Yep - he said it alright - I remember a past discussion about it and the
writer said he did. We all decided to forgive him because, after all, this
is Mayberry. If we can't forgive falling shorts - who can.

Hi everyone!

I don't post that often but wanted to share the following with you.

I was lucky enough to get a new computer the other day that has an optical
mouse. Instead of a little ball in a socket that eventually gets clogged with
dust, this mouse has a red light that shines out of the bottom which detects
movement.

What's this got to do with TAGS? I think it entirely fitting that my mousepad
bears the image of one who was so up to date with modern technology in his
crime fighting efforts (Remember the intercoms in the cells?). I'm sure most
of you have seen it, but it also bears the stern notice, "This computer
protected by Fife."

One other quick note. My wife is a very successful cross stitch designer. We
recently had T-shirts and sweatshirts made for her company (click here <<A
HREF="http://www.heartinhand.com/gift.html";>Heart in Hand Needleart Gift Items
</A>> if you'd like a gander). I knew we had finally found the right silk
screening company when we walked into their showroom. They are the same
company that does many of the TAGS T-shirts, sweaters, varsity jackets, etc.!

Take care all!

Once Betty Lynn said Andy got real upset over an episode and hit a wall. He
broke his hand, so the writers put it into a script!

We just returned from the Mayberry Reunion show in
Pigeon Forge. What a great event! We had the good
fortune of staying at the Echota Resort. David
Browning and our own Alan Newsome were in fine
form, and what a pleasure it was to see Betty Lynn and
Maggie Petersen looking so wonderful. The Dillards
were fabulous, and James Best's poetry was touching.
David, if you are reading this, all of your Alamance
County fans are looking forward to seeing you this
Thursday evening at the Burlington Indians game.

In the three TAGS books I have, it lists Herb Ellis as the guitar player!

They MIGHT be right, but all of the TAGS books have mistakes in them (some
seem to have at least one mistake per page; others are much more accurate).
I doubt if any of the authors consulted Earle Hagen, and since he himself
told me it was Barney Kessel, that's good enough for me.

I noticed that after the episode"Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C"this is the episode
where Gomer joins the marines he's on seven more episodes of the Andy
Griffith show after he joins. Is this another contradiction on the Tags.
>>>

This is not really a mistake, it is the result of the fact that most TV
stations do not show the episodes in the correct original order. The
episodes were FILMED in one order, but they were originally AIRED in a
slightly different order. Most stations choose to air them in the filmed
order (I guess 'cause they just don't know any better).

The episode in question was filmed as episode #107, but it was aired as
#127, the final episode of the fourth season. They had to film it early so
that the GP-USMC crew would have plenty of time to start work on the new
series, which premiered later that year.

Yep - I think Gary's got her even if she DOES jump. That's half of the
humor behind Barney's character. Oh I know you all knew that - Now come on
foks - sometimes Barn might pretend to know about something when he really
doesn't. I didn't want to make a big moulage about it and get everybody
all excited though. Good Job Gary. That's a trained noticer observation if
I've ever seen one.

Hi To All!
I was the subject to this post? I changed my subject back to a TAGS subject
and what my previous post to Digest 274 was, so everyone could be involved.

This is one of my favorite episodes and this is how the list is presented..
Andy: Hey, Gomer! Did Wally check the car over?

Gomer: He went through he with as fine a tooth comb as you can imagine. She
is gonna need....

The after the list Gomer shows the sawdust...
Gomer: Oh here is something....sawdust.

I guess I am missing the point as yes Gomer brought in the sawdust and
Wally's list. My previous post stated it was Wally's post... Let me get my
bucket out, I don't know what more to say. Honking in Peace here!

Guess I will go back to the pickle stash,

Hey To All,
I think Andy would have known the "by the book" title as he is such a key
member of the choir (or is it chorus?) and Andy Taylor seemed very well
versed in the area of music in his knowledge and talent. I feel sure that
the choir/chorus would have had occasion to sing this song from time to time
for Andy to be familiar.

This post reminds me of two other "classic moments in comedy history".
1.) When Andy asks Barney about accapella singing and Barn starts singing the
word over and over to his own tune!
2.) When Andy asks Barney to tell him, Aunt Bee and Opie about the
Emancipation Proclamation. Gee looky there I have a spot on my shirt!

Subject: Barneys girlfriends

It seems we talked about who was the best girlfriend suited for Andy, but what
about Barney who do you all think would be best suited for Barney:There was
Hilda Mae,and Miss Rosemary(I don't know her last name)and then there was
Skippy(you know one of those wild women, aka the fun girls)and
Thelma-Lou(Barneys girl that lasted the longest)Juanita(she was never seen on
the show but Barney always called her on the phone)and then Melissa Stevens(she
was the one that tricked Barney into proposing to her)and Ellie Walke(Barney
tryed to steal Ellie from Andy that one episode where Baney meets Thelma-Lou
and Thelma-Lou trys to make Barney jealous using Andy as the scapegoat).Which
one do you all think would've been best suited for Barney.(I think there was a
total of eight for Barney).Goodluck to you and yours,Mayberry fan in

Hey Paul, I have always thought Rafe cussed in that episode, too! I'm sure
it wasn't scripted, though.

Hey Mr. Fatman - Mr. Bighead here. I believe the Learn A Month or
Mechanics Monthly magazine was somethow involved. Your topic is very much
worth further studyin' on, here's a summary I prepared three or four years
ago. I like to chew my cabbage twice every now and again and trot out one
of these old favorites. Apologies to those who I've forced to read this
before. (Well now, if you don't want to post it, Goober....OH I'll DO IT)

==================Begin Stale Circa 1997 Quoted Text Here===============

That's on my list of inconsistent points in the series - makes watching
even more fun for me to spot these kinds of things. In a similar vein,
Gomer must have gotten a quick education in car fixin' as well. Mebbe
out of that Learn-A-Month magazine, or whatever it was that Barney took.

In episode #79 - Man in a Hurry - Gomer can only determine that the
car might perhaps need a little more gas (cause sometimes when
she says F - she's really E, ya know) and the only person in town who
could possibly fix the car besides Wally is Goober.

In episode 85 - The Great Filling Station Robbery - Gomer is
surprised that the carburetor Ange wants installed goes on
the engine, and he needs a local kid to make the repairs while
Wally is gone.

Episode 90 - Barney's First Car - we see that
Gomer is along for the ride when Lesch's Lemon
breaks down on ole Barn, but Gomer doesn't seem to be much
of a mechanic or have a clue as to how to fix the dang thing.
(then again, it could have been the car-sickness kicking in)

However, by Episode 101, Gomer the Houseguest, Wally fires
Gomer from the gas station, and folks are lining up at
his temporary residence with Andy to have their cars
repaired at all hours of the day and night. Heck, Gome
can now diagnose a lean idle mixture at 40 paces, and do
a brake job, fix suspension problems and I-don't-know-
what-all. He's so good that Wally is forced to hire him back

Hmmm, must have been a temporary thing, cuz next episode,
Number 102, Black Day for Mayberry, Gomer is so incompetent
that he can't find the gas tank on the armored car and pokes
the gas nozzle into the gun port and gets a couple gallons on
Barney

Ok, Ok, - I could go on awhile longer, but it's time to
"Do a good day's work and act like somebody"
