When it was over, I got that sinking feeling in my stomach, you know how it feels when you have to go home and back to work after a wonderful week at the beach. Anyway, on Tuesday, back at work (I work in a medical office, a lot of people coming in and out), you wouldn't believe how many people said that watched Andy and Barney. It was like we were talking about a family reunion. People were calling, chatting about certain episodes, asking trivia. While people were in the waiting room, we were talking about the episodes, characterts, etc. I felt like I had an extra day added to Mayberry this week. p.s. I don't want Andy to call me "Diamond Jim", so I'll think I'll donate $2 to the Andy TV Station. Remember, "A wink's as good as a nod to a blind mule!" _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I just had to send off this quick message before my head hit the pillow when I read what Crystal wrote about her mother and how Mayberry helped her last days be brighter! Crystal, I think that you are absolutely right about Mayberry being the place we all need to escape to when things get rough. I have always turned to Mayberry to laugh and be stronger. When the TV goes off I am then more equipped to face what is coming at me and do so with a lighter heart. My kids and I sit and laugh a lot and we usually are quoting Barney or Earnest T. I have a new daughter-in-law and my next project is to sit her down and watch "Mountain Wedding," "Man in a Hurry" and "Mr. McVevee" (I know I spelled that wrong but you know what I am referring to.) I Thankyou all for your thoughts and insights on my very favorite world of Mayberry!!!!! Crystal, thanks again for sharing!!!!!!!! Goodnight!!!!!!!!!! During the first season when Barney meets Thelma Lou, he is in the courthouse rehearsing what he really wants to tell her " I mean it Thelma Lou, You're the Cats" . I have never heard that expression used before, was that used in the 50's ? and what era of american history was that popular? so long steve >>> I wasn't around during the '50s, but I have heard the expression "The Cat's Meow" used in a number of old films (but not recently). It simply means "you're the greatest." Barney was apparently abbreviating the saying by dropping the word "meow" from the end. As far as the era goes, the creators of TAGS always tried to make the show feel like the 1930s, even though it was produced in the 1960s. Even in 1960, the show had a great nostalgic quality, which to me is the biggest part of its charm. Therefore, a phrase used in a 1960 episode of TAGS could very likely have fallen out of public use decades before. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Sep 2000 09:32:11 -0400 From: Trisha Kern <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry Days Tickets I know this is a shot in the dark and a LATE one at that, but if anybody has extra tickets to any of the events at Mayberry Days this year or knows someone else who has extra tickets or tickets they can't use for one reason or another and is willing to sell them, please email me. I have a friend who is coming for the first time this year and missed out on getting tickets to the events. He says that he and his wife will be tickled pink just to BE there, (and he's right..it's enough just to be there and be a part of the whole weekend) but I thought it might be worth a try to ask on here for available tickets. The Mayberry Days t-shirt this year is absolutely the CATS! I can't wait to get one. Hope to see everybody there! I love the name Melynn as it is Sally Field's character's name in one of my favorite movies, 'Steel Magnolias'. She was a strong, noble and caring person...what a great name to start life with! Now dont you go feeding her blueberry pie and making your wife think Melynn is turning blue from lack of oxygen! I've got a question I'm sure someone can answer. Did the characters on TAGS have someone coaching them on their accents and inflections? I realize that Andy was from North Carolina so his accent was probably natural, but most of the other characters were from other diverse points on the globe. However, I am from western North Carolina myself, and I can say that most of the characters' accents would probably fit right in here without attracting much attention. One of the reasons I ask this question is that early on, Barney's accent seems a little contrived, but as the episodes go on, it seems to get more natural and realistic. Is this due to outside help or just the great acting abilities of Don Knotts. Hope someone can answer my question. But there has never been another show that has meant what this one has to me. The spirit, the attitude, the people, the situations and most of all the comedy helped get me through the hardest time of my life. So when I say I am an over-the-edge fan, I mean it in the best way and it comes from my heart>>>>>> Crystal, I don't think that you are nutsy. I know what you mean, and I also think the rest of us can agree with you. TAGS is something special and it will live on in the hearts of people just like you and me. I have that same feeling about TAGS. I mean where else can you go and let go of all your worries and be carefree like you can in Mayberry. I tell you there have been times when I have been down in the dumps, or just had a bad day, and I pop a tape of the show in my VCR and after watching the first five minutes of one show, I feel a hundred percent better. I don't know of any other show that can do that to me. So, you are not alone. And nutsy we may be, but ain't it fun. So, don't feel alone, you know there are others out there just like you.
