His full name was Harold John Smith. I haven't seen the "Leave it to
Beaver" episode you mentioned, but it sounds like a funny one. I've never
seen him billed as anything other than Hal Smith.

I was watching an episode of the old Maverick series on TV Land
recently, and who should stroll into the saloon but Barney's bloodhound
Blue (aka Sam, Floyd's dog.) Also present in the scene was Wally from
the service station playing the bartender.....Al Becker

"He's working."

Does anyone have information on where I could obtain an artist print of the
desk of Andy Griffith. I have seen them previously in Mt. Airy at the
Playhouse, but did not buy one. If anyone as any ideas please e-mail me
directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Attn: Scott Boyd Thank you

I just saw an E True Hollywood Story about our Gomer. It was really a good
feature. It told about his growing up, about how Andy Griffith- yes, old
grumpy Andy - found him and made the producer give him the Gomer part, even
though he had someone else in mind. It even brought up the rumor that spread
about Jim Neighbors' "marriage" to Rock Hudson. I hate to admit it, but for
years I kind of believed it. The feature told how it devastated Jim, and how
Rock Hudson even stood up for him and denied the whole story. It showed
clips of him in his Las Vegas act, and told how Carol Burnett saved his life.
If they run it again, try and watch it - it was really uplifting. And know
what? I don't believe Andy is a grumpy old man, and I don't believe that
viscious story about Jim. Shazam!

Hope I'm doing this right. I don't want to appear pushy or anything.
 Anyway, here it goes....

I love yor trivia questions and I think I have a good one. Even you folks
that have all the tapes might find this one challenging. On the "Citizen's
Arrest" episode, what Month, Day and Year did Barney incarcerate himself?
"Go on, take a think under there!"

What is making all the 20's appear. Is it my computer?
>>>

I too have noticed that once in a while, a message in the Digest has lots of
extra characters in it that make it difficult to read (for example, at the
end of every line the characters "=20" appear). Very likely, what has
happened is that the person who sent the message has his/her email program
set up for HTML instead of plain text. Messages sent to the WBMUTBB Digest
(and any other mailing list of this type) work best in plain text.

Most email programs should have a setting to correct this. I use Outlook
Express - in this particular program, when typing a message, you can click
"Format", then you can choose either "rich text HTML" or "plain text."

So, if you send a message to the Digest and then when you read the Digest
you see that your message is filled with strange characters that you didn't
type, that's probably what happened.

It's me; it's me; it's Martha T!

Thanks, ya'll, for the warm welcome. I received my second newsletter
today, and I so much enjoy the Mayberry talk. My husband is (don't tell
anyone) not a fan, and he can not understand how I watch the same shows
over and over and am still overcome with side-splitting laughter, even
if I know the lines word for word. It's nice to communicate with others
who appreciate the funnier things in life. Oh, yeah! The coach who
encouraged Opie that he could play sports and the piano was an African
American, but I don't know his name. He's the only one I recall. Thanks
again, and lots of luck to you and yours.

You obviously haven't seen the hilarious episode in which Gomer eats Welsh
Rarebit. It causes him to sleepwalk, and during his somnambulating, he
really lets the sarge have it!

YES I THOUGHT THE EPISODES WHERE GOMER SHOWS SOME BACKBONE WAS A WELCOME
CHANGE TO SHOW HIS STRENGTH! NOW IF ONLY DARREN STEVENS WOULD DO THE SAME
WITH HIS BOSS LARRY TATE INSTEAD OF ORDERING HIM AROUND ALL THE TIME!!
SOMETIMES COMPLIANCE TO OVERBEARANCE AS SHOWN ON BEWITCHED AND THE MEEKNESS
OF DARREN TOWARDS HIS BOSS IS A LITTLE TOO HARD TO BELIEVE! AFTER ALL SOME
OF US LIKE TO PRETEND THAT SOME FANTASY CAN BE REALITY WITH A GOOD
IMAGINATION!! IT'S ESCAPISM FROM THE DAILY DRUDGE OF WORK ETC THAT MAKES
LIFE SWEETER! KEITH

My guess is that the "J" stands for either Milton or Oliver.

Thanks for the post about the E! True Hollywood Story. I just copied the
following from the E! web site. I'm going to assume that these are Eastern
times listed. I'll be tuning in!

Hellooooo Dolllll,
I woke up about 5 am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I turned
on MSNBC to listen to Headliners & Legends. What to my surprise was on but
a whole hour dedicated to the entore TAGS show. They are doing classic TV
shows this week, so I am sure this on will show up at another, more decent
time to watch it. I was still foggy, and drifting in and out of sleep once
I turned on the set, but they were mentioning specific episodes at one
point, namely about Opie and the birds, and the kerosene pickle episode.
They said something about the subtle humor in the pickle episode. Like I
said I was still half in and out of sleep.

I heard Andy and Barneys voices in interview segments and Gomer saying
Shazam about something.

If anyone know what time and day they are going to be on during prime time
this week, please let me know, or post it to the digest.
Thanks a lot,
Fun Girl

I watched a old Clint Eastwood movie one of the cowboy ones and the girl who
played Millie in Mayberry RFD was in it. She played a prostitute. Kind of a
100% opposite of Mayberry.
By the way I'm new to the group. I love it. I have watched TAGS for
faithfully for 11 yrs now. I love the way life was there in Mayberry. Alot
of times I wish life could be like that here now.
