If you go to www.barneyfife.com, you can get actual Sunday School lessons
based on TAGS. Keep in mind that Andy been getting HIS preaching from the
regular reverend for quite a while and he ain't about to switch!

>>>...at the very beginning of "the darlings are coming" ... i could swear i
remember as a youngster that episode starting with the darlings in their
house and briscoe reading the letter that stated dud had been dishonorably
discharged.
>>>
Perhaps your memory is a tad off; no such scene was ever part of any TAGS
episode. Is it possible you're thinking of the opening scene of "No Time
for Sergeants?" It's similar to what you've described, except that the
letter is an induction notice.

I believe this one is called "My Fair Ernest T. Bass." If I'm not mistaken
it's from 1964, the year "My Fair Lady" was released in theaters.

Is that the same W.G. "Snuffy" Walden that did the guitar music interludes

always thought his acoustic version of "With a Little Help from My Friends"
sounded very Mayberryish...

Subject: Our Spunky Bee
Just thought I'd comment on the recent talk about Aunt Bee being angry or
bossy. I agree with "Aunt Bee 2" that she is simply SPUNKY. Bee
normally has a sweet and soft-spoken way. But she very much has her own
mind and becomes assertive when the situation warrants. The other night,
I watched my video of "A Singer in Town" in which Keevy Hazelton gives a
rock-and-roll arrangement to Bee and Clara's "My Home Town." Aunt Bee
vigorously insisted that the tender little ditty be sung as written, and
everyone agreed in the end that she was right. Actually, Aunt Bee
reminds me of my mother, with respect to her personality. Like Bee, my
mom is the sweet, home-loving, nurturing type; however, perceived
injustice or an attack on a family member really gets her dander up! I
think Aunt Bee would seem rather one-dimensional if she was never allowed
to be righteously indignant or just plain peeved. I like our Bee the way
she is!

Subject: Opie's Name
I've not heard this addressed, but I've been thinking lately about Opie's
name. I have never heard of another person or character with the name
Opie. Does anyone know the origin of this name? Is it his given name or
a nickname? If it's a nickname, I have a theory about it ("It's just a
theory. What's your theory?"). Maybe it's short for Opus -- after all,
he was Andy's "opus number one"! I'm not from the South, but in rural
Indiana we've had our share of unusual names. Just in the small farming
community I grew up in, there was a Punk, a Spook, a Hat, and a Tiddly
(he was our Floyd, the local barber). My mother also knew of two
brothers named Opal and Pearl (guess their mother wanted girls!). But we
didn't have a single Opie (I'm taking it for granted that Andy wouldn't
allow HIS son to be named Opal). Can anyone out there clue me in on this
matter? Or offer your own theories?
Janet

Subject: Preview of TAGS facts
Was wondering if this thought ever came up? Often I have been reading
from this site the postings of small facts on TAGS, things like Barney's
hair being combed differently in the same scene but from different
camera angles, or recently about Andy laughing out loud at Ernest T.
What if you experts on these facts could post them JUST prior to the
showing of that particular episode so we that ain't so observant or that
don't have all the episodes on tape could look for them right then.
This way we all could check them out immediately. Just a thought. Lots
of luck to you and yours.

Subject: WBMUTBB MEETING @ Sarah's Chatroom
Hey Folks,
I mentioned a while back that we ought to try and have a meeting at
Sarah's chatroom to gather and have a little fun. I figured that we
could try to have a couple so hopefully folks could make it to at least
one of them.
How about we do this. Let's try for this Friday night and next Saturday
night. We'll meet at 9:00pm EDT (that's 8:00pm Central Time).
Friday July 14th @ 9:00pm EDT
Saturday July 22nd @ 9:00pm EDT
Meet at Sarah's.
http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/chatroom.htm
You can click that link to get there or you can use mIRC to get to the
room. Directions for mIRC use is below and on Sarah's web site.
Allan
mIRC Information for Getting into Sarah's
Your other option is to download the mIRC software from:
http://www.mirc.co.uk/
Download and install mIRC and then choose the following settings.
1) Open the mIRC program
2) Click on "File" and choose "Options" from the drop down menu
3) On the right of the window that opens there is a "down arrow" you
can use to select which IRC server you would like to use. Click that
"down arrow" and scroll down the list until you see "Webnet: Random
Server" and
select that as your server. (NOTE: Any of the Webnet servers will work
but the random setting will allow mIRC to choose the easiest one to
connect to when you try to connect)
4) On this same window you will see an area to place your Name, Email,
Nickname and an alternate Nickname. Fill these in and then click "Okay."
5) Click on "File" and choose "Connect" from the drop down list.
6) After mIRC connects, a window will pop up. At the top of that window
it will say "Enter name of channel to join". Type the following:
#mayberrry
(After the first time you enter the #mayberry channel...the channel
should appear in the list of channels and you can just scroll down and
choose #mayberry from the list.)
7) That's it. You should now be in Sarah's and be able to talk all
you'd like. You'll see a blinking line near the bottom of the chat
window and you can just type and hit return to send your comments.
NOTE: You must already be connected to the internet when you run mIRC

publicity Mayberry is getting.
