It looks like the TVLand Ultimate Fan Search is going to be pre-empting Andy
and Beaver tonight at 10 EST. They advertise it as going for three weeks!
Do they mean that every night for three weeks they will pre-empt my favorite
shows?? How will I unwind and the end of the day and know that all is right
with the world and it's safe to go to sleep??

winks and save us from this awful jinx!" Or perhaps my
favorite......"Come fish come....come fish come....Sam's at the gate

These are sure fire survival tips for today's rennaisance 14 year old!
And remember...."most every book on child rearin' is in favor of bud

Yes - and he's had his bud nipped on several occasions. He's really a good
kid - he's just "cautious". I love the above lines. Barney denies being
superstitious but I have my suspicions about that. I think he hung around
the Darlings too much.

Regarding recent pondering about when Andy shot a gun - I remember that he
shot "AT" crows trying to impress Thelma Lou's cousin but he didn't hit any.
Said he didn't lead them enough. Poor guy - he didn't know he was dealing
with Annie Okra.

I can't believe I found someone who had a nagging criticism about Aunt Bee.
(By the way, shouldn't it be Aunt Bea - short for Beatrice?). Though I
usually loved her, there were times when I thought she was kind of bossy,
too. Like when she was Aunt Bee the Warden, I didn't really like her
attitude. "Get to it!" I found myself feeling a little sorry for poor old
Otis. True, he had a problem, but I thought she was being too judgmental in
that episode. I have heard that she really didn't like Andy Griffith until
later in her life, so maybe this attitude came through in that episode...
She was so funny and so kind in other episodes - all those times when she
brought food for Otis and the other prisoners, but sometimes that "bossiness"
did come through!
Here I am, gossipping, as though I was in the drug store with all the girls!

In how many episodes is the town "Texarkana" mentioned?

Allan & All - I've been back from a month's vacation in Illinois, and trying
to get caught up on all my digests. (Next time I go on vacation, I'll try to
remember to ask somebody if there is a way to stop them TEMPORARILY - I was
afraid if I stopped them, I wouldn't be able to get back - can you tell I'm a
newcomer to the internet?)
While I've been reading all the back issues, I've tried not to reply, because
they probably were done to death while I was gone. But sometimes I couldn't
resist. I'm feeling really guilty about agreeing about Aunt Bea's being
bossy - I think I broke Rule #2 - but I didn't really mean to. Even though
Aunt Bea's character made me mad at times, Mayberry wouldn't be the same
without her, now would it?
Thanks for starting this web site, Allan - somehow, reading all the messages
makes me feel better about life. I was feeling kind of down about a personal
problem, and now after being on the digest, I feel a little better. :)

'Tis a dark, dark day here in my home. How could they?? Of all the scenes
to cut. I know, I know....we're lucky to have the shows on TVLand and Nick,
we're lucky to have the block party, we're lucky to have the endings
restored...blah blah blah. But nothing, NOTHING justifies cutting out the
"giraffes are selfish" speech! I was sitting there, waiting, watching,
listening....all ready for it, laughing in anticipation even, and then BAM!
It was like someone knocked me in the head! For shame, Nick, for shame. :-(

Andy does get his pole back in this one. Mayor Stoner shows up at Andy's=

Jake, no sir you were not seeing thing's. That was something that I had
never noticed until lastnight either. I remember seeing him read the
newspaper before, but it had never been close enough or clear enough for me
to actually see what the name of the paper was, at least until lastnight.
Now, was this the paper that came out on Wednesday only, or was that the
Mayberry paper? Maybe Paul could help us out, or maybe Allan.

Subject: More Triplets
We've been having a lot of fun with triplet spotting at our house!
Here are a couple more that I don't remember seeing mentioned in the Digest
yet.
In "Mountain Wedding" (and other Ernest T. episodes) Ange and Barn and
another character stand gazing at Ernest T. Bass dance wildly off into the
distance. Andy says something like: "That Ernest T. Bass is a strange and
weird character." Briscoe or somebody: "He's just plain ornery." And Barney
always chimes in with the third remark: "He's a NUT!"
My fine 11-year-old son thought of another, when Barney goes on about giving
that interloper "the big freeze" in "The Cow Thief." Twice from Barn, "You
know what he's gonna get from me? The big freeze." Then after the lawman
arrives and butters Barney up, Barn falls all over himself trying to please
him, and Andy says: "Remember now--the big freeze!"

August 5 is the first day of a Possum Festival in the Florida panhandle town
of Wausau. The town pays tribute to the "pos-tum" under the rock. There
will be a parade, king and queen possum crowned, arts and crafts, cloggers,
corn pone baking contest, hog-calling and rooster-crowing contests. It's
free but you'll have to bring your own rock!
Harriet, I'm not making this up! It's true, it's true! I saw the writen
word!
