Hey To All!
I just got the new cd from Weaver's "Themes, Songs and Laughs from TAGS" last
week. All three of these songs are on there separately.
1.) Mayberry March... Da Ta Da Da Daaaa Da Daaa Da Daaa I believe it is
the song played on the Mayberry RFD show but it was also played in the
reunion/return to Mayberry movie. It may go back as far as the TAGS episodes
when there was a festive street music playing, I can't remember.
2.) TAGS Theme... It is the first cut on the cd. It is the song with the
whistling and finger snapping.
3.) Fishin' Hole... Sung by Andy and is quite refreshing and snappy.
Even tho the TAGS theme and the Fishin' Hole song are two different
songs/themes. To me it sounds like the basic melody is the same melody
except on has words and one doesn't. One has whistling and finger snapping
with no voice and the other doesn't. Similar tho they are different.

Well...as a school principal....I sure wish more folks would parent the
"Mayberrry way." I can't see Andy flying off to work in Raleigh on
Monday morning morning....then flying home on Friday nights to be a dad
to little Op. That seems to be happening more and more these days. And
then folks are surprised when things go haywire in their families. TAGS
is an excellent primer for parenting....I have used it for years...and I
know I'm preaching to the choir here.....but it's time we parent "not
from the book....but from the heart!.....I guess that's a little hard
for some folks to understand."
On the lighter side...two good friends of mine are police officers in
town. Their vehicles will often times be seen in our driveway while
they're over having a bottle of pop and trying to stump me and my kids
on "Griffith Trivia!" The neighbors are probably wonderin' if Earnest T
is on the loose at our house......so far....no rocks....!

Speaking of that episode where Jerry Van Dyke was deputy for a day at the
carnival...that was so funny! That got me to thinking (and that can be
dangerous!)...he would have made a GREAT replacement for Don Knotts when he
left the show!

Well......one of the funniest moments on TAGS as far as I'm concerend is
the look on Barney's face when he retrieves the book written by Count
Isvan Tellecki that he threw in the trash when everyone thought that
Opie's third wish didn't come true! That's priceless! What
confidence.....what "I told you so".... a true moment of Fifedom!

got any info? >>
Now that you mention it, I remember this about "The Manicurist" (or whatever
the episode is called). It looks like Floyd's looks right out onto the
street, as you see all the men looking into the window and then scattering
(Barney even runs out in front of a moving car).

Since there were several postings about the time Andy shot the tires out of
the counterfeiters' car, have you ever noticed where the car ends up? It
runs into a lamppost on a street that clearly has streetcar tracks! Since
there weren't any lampposts on the Mayberry Main street, they apparently
had to move the shot to another part of 40 Acres (or maybe even some other
back lot) to find a lamppost to run in to.

<< (Unrelated question: is this one of the scenes Andy and Don
used to perform at Hollywood parties in the early 60's? Seems like I heard
or read that somewhere.) >>
I specifically remember this about the famous "septic tank" scene, which
happens on Andy's front porch in the "Barney's Used Car" episode. I typed
this scene and sent it to the IMdB, by the way, under "memorable quotes"
because I thought it belonged there...
"I figured it was something they could use..."
"You're a fine son, Barn."
"I try."

Subject: Barney's gun
All the talk lately about Andy firing his gun when necessary and Barney
firing his gun when it's NOT neccessary - I got my bucket out and did some
major "thanking" under it. Here's my quesiton....how many times does Barney
pull his gun but DOESN'T fire it? The first time that comes to mind is when
he hauls Rafe Hollister in for jaywalking and when Andy says, "Good Barney.
You brought in Rafe Hollister?" Barney answers, "And I didn't even have to
fire a shot." Now we all know Barney can't pull his gun without firing it so
I was just pickled tink to see him using it but NOT firing it.... Can anyone
think of other times Barney pulls his gun but DOESN'T fire it? Get out the
buckets!
Harriet, on a chicken wing and a prayer

Hello again from Belton SC. A scene that always cracks me up is the one
where Barney is reading the Mayberry Gazzette aloud to Andy, and forgive me I
forget the name of the man Barney is reading about, but it goes something
like this,
Barney: "So and so just bought his son a new car."
Andy: "Well isn't that nice. How old is his son anyway"?
Barney: "Fifty-seven itin' he"?
Subtle, but well written. Could somebody out there tell me what episode
this is from and give the correct dialouge?
Keep a good thought,
Mark

couldn't because I was a Webtv user. So I thank her for her kindness and
"Mayberry like-ness" in doing this for us. Her kind spirit is what this

Thanks again!!!!!

Subject: Funny Scene
To me, the funniest episode, if you are strictly going for laughs and not
counting sentiments or moving moments or anything like that, just laughs, is
"Convicts at Large." We have two kings of comedy, Don Knotts
and Howard McNear, and a house full of deranged women. What more could you
ask for? And this episode delivers a rollercoaster ride of laughs.
But a particular favorite moment of mine is when Barney is trying to lure
Big Maude outside to a waiting Andy. He suggests they dance; she says she
thought he was tired of dancing. Barney then slowly, slowly rises off the
sofa, looks at Big Maude with those come hither eyes of his
and says ever so alluringly, "You're beginning to get to me." Then he does a
little something with his mouth, sort of a kissy thing, and, I swear, not
since Rhett Butler carried Miss Scarlett up those stairs have I seen a man
conquer a woman as totally as our little Barney just took control of Big
Maude Tyler (aka Claris Tyler, Maude Claris Tyler, Annabelle Tyler, and
Ralph
Henderson). All that was left for him to do was to guide her to the
land of rhythm and pleasure with that tango. And what a tango it was!
It almost made me feel sorry for Big Maude when Andy handcuffed her. Somehow
I had gotten so caught up in the tango myself, I had started to
believe Big Maude had really gotten to Barney! I did!

Hello everybody out there in Mayberry!
Just got 2 TAGS DVDs, and I wanted to tell you about them. They are GREAT! I
got "The best of Barney", and "The Best of the Andy Griffith show". They are
put out by Sterling Entertainment and are of very high quality. NICE clear
sharp picture, uncut, with all the epilogs. Has some nice extra features
too, like Mayberry music videos (musical clips from episodes), trivia, art
gallerys, all kinds of neat stuff on both discs. There are also a full 8
episodes on each DVD. A great bargain! (no, I'm not making any money off
them (/:-)
Lots of luck to you and yours,

Y'all be sure and watch that Jim Nabors segment on MSNBC on July 24. I've
met him a couple of times and he's a prince. You might also see a couple
members of the Mayberry Michigan Chapter backstage at his show in Holland,
Michigan. We got backstage to meet him and ask a few questions when low and
behold, it was us, Jim and the film crew from MSNBC Headliners and Legends.
I'm sure we'll end up on the cutting room floor, but just the same, keep
your eyes open.
