As one of the world's leading authorities on Johnny Coons, I was absolutely floored when I read Emmett's Fix-it Shop Talk in The Bullet that came yesterday. The man who we have always thought was named Johnny Coons wasn't Johnny at all. Our favorite extra's name is Tom Jacobs!!! And what's more, he was Danny Thomas's brother!!! Now where did this epiphany come from? None other than George Lindsey. Well, you need to read the article, it is interesting how the mystery was solved. And there is even a picture taken on the set with our "Johnny" aka Tom. dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 08:03:52 -0400 From: "Dan Goodwin/Jobscope" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: What's that song The other night I was wallpapering an aunt's house and had the radio on for entertainment. As I usually do, it was tuned to a gospel station. All of a sudden I was aware that the instrumental they were playing was really, really familiar but it wasn't one that I was brought up on in church. So what did I finally figure it out to be? Yep, "Sinners Lose All Their Guildy Stains." I just didn't recognize it without a little courthouse harmony. dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 08:15:45 CST From: "The Hendersons" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Ther Prize Fighter and Private Eyes What are y'all talkin' about when you all are mentioning "The Prize Fighter" and "Private Eyes"? Are they movies that are fixin' to get ready to come out, or episodes that don't ring a bell with me? Or old movies, like when Andy did "A Face in the Crowd", etc.? thanks for you answers. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 10:08:23 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Songs and Triplets II'm guessing that Andy's favorite song which is not to be confused with leg-o-lamb (Andy's favorite dish) is "We Shall Meet but We Shall Miss Him" or "Sourwood Mountain". As for triplets - how about the epilogue to "High Noon in Mayberry". Andy, Barney, and Otis all say "Tick-a-lock" in succession. This episode has so many really funny moments as well as seriousness and a wonderful caring scene between Andy and Opie. "Are you scared Pa" - little Opie's concern for his Pa was so touching. And Gomer was a hooty-hoot. As serious as Barney thought the situation was and Otis was scared to death - Gomer thought it was just something fun to do. He was to wear plain clothes but wasn't confident that his suit was "plain" enough (it had a little pin stripe) and when Barney handed him a shotgun he playfully pointed it at Otis and also right in Barney's face. Also when he surprised Barney outside Andy's house and Barney backed up and fell into the bushes - LMHO. This is an episode when we get to see Aunt Bee's room but this time she goes to bed with her hair "up" and not brushed out. Linda - This Goober has a plain beanie and a Sunday-go-to-meetin' beanie. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Aug 2000 09:07:46 -0500 From: Nancy Thornton <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Andy's Favorite song Hey Paul, Is it "Ole Mule, you Kickin Mule" that's probably not the correct title but at least its the first words Nancy ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Aug 2000 10:25:45 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: how do I sign up for a chapter in Louisville Dear Allan,I've been a member of the wbmutbb for about a year now,I would like to know, since I live in Louisville,is there somehow I could join a local chapter here in Louisville,I still would like to be a member of the wbmutbb, but also I would like to join a group here in Louisville.Mayberry fan in Louisville David<danielsdandav46>Daniels,Good luck to you in yours. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 13:09:45 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Johnny Lightning squad cars Hey All, My better half just returned from a trip to Kaybee Toys with my sons and su-prise, su-prise, su-prise, he brought me a present -- a 2-for-1 pack of Johnny Lightning metal television cars. One was the Partridge Family Bus, the other the Mayberry squad car. Any of you folks live near such a store might want to try to get right over and see if they have any -- if was only $4.99 for the pair! I know he did it when Jim Lindsay came to supper and again on Matlock and it's on a couple of the CDs I have of him. That ever-present resident of our beloved hometown is really someone else and a relative of a famous actor and personality?! Somehow the credits are mixed up? Paul, what do you know about this? Have others shared their stories and/or memories with the chapter? Thanks! "Good luck to you and yers!" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The Andy stuff they've got is nice to see, but it is mostly the same stock as Weaver's. They've got a May 20, 1967 TV Guide with Andy and Helen on the cover for $25 in the basket by the door, but I already had one of those. A lot of neat 50's and 60's collectible stuff in the shop - made a rainy afternoon at the resort town a bit more enjoyable for us. By the way, I think Saugatuck is an Indian word for "bring lots of cash" I burned through ten dollars faster than Barney and Cousin Virgil did in Raleigh, let me tell you. She's a skeet shooter PLUS the former Annie Oakley! I liked it better when somebody called her Annie Okra a coupl'a digests ago, course I haven't had my lunch yet. Cousin Karen sure let Andy dig himself a deep hole when he was going on and on and on about "cover your ears", delicate females and all, didn't she? Catching up on my digests after being out of town for a couple of days. We were ready to leave our hotel yesterday and head back from our little family vacation, except that at 10:30 one of my favorite color episodes was just coming on( "The Wedding" featuring Howard and his crazy bachelor pad.) It makes me laugh myself to death watching Howard buying dimmer switches, bear skin rugs and bead curtains to update his dwelling after his mother leaves. He asks the boys to "name their poison" at his new bar, but the hardest stuff he's got (a bit of the bubbly) is some cider that is thinking about turning hard soon. Howard attempting to explain modern art and floor sitting pillows to Goober is another highlight. The whole party scene is equally wild, with Helen getting worn out in a frenzied attempt to dance with Howard, Goober and Andy. Finally Emmett's arrival and his outrageous dance steps with Howard yelling GO MAN GO! puts the topper on a totally bizarre episode. Though in the works for a while, the day-long event was confirmed on=20 fairly short notice. And it is already star-studded. As The Bullet was going= =20 to press, these stars were confirmed: Betty Lynn, The Original Dillards,=20 Maggie Peterson Mancuso, Howard Morris, Bernard Fox, Elinor Donahue, Jean=20 Carson, Kit McNear (son of Howard McNear), Ronnie Schell, Elizabeth MacRae=20 and Barbara Stuart. That=E2=80=99s already an impressive list of 14 top stars, but Judge Lair= d=E2=80=99s=20 Mayberry campaign is just getting warmed up. We have every reason to believe= =20 that Judge Laird=E2=80=99s Mayberry Family Reunion will end up being the sin= gle=20 largest public gathering ever of people who worked on =E2=80=9CThe Andy Grif= fith=20 Show.=E2=80=9D By the way, Judge Laird is running for the Alabama State Supreme Court. We=20 don=E2=80=99t even know who his worthy opponent is. Oh, and did we happen to mention to you fine registered Alabama voters an= d=20 all others that this entire celebration is FREE? Yes, that=E2=80=99s right,=20= FREE, no=20 charge at all for admission! That was the decision handed down by Judge Joel= =20 Laird, candidate for Alabama Supreme Court. It is a truly groundbreaking=20 ruling that is sure to have Mayberry fans flocking to the Oak Mountain=20 Amphitheater on October 7. (Though the event itself is free, you will need a= =20 ticket to get in to the event. Also, bring funds for food and beverage. Plus= =20 vendors selling licensed Mayberry items will be on hand; some take credit=20 cards, others take just cash and checks.) The exact schedule of events is not set yet, but the amphitheater is=20 scheduled to open in the morning with a great variety of family-oriented=20 entertainment and activities with the Mayberry stars that concludes with a=20 finale evening concert. (By the way, the amphitheater is located next to the= =20 Oak Mountain State Park, at Exit 246 on I-65, just south of Birmingham. No=20 sponsoring hotel or airline has yet been determined, but there are many=20 national hotel chains with locations near the site and lots of airlines with= =20 connections to Birmingham.)
