TO: The person who wrote about TAGS version of the song:Leaning on the
Everlasting
Arms: Many people, including myself, remember that song sung the old-fashioned
way, where there are people (DURING THE CHORUS) singing the words "Leaning
on Jesus"...in the background while others sing the straight lines
"Leaning...leaning.....etc.
The "old shaped notes style" and Stamps-Baxter versions always seemed to have
people sing "other words", kinda, in the background during the choruses. I grew
up hearing them done that way. I can still almost hear my dearly departed Papaw
singing "Leaning on Jesus, Leaning on Jesus" on the chorus. WOW ! I just
enjoyed
a memory. Thanks TAGS !

Consider this...
The streets at that time were originally built for horses, not cars, so they
were extremely narrow and people still parked on both sides. They weren't
like the wide streets that we're used to. On a street that narrow, it would
be dangerous for a person to open a driver's side door into the traffic with
cars going by so close.
Most cars built back then were equipped with a flat bench seat that was easy
for people to slide across, so for safety's sake, it was just as easy to do
that as to go into the street.

I think it has more to do with the law being that you are supposed to get in
and out on the curb side of the car and not the street side. There were
times, if you recall, that they did get in on all sides.

Congratulations to Rafe Hollister and the soon-to-be bride of Mayberry's
favorite crooner! What a wonderful honeymoon! Don't invite Ernest T. to
the wedding - he has been known to throw rocks instead of rice! (I think
he's still a little bitter about ROMEENA!)
Lots of luck to you and yours.

Who owned the "market" in Mayberry? Was It "ol' man Foley....or was it
"Martinelli?" Could there have been two markets? And who was
Harry...the guy that saw Judd take a piece of "free fruit?" (We'll make
it good!)
These are highly existential questions that keep me ponderin' the whole
night through!

HEY FOLKS! I WAS WONDERING IF THERE ARE ANY VIDEOTAPES OF THE OLD STEVE
ALLEN SHOWS FROM 1956-1961 WHICH ,FEATURED DON KNOTTS IN THEM, AVAILABLE
FOR SALE ANYWHERE? I CHECKED AMAZON.COM AND HAD NO LUCK. THEY MAY NOT HAVE
BEEN RELEASED ON VIDEO YET BUT I SURE WOULD LOVE TO GET THEM ON TAPE BECAUSE
THE CLIPS I'VE SEEN ON DON DOING HIS NERVOUS CHARACTER ARE HILARIOUS! MY
MOTHER DID FIND SOMETHING VERY INTERESTING IN A K-MART THE OTHER WEEK. SHE
IS A BIG ELVIS FAN (AS WELL AS ANDY FAN) AND SHE BOUGHT A TAPE THERE WHICH
WAS TITLED "ELVIS: KING OF ENTERTAINMENT",HIS LIFE! HIS TIMES! HIS CAREER!
IN IT WAS A SKIT FROM THE STEVE ALLEN SHOW IN 1956 WHICH FEATURED STEVE
ALLEN,IMOGENE COCA,ELVIS AND NONE OTHER THAN ANDY GRIFFITH!! IT WAS A
WESTERN SKIT AND WAS VERY FUNNY. IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN I THINK THIS WAS A
COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE ANDY BECAME FAMOUS WITH HIS "WHAT IT IS,IS FOOTBALL"
SKIT. CONFEDERATE RAILROAD WOULD LOVE THIS SEGMENT!(SINCE THEY MADE THE SONG
"ELVIS AND ANDY.") THE FOOTAGE HAD NOT BEEN RESTORED AND IT LOOKS VERY OLD
BUT IT IS STILL GREAT TO SEE. IT IS PUT OUT BY "GOODTIMES HOME VIDEO" AND
RUNS APPROXIMATELY 93 MINUTES. WE ALSO WANT TO SAY WE'RE
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING ALL OF OUR MAYBERRY FRIENDS AT "MAYBERRY DAYS" IN
SEPTEMBER! IT'S BIG!

I hope you have many years of happiness. With a Mayberry background of
people loving & caring for each other y'all should have a wonderful
marraige.
I too enjoyed the MSNBC bio on Don Knotts. I missed tapng the first part
on his childhood, but taped most of it. Also taped Face In The Crowd,
which was on in the wee hours of the morning on AMC one day. It is a
much differnt character than our beloved Andy of Mayberry.

I read in an article that Andy had expressed he was tired of the grind of
putting out a show every week and was going to quit after 5 seasons. Don
didn't want to work without Andy (if the kept the show going) so looked
around and was offered a seven picture movie deal. Then when he'd already
signed the contract, he found out that Andy was staying, but it was too late.
Allen and Paul, is this the way it was?

sure and don't let a black rider on a white horse ride north to south in
front of you!

I missed Don's MSNBC show and saw the last half of Jim's twice.
I could just kick myself. I know the group is good about pointing
these shows out, but I would appreciate the extra effort. I will of
course keep my eyes on the lookout too. Thanks

Even Parnell Rigsby, over in Bannertown, got out of his pickup truck on
the passenger side when the camera was way in front of him and it was on
a deserted country road. Go figure!

Subject: Who kissed Barney?
Recently I watched an episode where Barney and Thelma Lou made up after
am little spat. As in several other episodes like this Barney had
lipstick prints all over his face. Since I did some modeling many moons
ago I know a little about make-up. Now Thelma Lou's lipstick usually
is'nt smeared so I got under my bucket and started thinking. It would be
easier and faster for someone wearing lipstick to give Barney a
little(or alot) kissy face than for the make-up artist to try to paint
those lip prints on his face.
Ya'll wanted difficult trivia questions and this one could be a rel gem!
Did a make-up artist paint Barney's face or did some lucky lady get to
give Barney all that good sugar prior to those scenes? We all know what
a "ladies man 'Creampuff' was.
Did the make-up artist do it or am I right? If so, who kissed Barney?
Ya'll put your buckets on and give me a Mayberry answer! All my love to
you and yours!

Subject: gettin' in/out of cars through same door question:answered
This fandamonium week-end is great!!! While watching the Ellie -the pharmacist-
comes- to -town -show, the ANSWER to the through-one-car-door-question was
shown,
clear as a bell; back then, cars had BENCH-seats (as my hubby calls them), and
it would be e a s y to just slide on over !! Nowadays, there are bucket seats,
form-fitting-seats, arm-rests,and a handful of other things between where the
driver and the passenger sit. Back seats are almost that bad. It's rough trying
to get in on one side of the car and ending up on the other. I KNOW that for
a fact, because my driver's door was pinned shut by a big truck one day at
the postoffice. While crawling over arm rests and other "things" the scenes
from Mayberry flashed through my mind. "Boy hidee", I thought, "wouldn't it
be nice to have one of those mayberry cars right now, where I could just slide
on over to the steering wheel"!! Another time I think about mayberry cars and
simply sliding "effortlessly" across bench seats is when I am trying to get
out of my car on a busy street with car after car flying past my door as I try
to open it without somebody's front bumper ripping my door off as I get
out!!!Don't
ya just love the simplicity of mayberry? Livin' was easy!!!

Subject: Who's maid was it?
I just got finished watching TV Land's episode of the Andy Griffith Show, the
one where the Hollywood film director is there looking over the town for the
filming of an upcoming movie. Andy and Barney are in the cell talking about a
bus trip a citizen of Mayberry went on to Hollywood to see the stars homes.
Barney mentioned that the bus stopped in front of Gary Coopers house, the
maid walked out and told them to get off the lawn etc...anyway, did I heard
right when Barney said that he saw "Andy Griffith's" maid instead of saying
Gary Cooper's maid? Did anyone catch that of were my ears playing tricks on
me?!?!
