Subject: Re: Andy' Girlfriends

My family's favorite of all Andy's girlfriends has always been Mary, play=
ed by
Sue Ane Langdon. She was attracive and had a good personality, and we lov=
e
Barney's "buttin' in" when Andy is trying to get some time alone with Mar=
y. =

Barney plays his bongos (really more of a mini-conga drum), and really
"wails". Barney keeps calling Andy about a missing letter he needs to fil=
e
(while Andy is at Mary's), then shows up at her house uninvited. Barney's=

lines about pizza are great "What'l it be tonight, mozarella or pepperoni=
? You
name it, doesn't matter to me, I just like pizza." Then, when Andy finall=
y
tells him that he wants them to spend some time alone (meaning him and Ma=
ry),
Barney thinks Andy means he wants to spend time alone with him! That enti=
re
exchange is priceless and one of my favorites, Barney calls Thelma Lou to=
 tell
her, then tells Andy, "Now you call Mary. What do you want to do?" Barney=

thinks Andy is going to get engaged, and spreads the ord, as usual. Thelm=
a Lou
and Aunt Bee congratulate Andy without saying anything - "Everybody sure =
is in
a jaw-kissin' mood today". It is great! This episode (I hope someone else=
 can
provide the actual number) is one of the best of the greats, and this Mar=
y
gets our vote for favorite girlfriend. =

Thanks for stirring the memories, and try to plan not to cry at the weddi=
ng
("Don't cry Aunt Bee, if you start I'm a goner!").

Will - Who you callin' a creachter? - DuBois

Hi Folks,

There's a magazine I like called "Birds & Blooms." Each issue has a section
called "Questions Across the Fence" where readers can write in with
questions about birds or flowers, in the hopes that another reader will be
able to help them out. In the June / July issue, there's a letter from a
woman who's looking for - get this - licorice seeds! Apparently there
really is a licorice plant. The Latin name given in the magazine is
"Helichrysum petiolare." If this lady has a cap pistol or some roller
skates to trade, I know where she can get her hands on some licorice seeds.

I read of everyone's "favorite scene" or "favorite actor" but to me, the
real scenes are the Andy and Barney scenes where the real comedy comes from.
The favorite actors have to be Andy and Barney!! Who else?
Along that note, maybe Emmett can give us an update on his long time friend
and my favrite actor from the show, Andy.

Another episode where Barney drew his pistol but didn't fire was #149 - This
was the one where he was going to Hialeah to see the bangtails run and also
where Andy told him to be sure his pistol cleared his underwear. Anyway - he
pulled his pistol on the crook in the hotel but the crook convinced him he
was a FBI man. Wouldn't you just know it!!. Later in this same epidose they
are supposed to be in Barney's room where he's been given knockout drops and
is konked out on the bed - AHA - this is Opie's bed and bedspread. And they
thought we wouldn't notice. Curious Curious Curious.

I have posted a few photos on the web from the Don Knotts & Tim Conway show
Thursday night in Myrtle Beach. If you didn't get a chance to go you really
missed a great show. Don and
Tim were great together. If the two ever do a show in your area I would highly
recommend going. But for now, enjoy the photos.

I, too, think Peggy was a great match for Andy. However, who could forget
Ellie in the episode "Cyrano Andy" where Barney tries to steal her away from
Ange? I thought she was super in this one! The scene in the back room of the
drug store where she tries to seduce Barney is simply hilarious. I can't
imagine Miss Peggy doing anything like that...Come to think of it, Miss Peggy
didn't have any really funny lines or anything..she was just good to look at!
But I'm sure none of the guys were complaining! Crystal M. in AL

I read in an interview that Andy REALLY gets upset when he has to kiss a
girl. He felt comfortable kissing Helen so she became his main squeeze. My
personal favorite is Miss Peggy (played by Joanna Moore) who, like the TAGS
fan earlier said, was married to Ryan O'Neal. But do you remember seeing her
in an Elvis movie? She was the psychologist who had more than a professional
interest in Elvis in:
"Follow That Dream". She really put the moves on him. Incidentally, the guy
at the bank was played by Howard McNear (who was his fiancee's boss in "Blue
Hawaii".

<< Now I got to wondering about something the other night...do you suppose
the writers on Happy Days drew inspiration from "The Fun Girls" episode
when they dreamed up "Laverne & Shirley" ? Cos I sure do see a
resemblance! I'm speaking of when the girls were first introduced as
 dates for Ritchie and Fonzie.>>>

I never thought of that, but now that you mention it Lou Anne...I think you
are right!
The famous "It May Look Like a Walnut" episode did inspire the first "Mork"
episode, and there were similar writers, etc., so I wouldn't be the least bit
surprised if the Fun Girls didn't have some kind of influence on L&S...

<< And speaking of the fun girls, wasn't it a
hoot to see the way Aunt Bee snatched Opie back into the kitchen, out of
the wiley clutches of those two wanton women?! Sure cracked me up!!!
 ~the bucket wearing misspoovey~ >>

That is one of my all-time favorite scenes...Aunt Bee just seems scandalized!!

Hi!
I have to admit I have never been much of a fan of Helen. I just always
felt Ellie Walker was the best for Andy. Tonight, however, I saw Helen in a
little different light. It was the episode where Andy and Helen were
getting away from it all with the assistance of Barney. Howard Morris
directed it and even played a bit part as a TV repairman. I really thought
she nailed the character home. I guess I still like Ellie the best but I am
warming up to Helen somewhat.

Thanks for readin'!
