SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE MAYBERRY TIMES
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 19:38:48 -0400
From: "April Gailey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Andy and Helen's wedding.
"""If any of you kind fans would be willing to send a copy of Andy and
Helen's
wedding to me, please contact me at my email address with any
information. Of course, I would be willing to pay for this service."""
I too would love to have a copy of this episode of Mayberry RFD. I would be
very happy to pay for the services too. I don't get TV Land and I just want
to have this episode to go with my collection.
Allan is there any way to get this episode offered at Weaver's. Just a
thought.
Anyway please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if anyone would be willing
to do this for me.
Thanks
April

I love the one where she's got Otis in "jail" at the house. Everytime she
tells him to do something, she snaps her fingers and says, "Hop to it!"
I also like that commercial for TVLand (times change, good tv doesn't) where
Andy, Opie, and Aunt Bee are eating dinner, and they are doing these voice
overs. Aunt Bee is hilarious! Now we're all going around in the high voice
saying, "That's funny, I thought he liked sushi". :-)

Actually, as someone here on the list once told me, I believe they had to cut
out some familiar scenes to make room for the previously unseen epilogues. I
guess it's a good trade off if you know the whole episode, then you can learn
to quote the epilogue, but darn...those giraffes are sorely missed!

Hey, everyone!
I had to chuckle about the comment on the "Prisoner of Love" episode that
talked about the getting-Otis-to-leave-jail scene. That was one of the
absolute funniest scenes ever on TAGS. (Or any show, for that matter.) Barney
screaming "Aaaaah!" as Andy pushes him out the door is priceless!!
On another topic, can someone tell me approximately how long ago Hal Smith
(Otis) died? (Unless I'm mistaken, and he's still with us!) Thanks.

I haven't played that game, but the TV Land announcer is Tim Conway (there
are other announcers too, but I believe he is the newest).

I got to see the color episode when Warren locks up the whole ladies
auxiliary for the Bingo game. I noticed how similar this was to the time
Barney locked up the whole town, while Andy was gone. Glad they didn't
break that mold. huh what huh huh
The Warren episode also showed some familiar faces as extras. There was
Miss RoseMary, the home buyer..now involved in the Bingo scam. In that same
show, I was reminded of how backward the men of that day were. All those
guys brought their kids over to Andy's house for supper because they
couldn't even scramble eggs. Speaking of stereo-types..let's ease up on
dear Aunt Bee.
I remember about 20 years ago, a lady had a sign in her office that said
something to the effect that if a woman was bossy,
she was ........(censored) but if a man was bossy , he was assertive. I
think Aunt Bee was just assertive, and as a one reader said, committed to
what she believed in...thus the aptly titled "Aunt Bee the Crusader".
...and this is a guy talkin'
yer not talkin' to a jerk ya know
One more comment...those internet links that show up on the free Email
accounts, I've got a pickle of an idea for them.

Jerry and Allan are right. We need to get along and keep this great site a
joy for all of us. The common denominator here is TAGS. We may disagree on
the content, but we all love the show. I, for one, am going to try to improve
my behavior when I'm in the hallowed city limits of Mayberry!!!!

My fellow Mayberrians: I think I'll have to go on record here of
agreeing with both Allan & Jerry. Some postings of late have come very
close, at least on the surface, to being both arrogant and condescending,
making some of us a little apprehensive about sending any contributions of
our own to the DIGEST. I, for one, am a dyed-in-the-wool TAGS fan, but just
don't have the wealth of trivia knowledge that many of you are blessed with.
But I'm willing to learn. Use your knowledge if you have it, but please
don't flaunt it in a condescending way. Some's got it and some ain't. And I
love you all just the same. Long live Mayberry! Larry

Subject: Andy being serious
Andy was great on some of the episodes when he had to be serious. Probably my
favorite was when he sent Opie to school to fight the bully who was taking
his milk money. He dropped off a change of clothes at the courthouse and came
back later all bruised up. But, as he was on his way to school, he stopped
and looked up at Andy. It was the first instinct of a parent to protect him,
but he gave him a look that was just perfect. After TAGS was over, I saw Andy
in an interview say he thought he was terrible at being serious. His quote
was,"Ya know, that being serious is HARD."

Hey!!! Like many on the digest, I am looking forward to the episode
where Aunt Bee learns to fly a plane. But recalling all the grief it
took to teach her how to drive a car, who'da thunk that our Miss Taylor
could have become such an accomplished aeronautic ace? Well, anyways, I
put together this little site just for fun about Aunt Bee and her
driving. Check it out at:

Are you referring to the episode where Andy and Helen get caught in the
cave-in? Barney was talking about bats in that one -- bats fly in your
hair and make you crazy! Hee Hee I love that episode.

I respectfully disagree that Aunt Bee was bossy. She stood up for what
she thought was right as in the case of the farmer who she thought was
being railroaded off of his property. Bless her heart, she was
misguided as it turns out, in as much as he was a moonshiner something
she did not condone, but at least she had the courage of her convictions
& was trying to do the right thing. She has always been a great favorite
of mine. Spunky yes, concerned about the welfare of others yes,, but not
what I would really call bossy.

That one always gets me to laughing. Otis - easy to spot. Barney -
the occasional accidental tippler - ok, dead giveaway, but how many
drunken chickens do you reckon Andy had seen in his lifetime? I mean,
he recognized "the blind staggers" in ole Bo pretty quickly. How did
he know? Maybe the bird was just shagged out after a long squawk or
pining for the Fjords. Even diagnosing Aunt Bee's state of "tiddly"
on the elixir took a brief consultation with Barney. Hmmmmmm.
Oh, and didja ever notice how uniform the signs the ladies at the
protest all carried were? They apparently all use the same sign
painter as Regis. Hey Laura Lee, does that fella paint the sale signs
down to the dime store too? Real nice lettering.

Subject: Aunt Bee's Anger
One of my favorite scenes involves Aunt Bee's anger. Remember when Barney
was tooling around Mayberry on his motorsickle, she suggested they do like
the Nazis did. String a wire across the road and then when he hit it (well
you know what would happen) Then Andy told her, "Aunt Bee, we just want to
hurt him a little, not kill him." or something to that effect. Just proves
that Mayberry folks are just plain humans like all the rest of us.
