I send my heartfelt congratulations to you and your bride-to-be. May
you have many years of happiness and wedded bliss. You just can't go
wrong hooking up with a gal who is willing to spend a portion of her
honeymoon at Mayberry Days!

Hey Folks,

I just wanted to let those of you who have contacted me know that most of
the useful information from the Mayberry R.F.D website will soon be back up
on the web. Allan has captured all of the information and will integrate
what is worth putting in to the TAGSRWC site (including the episode guide
with air dates.) I'm pleased to be able to get it back up for those of you
who are interested in the air dates, etc and I'm sure Allan will do a
fantastic job with it just as he does with the rest of the site and this
list.

On another (non-mayberry) related note. I'm a big Clemson fan, and this
year they're airing all Clemson games on a channel called 'College Sports
Southeast'. Unfortunately I don't get this channel, and I'm looking for
somebody in an area who does get it to tape a game for me occasionally when
it isn't shown locally. I'll cover all tape, postage costs, etc for
anybody who can help me out. Or if you like we could trade TAGS or RFD
episodes, whatever you want. If anybody out there gets this channel and
wouldn't mind helping please contact me.

I just wanted to say that I have also noticed the fact that they film from
one side of the vehicle. Something else I noticed was in the first episode
where Aunt Bee is replacing Rose. When Andy was taking her bags to the truck
when she decides to leave..who was driving the truck? I thought I saw someone
sitting in the driver's seat but my husband says there was no one sitting
there. Got me to thankin! I wanted to say too that another episode where
rain is involved would be the one where Andy delivers the baby on the farm
that was named after him. Seems like it was a stormy night there. To Doug and
Stacey "Congratulations". I think it is neat that you two met in the chat
room. I wish you many happy mayberry days to come!!!

Lots of luck to you and yours, Jenny E.

Hi Friends,

1) I too would like to thank Allan for all he does. I've been a member less
than a year and have gotten great enjoyment from reading the digest. I never
knew so many people enjoyed the show as much as I do.

2) Congratulations Doug and Stacey on your upcoming wedding.

This is my first reply to this wonderful site and what appear to be
really nice folks. just want to say that there is a town near here that
used to be just like Mayberry but now it has changed so that it's no
longer a place I'd like to live in. I grew up there and now find it hard
to believe that we could go to sleep outside of the house and feel as
safe as if we were snug in our own beds! And if we got in trouble by
going on a big crime spree such as raiding a farmers apple tree or corn
field, if he didn't give us heck, our folks sure did.But it's sure nice
to find out that there are still folks out there who are Mayberry
Harted.
May God bless you all, and Lord help this world when we are all gone!
Thank for listenin'.

Chameleon and a Clown Magically yours.

How about when Sam was farming at night and it stormed? Even though Nat
Pike liked lightning, it sure was spooky trying to deliver a baby while
the sky raged on and on.

I think that "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" may have just been another
version of the song, since TAGS didn't seem to have a problem showing church
scenes, etc. But I never have heard it sung that way except on TAGS.

And a comment on getting in cars. Would it have something to do with not
walking around the car due to camera placement or timing of the scene? I think
they didn't want to put someone too close to the camera or have them taking the
time to walk around the car. But I've noticed that they did that, also, and
wondered about it. Sometimes, if I recall correctly, they were parked next to
a pole or something and had to get in the same side because they couldn't open
one door.

Seems like I recall another "rainy-episode." The time when Opie wanted
to go out in the yard and put a pennt down in hopes that it would struck
by lightening. Can't remember which one that was....but I do remember
Andy giving him a penny for the storm.

That would be the one-camera strategy. Most of the time they just had one
camera for filming so to get the car scene in one shot, they used the same
door. Good thing they didn't have bucket seats!

You also forgot "Quiet Sam"...Wasn't there quite a storm brewin' when Andy
was out at Sam's
getting ready to delivery that Baby. What it never did in Mayberry was
snow.

Congratulations to Rafe and the future Misses, I can't believe Barney didn't
spill the beans
before you were ready. Are you going to sing to 'er Acapella at the
wedding? A-capel-la
A-capel-la now lets see how does that go?

Didn't it rain in the episode where Andy delivers the baby that was

I'm no Leonard Blush, but as happens with many songs, the "Leaning on Jesus"
alternate harmony line that was referred to is just that: an alternate line.
The Darlin's chose to sing a different alternate line "Leaning on the arms,
Leaning on the arms..." One's just as valid as the other, but singing them
both would have just turned the song into a big moulage.

All a God's chillen gotta uvula. Hallelujah.

Subject: one more note on African-Americans on TAGS

This question/ discussion runs through a couple times a year, but this time
noone mentioned the scene (at least 1) that includes an African American
lady. When Barney inadvertently wrestles a crook to the ground (starts out
writing him a ticket) there is a nicely
dressed lady in the crowd scene.
Its probably better that minorities were used sparingly in that era, rather
than being used in stereo-typical roles. If you notice the use of
Asian-Americans was as a Karate Instructor (The Bully), and two Chinese
Restaurant workers (Aunt Bee's Restaurant).
but an Englishter (Malcom) as a Housekeeper, now that's diversifying--or
is it obtuse?

These three little items have been rattling around in my head, so to clear
out more space, I'll jot them down here....

- --I saw an Orkin (pest control) commercial recently, and the final line was
"Call the Man!" So, perhaps one of those creative Madison Ave. types is a
TAGS fan!
- --Last night, I caught part of the movie "Dave" (where Kevin Kline plays an
"imposter" President), and good ol' Parley Baer (Mayor Stoner) was in it,
either as a cabinet member or Congressman! (He sure moved up the ranks of
public service!)
- --I caught just a few moments of Jim Nabors on Good Morning America earlier
this week (not sure of the context...Diane Sawyer was chatting with Jim and
David Hartman). Anyway, he said his favorite hymn was "What a Friend We
Have a Jesus" and they even showed a clip of him singing it at the Grand Ol'
Opry recently! Jim said it was his first performance at the Opry in a very
long time.

That's all from here.
