How about that part on "The runaway kid"when Andy says "I don't know why I
keep getting my pants hooked on my own pitchedfork",and when Barney says on
"Barney gets his man"...."I swallowed my gum",and to the one who wrote about
the night Howard joined the lodge,I don't know why I didn't notice it before
either but come to think of it Mayberry was a dry county, and it did seem kind
of odd that Andy offered Howard a beer at the lodge. And I think that Aunt Bee
would to be the surviver because she was the one who worried about
everybody, and waited on everybody and she was the one who would last the
longest.Mayberry fan in Louisville David<dandav46>Daniels

Well to start off my favorite funny lines...

Alot of them that have been mentioned are some classics, but one that sticks
out in my mind is when Helen tells Barney that Ernest T will kill him after
Barney keeps saying that he'll take him out back and Pow! It is a classic.

Also in Briscoe declares for Aunt Bee when Briscoe gets up from the table
and yells, I ain't about to be beat to death with no spoon.

Also in the episode with the runaway kid when Andy says that he has a job
and is bound to do it, Barney asks where you going, and Andy says home to
get permission from my son to do it.

As for the survivor, I would think it would be Andy, because he has such a
calm manner about him and the rest of them would want him around to keep the
peace.

Well that is my 2 cents worth.

I noticed this just the other night, myself. It was when Otis was the
decendant of Nathan Tibbs. They were in the mayor's office about to toas=
t
Otis and when Mayor Pike gets to him Otis picks up a glass and then puts =
it
back and Andy says "Go ahead Otis, I think Nathan would want it that way.=
" I
remember thinking "Mayberry is in a dry county! What are they doing with=

alchohol?" Oh well, this is Hollywood.

I really like thinking about the main Mayberry folks on the Survivor
show. I agree to get rid of Ernest T first, what with him probably
pitching rocks thru the bamboo huts Opie wouldn't last too long, what
with his total honesty; not to mention he might want to throw the whole
week's supply of rice! :-) Haircuts wouldn't be at a premium on the
island so Floyd would be out of there. Goober eats too much and Otis
would get himself voted off on purpose when he realized there were no
moonshiners on the island. Gomer has a lot of survivor skills from the
marines so he would make it for quite awhile, as would Aunt Bee because
of her domestic skills. But I believe it would come down to Barney and
Andy, and you know who I think would be the sole survivor? It would be
Barney, because Andy would see how important it was to Barn to be the
winner. Andy would make Barney look good and let him claim all the
glory. Andy gets his satisfaction from the joy he can give other folks!
That's why we love him!

You know, while we're on the subject of our favorite TAGS lines,=

let's not forget the following epilogue (sung to the tune of
"Clementine") started by Barney, but finished off by Andy. (I=
 forget
which episode it was from)

In a jail house, down in Dixie;
Fightin' crime and riskin' life,
Dwelled a sheriff and his buddy,
Pistol-packing Barney Fife.

Oh my daring, Oh my daring,
Oh my daring Barney Fife,
He's a real crime-stopper,
What a copper, Barney Fife.

Then one day there came a ridin'
Two bad men to rob a bank,
But Fife was tricky, a dead-eyed dicky,
Now they're locked up in the tank.

(Last Chorus by Andy)

Oh my Barney, Oh my Barney,
Had a jail and couldn't lock it,
Had one bullet for his pistol,
Had to keep it in his pocket!

As many times as I have seen TAGS over the years, I had never=
 seen
this ending until the TV Land Marathon. It's just another one of=

those priceless Barney and Andy moments!

The other episode you're thinking of is "Opie's Fortune," when Andy tells
Opie and Barney about the erector set he used to own as a child.

Opie: Gee Paw, I sure would like to build something like that!

That's exactly right. This is one reason why the character of Warren
Ferguson never worked. When Andy yells at Warren and refers to him as "my
idiot deputy," it seems like Andy really means it. However, when Andy would
yell at Barney, it was more like a parent yelling at a child. You always
knew their solid friendship was there, underneath the argument.

This reminds me of Ralph and Alice on The Honeymooners. When he would
scream at her, threatening to send her to the moon, it was funny because we
knew that he would NEVER really hit her. Imagine if he had - the threats
certainly wouldn't have been funny after that.

>>>Beer?? In Mayberry??? ...Either this was a big "oops!" on the part of
the writers, or at some point the county ceased to be "dry." Does anybody
know the answer to this one?
>>>

The latter is correct. By the time Mayberry turned to color, the liquor
laws had been relaxed somewhat. In one episode (Aunt Bee and the Lecturer),
Aunt Bee actually serves her dinner guests some of Andy's homemade
elderberry wine. She even admits the she herself drinks too much wine on
occasion.

Moonshining was probably still illegal (perhaps all hard liquor was), but we
do know that beer and wine were legal in Mayberry by that point.

That's what it said all right, Gary Grant. Either somebody in the prop
department still can't spell (see the ENGLARGMENTS sign in Walker's
drugstore) or they used a real movie poster and changed it on purpose, so as
not to give the movie studio a free plug (the latter seems unlikely, since
they did mention his name repeatedly during the episode).

Does anybody want to take a guess as to what the movie may have been? The
poster advertises it as "A Rollicking New Comedy." The episode is from
1964, so perhaps it was "Father Goose" or "That Touch of Mink."

Hey To All!
I have a question that I am hoping one of my Mayberry friends can help me out
with. Was there an episode where we saw Barney tell Ange he was resigning
and taking the detective job? How exactly did he tell Ange? It must have
been hard to Ange his news of a new job and moving from those who were near
and dear to him. I am in a personal pickle at the moment and was wondering
how Barney did this. Can anyone help me with how Barn did it?

Oh yes, that one is full of gems. The sneakiest funny one is
also spoken by Goober (to Lydia) as an aside when they visit
Helen's later on. He says "That's that couch I was telling you
about" and I like to bust a gusset every time.

Runner up for best deadpan line - spoken by our favorite high
sheriff as he is adjusting the television before he and Helen
settle in for some serious snuggling. "How about a little
adventure?" There are some who don't believe he was necessarily
talking about the tv show, and I'm one of them.

I am a 42 year old married mother of two sons, ages 10 and 8. We recently
went on vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and on our way home we
decided to make a stop in Mt. Airy North Carolina, birthplace of Andy
Griffith. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and wish we could have spent more
time. I am interested in learning more about Andy's life, the show and Mt.
Airy NC and how the show originated. I am a very big fan and try to watch
the show every day. My favorite episode is the one where Opie takes care of
the baby birds after accidentally killing the mother bird and has to let them
go when the are big enough. It is a tear jerker. My husband's favorite
episode is the one where Barney gets the motorcyle. We just love the show.

Elizabeth. We live in Selma, N.C. (28 miles east of Raleigh) two hours from
Mt. Pilot! My wife is a housewife and I am a terminal manager for Kenan
Transport Company (petroleum carrier). We have been fans of TAGS forever. I
saw it first when I was 5 years old back in 1966 and I have never stopped
watching it. My wife is equally a big fan and our daughter has just started
watching. TAGS is a daily part of our life. If only the world was like that.
If only the television was like that now. We would like to be members of your

I am 38 years old and I have adopted 2 teenage boys and have legal custody of
one girl. My is Mary and we have been married almost 13 years. I watch the
Andy Griffith show everyday if possible. I just finished watching return to
Mayberry on WGN television tonight and I cried simply because of the memories
when I was a kid watching the Andy Griffith Show. I like down home comedy and
the simple things in life. I like it because I am for God, Family and Country
and alot of that was promoted on the Andy Griffith Show. Oh, one more thing
before I go. Is there a video out on the movie Return to Mayberry? If there
is then I would like to purchase it.

God Bless and I am glad to be in Mayberry!

As my Email address shows, I am a Nana to 5 grand children. I am retired
from NY to Fl. Have been watching Andy and the gang since the first episode.
It's on 3 times a day here and I watch it as often as I can. Watched Andy's
return to Mayberry last night, then right into the regular show. There's
something about the show that really gets to me. I, as many others, would
love to live in a setting like Mayberry. Maybe it's just the genuiness of
daily life, going to the church socials, the big dance at the club, the menu
at the diner, etc. It's what we need now. Would like to be at the 40th
anniversary "doin's" in August. Would like to send my congratulations for
another 40 years.!

I have been a fan of TAGS since my college days in North Carolina (Duke
University). I share my affection for TAGS with a few close friends around
the country, and I'm raising my 2 little girls (ages 5 and 3) to be TAGS fans
(better than other stuff they could be watching on t.v.!). My favorite
episodes are: "Dogs Dogs Dogs," "Class Reunion," and "The Darlings Come to
Town." My favorite quote from the series -- hands down -- is from "Dogs Dogs
Dogs:" "Boy giraffes are selfish."

I work for an art museum and my husband and I live in a suburb of Kansas City.

Hey to Goober.
