A former television director, I once worked at WRCB-TV in Chattanooga, TN. I
understand that Jim Nabors worked there as a film editor prior to Mayberry
and the U.S.M.C. I am currently a real estate agent in the Anniston, Alabama
area. My brother, Ricky, got me watching TAGS back in the 70's as a child
and TAGS has been in and out of my TV viewing schedule ever since.

There is no other show in the history of television quite like TAGS. It is
warm, funny and most people can relate to it because it feels REAL, not
Hollywood's version of real. I was practially raised on it because it was my
dad's favorite tv show--I could practically watch any B&W episode and quote
it line for line, I have watched it so much. But it never grows old or
tiring!

Hello!
I have been married to my husband Dolph for 21 wonderful years this August
15. The Lord has blessed us with four beautiful children: Meredith(18),
Andrea(16), Dolph, Jr.(14), and John(12). God is good! We made the move to
our very own little "Mayberry" in 1996 after spending the last 14 years in
the big city. Praise the Lord! We now live on a farm and raise horses,
cattle, & a regular menagerie of critters. We love the Lord, and thank Him
for the blessings of this life. He is our Rock. And, we sure do enjoy the
Andy Griffith Show. We are partial to all the black & white episodes. They
take us back to the simpler time of our childhood, and bring to mind blessed
memories of my dear grandparents. Gotta run. It's time to watch Andy!
God bless. Susan Hargis & family

The Regal Order of the Golden Door to Good Fellowship is a private club - I
mean you have to know the password to get in (Hint: It's the same word you
use when skydiving). Private clubs get special licenses to serve the "brew"
- - at least that's the way it is in TX. I live in a dry area of Dallas but
liquor is served in many of the restaurants here but you have to buy a
so-called "membership" to buy it. I didn't buy a membership - didn't want to
"fill up" or, heaven forbid, get "tiddly".

Not sure - as this wasn't really addressed by the writers.. I do know =
that in certain dry counties in Tennessee private clubs can serve =
alcohol. Maybe this was the case for the Golden Door to Good Fellowship =
boys. Even Aunt Bee took a glass of wine or two in a later episode. Had=
she forgotten about that brother she had?
Anyway, one good part of that episode (The Lodge) is Floyd telling Howard=
about how root beer was a healthy drink invented by the Indians and =
mentions "You don't see many sick Indians" Reminds me of Colonel =
Harvey's Indian Elixir's claims about never seeing a fat Indian, wasn't =
it? Barney mentioned to Andy that he couldn't recall seeing any Indians =
at all.

Subject: Dry County
In reference to Mayberry being a dry county:
Many places are considered to be dry counties if they do not have liquor by
the drink sales. In many of these same places beer is sold by the glass.
Also, this was a private club they were in. My hometown is dry but has beer
at Pizza Hut as well as other places. Liquor is legal by the drink here
only at private clubs or BYOB at other places.

Saw the same thing myself and was tickled pink! I guess Gary Grant just
didn't catch on with the rest of the world, but he ruled in Mayberry.
As for "soothes the savage in me", Barney was talking about Ed Weems.

and taking the detective job? How exactly did he tell Ange? It must have
been hard to Ange his news of a new job and moving from those who were near
and dear to him. >>
We did see Barney do this once...they may have even had a going away party?
But that was *not* Barney's last appearance as a regular, in fact it happened
much earlier. They did not have a "departure" episode for Barney (like
Colonel Blake on M*A*S*H or Mike and Gloria on All in the Family) when he
left, perhaps because everything happened during hiatus...

Subject: Andy's Screen Door
The house I grew up in was an old two story in the southern river town of
Madison, IN. We had a long porch upstairs on one side of the house, and both
my brother's room and mine had screen doors leading to it. To this day when
I go to sleep at night in the summer and can hear the crickets outside, I
remember summers sleeping with those screen doors open. Heaven, I tell ya!
I'd give anything to have one and a house like that now. It's amazing what
you take for granted as a kid.

Dry County:
I was born and raised in a "dry" county in KY, an my dad was Deputy
Sherriff. For those of you who may not know, this doesn't mean that alcohol
possession or consumtion is illegal, it only means that the sale of alcohol
is illegal. As well as, of course drunken behavior and open contents, as in
most communities. Thus said, it is not an assumption that just because
Mayberry was in a dry county that alcohol ,itself, was illegal in the B&W
or color days; only the sale of alcohol and public drunkeness.

Hey to all!!,
I thought about another funny line...slipped my mind the other day. It's
an episode where
Aunt Bee took Opie into the courthouse and told Andy she had to buy Opie
some
new pants...Andy said something like ....boy you go through britches like
you was wearing
sandpaper underpants!!! I laughed with that one till it hurt!!! If
anyone remembers the
episode let me know. I lost my bucket and I just can't think!!!
