When day fades away into night,
I would fain from this spot of my childhood
Wing my way to the mansions of light.
Refrain

For some unknown reason TVLand sees fit to cut that out for commercial time.
Maybe one of the best scenes in TAGS history

<< HOWEVER, I've
never been crazy about Aunt Bee. I thought she was pretty bossy in the
episode where she tried to keep Mr. Frisbee the moonshining farmer from
moving and just as bossy in the freezer episode. >>
That's because she was ticked off, she's always that way when she's standing
up for someone or something. Remember when Barney attacked Andy during a
debate, alleging "76 documented cases of malfeasance"? Andy said "I don't
know what to say" and Aunt Bee yelled "Tell him he's a rabble rouser!" Or
something like that. I loved it.
Too, Aunt Bee gets bossy sometimes when she gets territorial. Remember her
hitting Briscoe with the spoon? Or her picking up the chicken in the
"Mayberry RFD" pilot? Same thing.
I love Aunt Bee. Two episodes I recommend looking for: "Aunt Bee's Medicine
Man" (where we see her drunk--she was hilarious), and the color episode in
which she learns to fly (very touching)...

<< Folks. If you are all such fans of TAGS, you could at least get the
names of the episodes correct.
There is no "What's Your Hurry". The episode is titled "Man in a Hurry".
Please make a note of that. >>
Hey Bud...as Andy said to Dr. Harrison Breen at the end of the "Sermon for
Today" episode..."What's your hurry?" LOL ;-)
As long as those two episodes have been brought up, anyone notice what
beautiful companion pieces they are to each other? "Man in a Hurry" shows an
out of towner who just about goes crazy over Mayberry's laid back lifestyle,
while "Sermon" shows another out-of-towner who actually makes the good people
of Mayberry *forget* they have that lifestyle and almost drive *them* crazy!
Obviously, rushing around to do anything has no place in Mayberry. Which is
great...

impression from everyone's conversation that Andy and Helen were coming
back to Mayberry. Goober said he was acting sheriff until Andy got back and
even in a postcard Andy said "we'll see ya soon". Was it played that
Andy was still the sheriff but unseen in Mayberry RFD? I thought him and
Helen came back to have their baby christened. Help clear this up for
me! >>
The writers never said in the pilot that Andy and Helen were moving away for
good, but I believe it came up later. I know Opie made a few appearances. I
was always under the impression Opie stayed in Mayberry to finish his
education. When Andy and Helen come back with their baby they do mention
Andy living out of town, I think. "Return to Mayberry" mentions him leaving
Mayberry for a postal inspector job somewhere...wonder if that matches up?

Hi Y'all
Sorry that I'm a bit tardy on this, but I've been away from Mayberry for the
past few days, even past Cousin Virgin on the way back into town!
If you remember the portion of the episode in Mayberry Goes Hollywood, where
the "all-dolled up" Opie says. "There Coming" it's sort of a parody of the
svene in the Music Man where Ronny excitedly annouces that the Wells Fargo
Wagon is coming into River City.
Hope everyone is well, and don't forget to come and visit us at Sarah's over
the weekend after 8pm.

Subject: A Boycott Ended and Boy Am I Glad!
Well, I finally saw all of the "Prisoner of Love" episode last night (no
need to go into why there was a boycott on it in the first place--it goes
back to when I was a kid). And boy oh boy, I'm glad I did 'cause it has one
of the funniest scenes in it I have ever seen in any show! There was sweet,
but drunk to the gills Otis trying his dangest to get locked up, and there
was the high sheriff and his deputy trying THEIR dangest to pull him OUT of
the cell and send him home! Finally, Andy and Barney wrestle
him OUT the courthouse, and toss a coin to see who would have to drive him
home. Now that would have to be a bit of sheriffing you just don't encounter
in the jail houses of most towns! Sending a drunk home?
Paul, your comment about Aunt Bee's ribbing Andy in light of his earlier
remark to her not asking him about dinner is well taken. But I still think
she was plenty sore at him over Dolly when she had no right to be.
Seems when things go wrong they all want to give Andy a greater share of
the responsibility than reason should allow him to take. Just my opinion
though.

I talked with Tim White of the VW Boys and he had 2 items of good news:
- - They will be opening for Doug Dillard on Friday night at Mayberry Days.
Our own David Browning and Allan Newsome get in their act with a bit of
their own "recitations" and magic!
- - Great news about Larry McPeak. The funding goals for his liver transplant
have been met and now it is only a matter of finding the right liver and
recovering from the surgery. Please continue to keep a good thought for
Larry and all the McPeak family.
I have also added some Mayberry Days information to Surry Arts Council
website, including a link to the VW Boys' webpage if you want to read more
about them.

If you look closely, you can see that there's a length of fishing line
looped around the bird. Someone off screen tugged on the line to make the
rooster do all those silly movements.
Had Beauregard actually been intoxicated, they could have gotten into all
sorts of trouble with the ASPCA, Humane Society, or similar organizations.

scene on the street where everyone is gathered around the stranger clearly
shows a big window(which is inside in later episodes), was this an error, or

what it was a fun episode......Lotsa Luck to You & Yours......Dave
>>>
It's like that during the entire first season. On the outside of the
courthouse, there is a large window to the left of the front doors as you
enter, but on the inside, it's just a blank wall. Between the first and
second seasons, they corrected the design, at the same time eliminating the
door in the corner of the courthouse interior and installing a heater there.
Some viewers may not realize that the courthouse interior and exterior were
two completely different sets. The sidewalk and Main Street were part of
the Forty Acres backlot, but the interior was on a Desilu sound stage.
Later, they built a duplicate, indoor version of Main Street, complete with
a sidewalk and false fronts of the courthouse, barber shop, TV shop, and
grocery store (they built an indoor version of Andy's front porch as well).
It's always much easier to film indoors on a controlled set, rather than
outdoors where you have to contend with bad weather, traffic noise, aircraft
flying overhead, etc.

In this episode, it's evident that the rooster has some wires tired to
it.
It's pretty easy to tell when it's rear end goes up so high, and then
it's head goes back. Good thing PETA wasn't around then........they'd be
protesting in front of the courthouse!
