what grade did earnest t. go into when he went to school to get his diploma?

It was the fifth grade, making him just slightly less educated than Jethro

That would make more sense. I heard Mel Blanc was sidelined briefly in 1961
as the result of an auto accident and someone else had to do Barney. Could
that have been Hal Smith?

I've got the "Squad car Wallpaper" on my computer, but I can't read what
the sign says on the window just above the tail-end of the car. "Bunn"
something.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Chip

Howdy everyone!

Thanks to everyone that has shared info. on all the cartoon voices
done by Hal Smith over the years. He was very talented! The one that
was a real surprise to me was Barney Rubble. I knew Mel Blanc did
Barney Rubble, but I wasn't aware that Hal did it first.

Most of you probably know abou this, but the Internet Movie Database
is a great place to see all of what Hal did. Here's the URL:
http://us.imdb.com/Name?Smith,+Hal

Take care,
Alan

Hey, yea i love that pickle episode, I believe Barney called those "them
kerosine cucumbers" What a hoot!

Also on Andy's hat in that episode, the only time i saw him wear it was in
that episode where that farmer's wife had a baby and Barney was suspicious he
was a spy or a marijuana grower. He wore it to the farm when the farmer
called him and it was raining. It had a rain bonnet on it. Hope that helps!,

good day to you and yours, Lucy

Hello Friends, Does anyone know anything about a book written by Andy's late
son who I believe was known as Sam even though he was a Jr.? I think it was
called, "I'm not Opie" or something like that. Has anyone read it or heard
anything about it? Thanks, Maria

"The Pickle Story". It was written by our beloved Harvey Bullock. The episode
# is 43. It's a dandy!!! Crystal M. in AL

The answer to the Day, Month and Year Barney incarcerated himself is:

This is how I got it. Some assumptions are involved though.

(1) The morning after Barney incarcerated himself, he crossed out (X) the
11 on his calendar. That calendar did not have any other text (Month, Day,
Year). (2) The 11th was in the middle of the week and assuming it was a
standard calendar it must have been a Wednesday. (3) Then, when Otis
incarcerated himself, there was a calendar on his wall. The Month was
fuzzy but it appeared to start with a "J" and also had only four letters.
Well, there are only 2 months in the year with four letters and they both
begin with "J".....June and July. That calendar had 31 days and July has
31 days, June does not. (4) Again assuming the time period was between
1960 and 1965, ...the 11th of July fell on a Wednesday in 1963.

The answer (as far as I can tell): Wednesday, July 11, 1963.... Case
Closed!

Seems Andy's mind on what month it was in that episode was, well,
elsewhere.

I love every aspect of the digest and look forward to reading every day and
one of my favorite things about it is the fact that I learn about upcoming
events and shows. I just want to take a minute and thank everyone that takes
the time to write in and make us aware so we can set our VCR's! I caught
Andy of Mayberry on E! the other night (b/c of the person that wrote in) and
really enjoyed it. I saw some clips I had not seen before (even our own Jim
Clark had some segments).

I wanted to let everyone know that I saw today on MSNBC's website that
Headliners & Legends w/ Matt Lauer will be showing Don Knotts on Monday,
August 28 at 10:00pm(est) and Tuesday, August 29 at 4:00am(est). Also, Jim
Nabors will be on Tuesday, August 29 at 10:00pm(est).

I look forward to seeing everyone at Mayberry Days and the reunion in
Alabama. Is there going to be a meeting place at any time for the WBMUTBB to
get together and get to know each other?

I really LOOOOVE TAGS. But, even though Andy and Barney are great, I've
always thought that the honest to gosh real star of the show was the town.
You never saw anyone that looked out of place. From the old cars to the
ladies hats. From kids being secure enough to go anywhere to everybody
knowing everbody else. Mayberry was a true star!!

I don't know about the speaking part, but when Jiminy Crickett sang "When You
Wish Upon a Star"' the voice was supplied by Cliff Edwards. He was also
called Ukelele Ike. He also sang "Singing In The Rain" which became the theme
song of MGM movie studios. I'd heard that Hal Smith was the voice of Barney
Rubble!

Subject: Ode to my Gomer

Now with apologies to my beloved Mr. Darling, I do have to confess to an
awful lot of love for Gomer. I often wonder what could have happen between
us in that there dime store if a certain Miss LuAnne Poovey hadn't wormed
her way into his life what with her blonde beauty and
her throaty rendering of
"That Old Black Magic" that seems to drive men wild and all. I never stood a
fair chance after that. Me and Lydia remain a little bitter to this day, but
we can forgive the fact she is more blessed in many areas
than we were. We don't like it, but we can be gracious about it.
But I have to respectfully disagree about my Gomer ever being surly.
Spirited, on a few occasions, maybe; but surly, never. He is the sweetheart
of Mayberry!

My favorite spirited encounter he ever had with Barney was when Barney had
everyone contribute to Andy and Helen's engagement party; they fixed up
Andy's bedroom and threw the couple a surprise party only to find out Barney
had messed up the whole thing, of course. Remember what Gomer said to
Barney? "What a dumb trick. Nice party, but what a dumb trick. Barney, don't
you ever call me dumb again!" I loved it! Because, let's face it, lots of
times Barney was a little too frank and hard with Gomer, as in "Gomer, get
down there with them spiders." Let HIM get down there with them spiders!
Laura Lee Hobbs, dime store clerk (who shared her secrets with Gomer and
ended up losing him anyway) &
gold truck watcher extraordinare, but who lost another man to Aunt Bee
WHY?
(It's true I can get a little mean, but I more than make up for it by having
all my teeth)
