I've never seen this mentioned in the digest before and just thought I'd
ask...Is 'Crime Free Mayberry' the first episode that Mayor Pike appeared
in?
>>>

Nope, he appeared way back in episode #2, "The Manhunt" (the character did
not yet have a name at that point, he was simply called "Mayor.")
"Crime-Free Mayberry" was #39. His final episode was #48, "The Manicurist."
Both Dick Elliot and Cheerio Meredith (Emma) died shortly after that episode
was filmed.

There was a slight resemblance, but they're two different actors. Thelma
Lou played Betty Lynn; Peggy McCay played Sharon DuSpain. Ms. McCay is best
known for her role of Caroline Brady on the long-running "Days of Our
Lives."

Hi all,

Someone was wondering when that episode in which Aunt Bee learns to fly, was
supposed to appear on TV Land? It appears Tuesday, August 1st at 10 Eastern,
during "Twice as Nice Mornings."

do to Ernest T if we ever caught up with him......."Quit that

man with the hex!" Or......"Fly away buzzard....fly away crow....off in

winks and save us from this awful jinx!" Or perhaps my
favorite......"Come fish come....come fish come....Sam's at the gate

Subject: Re: Confliction in years

To reply to Newland's calculations, I would say he was figuring Andy to have
been born in 1945. Actually that was his high school graduation year.
Since he graduated in 1945, he was probably as young as 17 or as old as 18
which would have made him about 33 or 34 years old in 1961. Frank Meyers'
bond was 100 years old would be about right having been issued in 1861. Its
been a long time since I've had American History but North Carolina was
probably a part of the Confederacy in 1861 and the issue of the bond being
100 years old would probably be correct.

There are several inconsistencies throughout the series. There was another
episode (#176, "The Return of Barney Fife") where he returns for another
class reunion and this episode shows they graduated in 1948.

Another conflict was episode numbers 106 ("Citizen's Arrest") and 131
(Barney's Physical). In "Citizen's Arrest" Andy and Barney are going
through some old records and Andy finds a receipt he had issued Barney for
his first gun 10 years ago and they discussed Barney's tenure of being on
the Sheriff's Department for 10 years. Then in "Barney's Physical" they had
the surprise party to celebrate Barney's 5th Anniversary with the Sheriff's
Department and they gave him a stainless steel waterproof wristwatch with
"5" inscribed on the back. And the list of inconsistencies goes on.

Sharon DeSpain was Peggy McKay. She was cute but she was a little fish in a
big pond and Andy was a big fish in a little pond. There were more fish in
the sea but that's another story. He sure did plant one on her though didn't
he?

Here's one you may or may not know. When was the FIRST time Otis was
arrested for public intoxication - I want the year and place. Barney and
Andy refernce it in an episode I recently watched - I would have missed
it for sure (until now). "Go, on, GUESS .."

It was great to read Teresa's comment about her 17-year-old son, his dirty
laundry, and his "valoose." He must be a great kid! I too, occasionally write
the digest with the things my 4 kids say, based on the fact they've been
raised with Andy and Barney. I think TAGS is as important as milk!
I just got a new digital phone that allows you to make a little message on
the number screen when you're not on a call. I have had it programmed to say
"Hello, Doll," but my 16-year-old daughter was messing around with it the
other day. Now it says, "Call the man."
Too bad your son is already spoken for, Teresa!

Help! I remember a few years ago, a rap parody of TAGS came out. I wanted
to see if anyone remembered it, and maybe had an MP3 or something.

Near as I can figure, it had one verse in it spoken by Barney:

"I'm Deputy Fife, the law is my life-
you could say it's in my blood,
Cause whenever there is trouble, I'm there on the double
to nip-it-in-the-bud!"

Puh-leeze tell me I am not losing my mind.

Being reacquainted with GOMER PYLE, USMC on TV Land has made me "thank":

Did the program ever reveal in which STATE of the USA Gomer's marine base
was located?

As a North Carolina native I've always assumed it was in NC, since the
eastern part of NC has many military bases and since Andy drove Gomer to the
base in the TAGS pilot for Gomer's spinoff. But on some episodes of USMC
there seems to be the implication that the base is located elsewhere,
perhaps California (although that's obviously where it was filmed).

Back Home again in Indiana there were a few times I saw him from a distance
my friend recently gave me a copy of the Indianapolis Star May 28, 2000 and
Jim was the grand marshal of the parade the day before the 500 and the whole
crowd were singing Back Home Again and Jim has quite a smile on his face.
Next year my friend has credentials to get in near the celeb's and drivers
and for sure I will be trying to get his autograph and also mention the RWC.

Uh, OK, so, maybe it was the cider that went bad. I guess I was just getting
so caught up in the years for Andy, I just never got to thinkin' again. It
could have been that Ice Cream I had. It gave me one of those quick eating
Ice Cream headaches, and just never thought properly again, at least while I
was watching the two episodes that got me confused on the age situation.
After I had thought about it, it was already too late, and sent. At least I
know that people are reading the digest, and really paying attention to what
is in them. Thanks for all the help in the addition. And to think, I have a
Bachelors in electronics, a math stronghold. Oh, well, sometimes.......it's
something that my late great father used to say....think before you speak.
Thanks again to all who corrected me.

I have a question about Episode 154: Aunt Bee's Invisible Beau. I was watching
it
last night and Andy was reading a newspaper in one part and I thought it said
Mt.
Airy news.. well actually all I caught was Airy News but assumed Mt. Airy.. and
living here in Mt. Airy it caught my eye.. I've never noticed it before in that
episode or any others.. So was I seeing things or did Andy read the Mt. Airy
News
paper in this episode or any others???

Subject: Andy fires Gun

Hey All,
I seem to remember not too long ago the disscusion on
the times Andy actually fired a gun. The three times
that were mentioned were...A fued is a fued (Fires gun
in air),Gentleman Dan Caldwell (He thinks Barneys gun
was empty),and then there was the colorized version(He
shot at some bank robbers tires or something)...But
how bout this one, just for thought. Episode #80 High
noon in Mayberry. Although it isn't actually shown,it
is mentioned that Andy shot and wounded Luke Comstock
in the leg. I hope this counts, after all ya'll allowed
the colorized version to count. Don't worry though,I
wont get upset over a technicality, but if I clear my
throat,tug at my collar,and tap my holster,everybody
better look out.
OH Brother ...No it don't have to be a brother it can
be a cousin like me.
