He was also in "Scrooged" with Bill Murray. He was a ghost that kinda
followed Bill Murrays character around. Pretty good movie too. All heart
warmin and such.

Hey To All,
I just needed to throw my two cents in to Opie's bank and hope I'm not
stepping on toes or breaking any of Allan's rules.

I gotta say I get kind of queasy reading and discussing how someone may have
a negative demeanor. It seems like that could be hurtful if that person was
to be reading about themselves. One can be timid, quiet and shy construing
to someone that they don't know as being grumpy or as such and the truth
could be more of the opposite. One could be having a bad day and someone
see it in action with that person having the bad day as being grumpy,
aggressive or of a negative demeanor. One in a hurry and on a time schedule
with people helping to direct them to the affair or place they need to be on
time could be construsted as being grumpy, hateful or of a negative demeanor.

Seems to me no one has a perfect demeanor and maybe the negatives shouldn't
be as expounded upon. I like to accentuate my fellow person's positive
attributes. It makes for nicer reading & discussion and could be less
hurtful is that person was to be reading or discussing too.

Guess I will mosey back to my pickle stash,
Sandi

Hi All,

Just wanted to share a little something . My cousin was a limo driver in the
Napa Valley a few years back and had the pleasure of driving Andy Griffith
from the airport to his hotel. He said Andy was the friendliest and nicest
client he'd ever had and he gave my cousin a huge tip to boot! I've always
suspected this was the case, but it sure was nice to hear.

Just caught a Disney Channel original movie called "Quints" in which Don
Knotts played the role of a state governor. It's great to see him popping up
in roles like this. Who would have thought ... Barney's gone from ticketing
the governor's limo to playing the governor himself. Bless his heart!

You obviously haven't seen the hilarious episode in which Gomer eats Welsh
Rarebit. It causes him to sleepwalk, and during his somnambulating, he
really lets the sarge have it!

For all those attending MD 2000. Do you have x-tra photos from past Mayberry
Days that you don't know what to do with? Please bring them to MD for a
photo table. There will be a table someplace, watch for details, for
pictures from MD. Then, anyone that would like some can take the ones they
want. How many times have you missed a picture because you ran out of film
or the battery was dead. This will be a good way to help your fellow friends
recapture some of those moments and get your own pictures straightened up (if
you are like me and don't have them all organized). See ya in Mt. Airy!

When the courthouse loafing crowd unhooked Barney's sidecar from the
"sickle", when he pulled away and the whole crowd laughed, there was a black
in the crowd. But remember, this was a small town in the early 60's. That's
the way it was!

I really liked Todd's under-the-bucket thoughts about how Gomer changed
from TAGS to GP-USMC. Gomer's entry into the Marines really was a test,
just like his daddy said. Those of you who followed his show know how he
really struggled in the beginning but how he seemed to turn himself
around when he realized he was going to be the only one in his platoon
who didn't pass his PFC exam. Gomer didn't want to let his daddy OR Sgt
Carter down. He buckled down and really showed everyone. I think his
speech change reflected his continuing education in the service; he
began carrying himself more upright and proud...another benefit of his
hitch in the Marines. Gomer also found confidence in the
service...enough confidence to court the lovely Luanne Poovey! But Gomer
always remembered his roots... everyday he went out and acted like
someone!!!!!!

Subject: Otis sighting

I just saw an episode of "Leave It To Beaver" where our very own Otis
Campbell (Hal Smith) played a restaurant manager. He offered to swap the
Beaver's brussel sprouts with another vegetable, but his parents wouldn't
hear of it. He had on a nice suit and tie and was even sober (but I
expect he'll get over it). Just curious if anyone else has seen that.
Also noteworthy was that in the credits he was billed "Hal J. Smith". I
don't remember ever seeing his middle initial before. Anyone know what
the "J" stands for?

African Americans on TAGS

There is an African American on TAGS other than the
two already mentioned. In "Barney's Sidecar" episode,
there was an African American on the sidewalk laughing
with the old "Wisenheimers" after they unhitched the
sidecar, leaving Andy sitting there.

What about the episode when Opie had to choose between piano lessons and
football? There was a famous football player who was helping to coach the boys
and was living in Mayberry after his football career. Wasn't he African
American?

I am so glad to see this! I love Ernest T., almost as much as he loves his
darlin' Romeena. I was able to tape the episode yesterday about Malcolm
Merriweather and Ernest fighting over the crossing guard job. Boy, those tents
and lanterns cost a lot! $12! I did notice that Andy wouldn't pay Ernest T.
more
than $5 since he was throwing rocks. It wouldn't have made for a very good
show,
but if I was Andy, I'd have paid him $12 just to get him to go away!!!
