Howdy to you and yours!

In reference to the wonderful character actor Parley
Baer....doesn't He also go by "Vernon Jump"? and ain't
he related to WKRP in Cincinatti's (and Maytag Man)
Gordon Jump? I remember a Christmas episode on WIC
that featured Mr. Baer/Jump....

Hey Ya'll ! Was watchin Gomer Pyle USMC; it was an episode where his
Gramma Pyle had come for a visit. Well, Gramma looked just like Mrs
Mendlebright! Maybe they're twins, with one marrying into the Pyles and
the other into the Mendlebrights! :-)

Subject: Where Did TVLand TAGS at 9p (CT) Go?

Hey To All!
I got ready last night to pile in my bed and watch the nightly TAGS at 9p
(CT) before reading until bedtime. Much to my disappointment, it wasn't on
last night but a game show. Is this just during a sweeps period maybe?
Where did it go? Will I get to be treated to my bedtime TAGS ever again? I
felt like someone nipped my evening bedtime treat in the bud! I was lucky
enough to have my Columbia House TAGS videos that I popped in but I am so
disappointed...what is TVLand thinking?? Seems like there would be a more
perkier time to put on this game show.

Okay, done venting...hope I wasn't breaking any rules.

In response to Mr. Dubois' question, I first noticed the comment about
Otis and the Garden Party arrest (his first on record) early in the
beginning of "A Case Of The Punch In The Nose" episode when Barney and
Andy were sorting though files and papers. I have the Columbia House
video of this and to be honest, I never even caught this early
conversation between Andy & Barney until the other day! I seem to
remember that episode starting 'more or less' in the moments that
follow. Perhaps it's the Columbia House tape, or I just never noticed
(most likely) either way, it caught my attention! As far as the episode
when Otis exclaimed he had never been arrested before, good point, and
what I think we have here is simply a matter of 'episodal' error.
I'm still waiting to hear who said "when I get married it's going to be

My son recently ordered for me on VHS, "The Prize Fighter" from Amazon,
$16.95. It ships in 4-6 weeks as soon as production is finished.

Also Amazon will also have a re-release of "Private Eyes", October 10, 2000.

I just don't want any Mayberrians on our list paying a high price for these
two tapes currently being offered on numerous auction web sites.

Thanks, Jim

I got Prize Fighter from Amazon.com and no you weren't dreaming it last
night. And on Amazon.com, it said that The Private Eyes will be coming out
on October 10, 2000.

Just read in a local paper today that Don Knotts is the new voice of the
Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau. Audiotapes he
recorded will be used on the agency's answering machine and Web site to
encourage tourism in his West Virginia hometown. If anyone can do it,
our Barney can! It's great to see Don being so active and involved in
many things. Mary Grace in Georgia

I think thats is Rose(Andy and Opies first housekeeper)playing the part of
Clara Lyndsay isn't it on"Those gossiping men"and also what about Allan
Melville he's played anything from an escape convict to a city house
detective.I've also seen others on there to who's played different parts like
Mr.O'Malley,he also played a store owner in the episode "The great filling
station robbery".Theres others to but I can't think of any more right now,my
computer is down for right now and I'm using the local librarys computer right
now,but when I think of some more I will write them down and send it off
through the librarys until my computer comes back up again.Goodluck to you and
yours, golllllly and shazam and Goober says hey.Mayberry fan in Louisville, bye

Subject: A Happy Gold Truck Watching Woman

You're right, Miss Poovey, I can go to my reward a happy woman (sucking
on a chocolate pickle) now that I have finally seen my Aunt Bee fly that
air plane! (Just don't want it to be anytime too soon--too many people might
miss me!)
But Aunt Bee was wrong! She did lots of wonderful things. Like grow an
awarding winning rose, try her hand at her own business, travel to another
country, have her own cooking show, entertain international guests in her
home, co-write a song that was sung on TV by a famous singer, and win a
houseful of prizes on a TV game show, to mention but a
few of her accomplishments.
Last, but not least, this lady raised a whole bunch of children, not the
least of whom are our good Sheriff and his wonderful son, Opie. They'd
do any mother proud. There she was living in other people's
houses (and I bet not everybody treated her as kindly as our Andy did),
doing what for a lot of people is a thankless job. Remember the first
episode when she told Andy that she got down on her knees and thanked heaven
that after all those children she had raised, she now had a place to go? She
must have had, in some ways, the loneliest sort of life. Now, I'm talking
about her probably being lonely before Mayberry. After Mayberry, I
don't think this lady ever had a free moment to think about loneliness.
But when she was much younger, and maybe living with those who didn't
appreciate what she was doing for them...I can see it. But she hung in there
and made a glorious life for herself.
I'd never use "sweet" to describe
her; she's too feisty for that. But she is good and noble and honest and
generous almost to a fault. And we could all use some of that kind of
raising.
Laura Lee Hobbs, dime store clerk & gold truck watcher extraordinare, and a
raiser three fine ones herself
Opie: "What'll happen to her? She doesn't know how to fish or play baseball
or anything. She's helpless." (Not really, Opie. Not really.)

Hey Ya'll,
Not Long ago it was mentioned that Aunt Bea was a
little "bossy" with Otis in the episode of Aunt Bee
the warden. Well who amongst us can recall a "bossy"
relative in our past. Wheather it was an aunt, mom or
whoever, and who among us can't agree that it really
did us good to have some direction and disipline in
our life. We did'nt appreciate it then, but in the long
run it made us wonderful human beings. Just look how
it turned Otis around! Besides she did make everything
right with Andy and I guess thats really all that
matters. So I say we just leave her Bea,Bee,Be,or B.

I'm having lunch with Don Knotts a week from Saturday at a charity fund
raising event he is participating in. I thought I would ask the group
for a question to ask him concerning his days with TAGS. So, if you have
a burning question, let me know and I will pick the one I think is best.
(The judge's decision is final.)

I'll report the answer and any other thoughts in a later digest.

All the best to you and yours.

>>>Well Paul, if it's the same song I'm thinkin' about, it makes Briscoe

>>>

Nope, that's not the one I'm thinking of. We do hear that song in three
episodes, but Andy only did it once, as I recall ("Guest in the House.")
There's another episode in which he does "I'm Just a Poor Wayfaring
Stranger," which is quite similar.

>>>To Paul's trivia question about which song was Andy's favorite. Was it
"Get Along Home Cindy Cindy"? I know he sang it on multiple episodes.
>>>

Nope again, he only does that one two or three times. And before somebody
else takes a stab at it, it's not The Crawdad Song either.

I only remember Charlene singin' that one, Rafe! I thought it would be
something like "Sinners Lose All Their Guilty Stains" (I've been known to be
wrong!) :-)
