Therefore, it would only take one picture unless someone (Jimmy perhaps?) would show up to rewind it. I seem to recall that the string was a regular Rube Goldberg contraption, winding all over the station. Maybe that it why opening the door inward would trigger the shutter. Ok, you guys have forced me to pay closer attention to the subtle things that happen in the background! I was watching the episode on TV-Land the other evening where they are trying to catch a thief in Wally's Filling Station. I noticed a couple of things. First, when Barney rigged the camera, he was hooking up the line so that it would pull down on the shutter of the camera. However, when he hooked it to the door, it would have only worked had the door opened outward and pulled the string. It seems like the door to the filling station opens in so that it would put slack on the string. Second, why did only one picture show up on the film? It seems that every time the door was opened the camera would have gone off. Surely Barney wasn't the only person that came in the door that day? Did anyone else notice this or is there something in my eye? One picture only showed up on that roll of film because the camera was up on the shelf when it snapped Barney's picture. Back in those days, one had to do something manually to a camera to advance the roll of film for the next picture to be taken. Since the camera was up on the shelf and didn't come back down until Barney took it down, there was no one advancing the roll of film to the next frame. Cameras sure have come along ways since then.....why now they have auto advance of the film roll so that one is sure to get more than one picture to a roll!
