I thought the movie "Pleasantville" was sort of entertaining but very wierd. I know he's an actor doing his job, but it sorta hurt hearing Ol' Barn actually using profanity. Reverend Tucker would of thought up a whole different "Sermon For The Day". Am I the only prude in the bunch? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 21:40:38 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: To: Chip Morris Ask Don Knotts which episode really tugged at his heartstrings the most. The one episode that's his most sentimental favorite? That get's my vote. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 22:14:16 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #267, character rolls Those character parts kept popping around all the time, didn't they? And have you noticed - they do that a lot in today's sitcoms, too? You see a character from one sitcom showing up in another - maybe sometime there'll be a digest where people are "catching" all the different characters, as well as the mistakes the writers make. Hope the writers are as good as sport as Harvey, don't you? Believe it or not, I really like some of today's shows - but there'll never be another Andy, right, gang? P.S. Alan, aren't you proud of me? No more bud-nippin' on my account! :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 22:18:31 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: 40th Anniversary Mayberry Family Reunion: Oct 7th Hey Folks, sorry about the formating problem the last time I sent this to you. Hopefully I'll learn to use this email stuff someday. :-) Here is it again for those that wanted a clean copy. -- Allan *****40th Anniversary Mayberry Family Reunion***** Rest up quickly after Mayberry Days, folks, because our unofficial 40th Anniversary celebration for TAGS continues the next weekend (Oct. 7) as Judge Joel Laird Presents a 40th Anniversary Mayberry Family Reunion at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Birmingham, Ala. Though in the works for a while, the day-long event was confirmed on fairly short notice. And it is already star-studded. As The Bullet was going to press, these stars were confirmed: Betty Lynn, The Original Dillards, Maggie Peterson Mancuso, Howard Morris, Bernard Fox, Elinor Donahue, Jean Carson, Kit McNear (son of Howard McNear), Ronnie Schell, Elizabeth MacRae and Barbara Stuart. That's already an impressive list of 14 top stars, but Judge Laird's Mayberry campaign is just getting warmed up. We have every reason to believe that Judge Laird's Mayberry Family Reunion will end up being the single largest public gathering ever of people who worked on "The Andy Griffith Show." By the way, Judge Laird is running for the Alabama State Supreme Court. We don't even know who his worthy opponent is. We're sure he's a nice enough fellow and all, but it's Judge Joel Laird who has chosen to make this Mayberry event a heartfelt focus of his campaign. (TAGSRWC is pleased to be a sponsor of the reunion event as well.) To a lot of folks, that decision by Judge Laird says a lot about the man and the special nature and depth of his wisdom and insight. (Because we're a fun-loving social/entertainment organization, TAGSRWC has an unwritten policy of not endorsing candidates or getting involved in politics, so we'll let Alabama's wise registered voters draw their own conclusions about being sure to vote Laird for Justice on November 7.) Oh, and did we happen to mention to you fine registered Alabama voters and all others that this entire celebration is FREE? Yes, that's right, FREE, no charge at all for admission! That was the decision handed down by Judge Joel Laird, candidate for Alabama Supreme Court. It is a truly groundbreaking ruling that is sure to have Mayberry fans flocking to the Oak Mountain Amphitheater on October 7. (Though the event itself is free, you will need a ticket to get in to the event. Also, bring funds for food and beverage. Plus vendors selling licensed Mayberry items will be on hand; some take credit cards, others take just cash and checks.) The exact schedule of events is not set yet, but the amphitheater is scheduled to open in the morning with a great variety of family-oriented entertainment and activities with the Mayberry stars that concludes with a finale evening concert. (By the way, the amphitheater is located next to the Oak Mountain State Park, at Exit 246 on I-65, just south of Birmingham. No sponsoring hotel or airline has yet been determined, but there are many national hotel chains with locations near the site and lots of airlines with connections to Birmingham.) For more information or to reserve your free tickets (all general admission) for your family (the amphitheater seats 10,000 in actual seats and can accommodate many more on the lawn), call Judge Joel Laird's Ticket Hotline at (256) 231-0071 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.. You can also find updated information (including the lineup of TAGS stars) between now and the event at www.tagsrwc.com or at www.joellaird.com. Or send a SASE to TAGSRWC's HQ in Nashville and we'll mail the updated information to you. What a wonderful one-two punch for surrounding the 40th Anniversary on October 3-Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy, Sept. 28 to 30, and then Judge Joel Laird Presents a 40th Anniversary Mayberry Family Reunion in Birmingham on October 7. Make your plans today for what are sure to be outstanding and unforgettable Mayberry celebrations. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 22:16:56 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #267, Aunt Bee's accomplishments Don't forget her acting triumph in The Little Princess, under the direction of Reverend Felcher. :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2000 22:23:49 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #267, in defense of Aunt I confess! It was really funny - and I always wanted to know where they got the music they were dancing to, until Emmett came by and showed them what it was all about. Remember when Helen tries to get Andy to dance at Opie's jr. high dance? Was that a "made-up" song that they used? So far, I haven't heard anybody talk about the "secret ingredient" episode. Loved that one, too. Always makes me hungry for spaghetti. :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Aug 2000 07:45:54 -0400 From: "Dan Goodwin/Jobscope" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: TAGS Bible Study Well, it's official, the First Baptist Church of Mauldin, SC will begin the TAGS Bible Study Series on August 30 as part of its Wednesday night PowerTrak schedule. Yours truly will be the instructor and we're set to run through November 15. If all goes well, we will then pick back up after Jan 1 and continue on through the spring. Are they movies that are fixin' to get ready to come out, or episodes that don't ring a bell with me? >>> These were movies that Don Knotts and Tim Conway made in 1979 amd 1980. They did four films together, the other two being Apple Dumpling Gang movies. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Aug 2000 08:38:37 -0500 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: not Johnny Coons? >>>Hey, how about this news from the Bullet that the man we've all been noticing and referring to as Johnny Coons is not who he is at all? ... Paul, what do you know about this? >>> I'll bow to Jim on this one, since he got the new information directly from George Lindsey. For those who don't know what we're talking about, see the back cover of the new Bullet. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Aug 2000 11:40:48 -0400 From: "Paul Gilkes" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: County, Town, Township, City Being a journalist that has counted covering government goings-on as one of his beats, I've always been intrigued by the government hierarchy in Mayberry and how it has a life of its own. Watching yesterday's TAGS episode about Sam Jones being drafted to run for the head of City Council finally prompted me to touch on this subject. I wonder if other TAGS aficionados have wondered the same thing. Sam's running for head of City Council, although Mayberry is often referred to as a town and its residents as townspeople. Sam's head of City Council, but there's no discussion of a mayor. I've heard Andy on many an occasion referring to he and Barney drawing their paychecks from the county during the time period when a mayor appears in episodes. Howard Sprague is the County Clerk, but I watched one episode where he was in the clerk's office in the courthouse with Andy eying a new female county employee, mentions something about the city council, and the safe behind the counter where I would reckon records are kept says Mayberry Township on it. I guess Bill Clinton and Al Gore are not the only ones trying to "Reinvent the Government."
