Sorry to disagree on this one, but I love my Doris Day movies almost as much as I do the AGS.....in "That Touch of Mink", Doris Day's character was named Kathy Timberlake, not Judy...Not sure I recall Cary Grant saying the name Judy in this film.... Ya'll have a great Mayberry Day. "Couldn't you just swear, Edward G. Robinson was richeer in 'is room?" Sandy in Saudi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I haven't seen it in the stores yet though. Does anyone have one yet or have seen one? >>> I just got my copy, and it's FANTASTIC! The book is entitled "Mayberry Memories: The Andy Griffith Show Photo Album," by Ken Beck and Jim Clark. It is hardbound with a dust jacket, which I would say qualifies it as a "coffee table book" (but it's not about coffee tables.) There are about 250 photos in the book, about 90% of which have never been published in any book before. This book will no doubt be available from Weaver's or The Bullet in the near future. If you can't wait that long, any large bookstore should be able to order it for you. The ISBN is 1-55853-830-5 and the publisher is Rutledge Hill Press. There is also a new 40th anniversary edition of Ken and Jim's "The Andy Griffith Show Book," another must-have for any Mayberry fan. It is basically the same as the earlier editions, but it does have additional photos that were not in the first version, and some trivia corrections here and there. This one is currently available from Weaver's or The Bullet. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2000 08:34:06 -0400 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: What the World Needs Now Amen. In most cases such as in the later episodes, there appears to be a sunlit backdrop of a two story structure with exterior balconies (possibly Weaver's department store) that unlike the outside scenes, is eerily inanimate and void of any pedestrians or traffic. This scene seems "frozen" - as if it were really some oversized photograph. At other times, the view of "across the street" appears totally different, presenting frontal views of small storefronts complete with striped awnings. Nowhere is this inconsistency more noticeable than in the episode "The Manicurist" where looking out from the window of Floyd's barbershop, you get two totally different views. Earlier in the episode we see a very still street scene, with the same two story structure prominently displayed. Later, looking out from the same window, nowhere is this large building to be found. Instead there is a view of stores with their rolled down awnings across the street, where the women of Mayberry are now standing at the curb to protest their husband's infatuation with the pretty young manicurist. If I had to guess as to the reason for this inconsistency (among others I'd noticed), I'd probably guess it would be because there were twin sets - one at the CBS studios, and the other on the outside lot some miles away? Any other trained noticers out there notice this and/or other TAGS inconsistencies, or am I the only one with this compelshun? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2000 12:45:20 -0400 From: Stephen Spignesi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry Memories Hi all, I just received my copy of Jim Clark and Ken Beck's latest book, MAYBERRY MEMORIES, and must tell you, it is absolutely beautiful and a wonderful addition to the library of books about our favorite show and favorite home town. I was honored to be invited to write something for the book and could not be prouder to have my contribution included. This one is truly a must-own for all Mayberrians. The photos are magnificent. That's because I recently added a page of sounds to the site and two of those sounds are from Mayberry regulars...one from Don Knotts and one from Jim Nabors. Speaking of Mayberrians on game shows, does anyone know of any others? I understand there was a black and white episode of "To Tell the Truth" in the early 1960s in which our beloved Goober, a then-unknown George Lindsey, was an impostor. Anyone ever seen that one? Has anyone > else ever come across it? What, if anything, does it mean? This is only my speculation, but I figured it's a way of calling someone a fish peddler, one who pushes his cart through the alleys hawking his wares. Obviously, it's meant as an insult, though in the time such peddlers were common, I'm sure there were many fine, upstanding citizens who made their living by going up alleys and hollering "Fish!" Wish TV Land would show some of the commercials Andy did for his show. >> The one and only sponsor for "The Andy Griffith Show" during its original run on CBS was always General Foods. Same deal with "Gomer Pyle" and "Mayberry". There are commercials still floating around for Jello Pudding, Post Toasties, Post Grape Nuts, Post Sugar Crisp and Sanka Coffee, featuring the TAGS cast. The commercial you mentioned with the horse, I think, was shot for the "Mr. McBeeVee" episode. Other products advertised on TAGS include Gaines Burgers and Birdseye Frozen Foods. I also have a tape somewhere with Gomer and Sergeant Carter plugging Maxwell House Coffee... As far as TV Land showing any of the commercials, I have asked them about it. They have shown a commercial with the Partridge Family for Kelloggs Rice Crispies, so it's not impossible...
